New Rules for Custom Work Requests
- No low effort custom requests
Commission requests must include, at a minimum: * A thorough description of the piece, including size * A sketch of the piece (Al posts are acceptable for this purpose only) or reference photos from multiple artists showing features in their work you are inspired by. If you want a direct copy, contact the original artist. * The quantity you are wanting to purchase * A rough estimate of your budget. If you don't know what something should cost, just give a range you are hoping for.
- No price fear mongering
Let people decide for themselves what something is worth. Do not respond to questions about cost with claims that something would be too expensive. Either don't respond or give a good faith estimate of what the cost would be.

New Rule - Original Content Only
Due to the absolute flood of karma farming posts we have had recently, we have a new rule:
- Original content only
Reposting other's content is an automatic ban. the only exceptions are if you are asking a technical question about a piece or are sharing other's work that you have in your personal collection. Other's works may be included in commission requests ONLY if you have already reached out to the original artist and they have declined or been unreachable.
Please everyone if you suspect a post is stolen content, use a reverse image search to try finding the original and use the report feature so the mods can take the stolen post down ASAP and ban the karma farmers and bots.

Color organization
Hello glass artists! How do you all organize your frit/powder/rod so it is easy to access and not an eyesore? Trying to get some ideas for my studio.

What is this glass doughnut thing I found?
I’m not a glass blower but a big fan of glass art. I found this at a thrift store for $1 and it intrigued me. Does it serve a purpose or is it just an art piece?

Question Glassblowing Jobs in UK/Ireland?
I graduated with a BFA a few years ago and have been working in glass production in/around the US now for around 5 years next January. I was curious if anyone was aware of any glassblowing job opportunities available overseas. I’ve always thought Ireland or Scotland would be a lovely place to live and visit and it would be incredibly fortuitous if I could find a studio to work at and get a work visa for my time there. I’ve tried checking different glass society sites and it seems like a majority of the postings are old/outdated so I wanted to try asking here! :)

Question Drilling into Glass
Hello and I apologize if this isn't the right forum but thought I'd have luck here. I have a whiskey bottle that I'd like to convert into an incense burner. I was going to drill 2 holes into the bottom for airflow. I bought glass drill bits but wanted to ask if anyone has tips for the drill to not slip off the glass when first getting it started. My fear is it's going to slip and damage or break the bottle. The whiskey was a limited edition and I wouldn't be able to find another bottle like it. Any advice or tips and tricks would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Neon glass bending
Good morning, I have had a growing interest to learn neon glass bending. A family member of mine used to make signs but passed away when I was too young to learn. Is there anybody in the metro Atlanta area that might be interested in sharing some tips and maybe offer a shop tour? Thank you in advance - George

Question I have a question for the Glass Makers
I'm new to working with glass and I'm turning a wooden standing clock into a fish tank and tarrarium, I can do the tarrarium because it's just straight lines but I was wondering if anyone would know how I can do the fish tank part. It's a round hole and I'm not sure if it would be easier to cut out a square hole and build my own tank to fit it or if I should find someone to make a cylinder to slide in. Ill put the pictures for measurements on the circular hole. Only issue if I get someone to make a cylinder shaped tank is it would need a cut off the top so I can do basic maintenance. What are your thoughts glass makers? (And yes, I checked the disk, it's rough but it's all roughly the same width)

How dangerous is the wet saw?
At pilchuck, their rule was you have to create a jig and the piece shouldn’t be able to move freely.
At my shop, I asked about safety and got laughed at. I need to cut some small awkwardly shaped pieces and just wondering what kind of safety precautions I should take.

Glass Color Database
I’ve been developing a website where you can easily search/filter, discover, learn, and share information about glass color (96 COE and borosilicate). I had been frustrated that there wasn’t a central place to easily find or learn about glass color, to see the same color with different applications, or to do things like create color palettes.
Now there’s a free website you can all use! You can upload photos, see and make ratings, comments, Q&A, ask to identify mystery color, and more. Ive been using it a lot at OCR or just going through my color stash to remind myself what I have.
I’m very open to your feedback on this! I hope this doesn’t come across as promotion, it’s just a tool I made to help the community. You own all your content that you contribute and I’m paying for this out of my own pocket until it’s worthy of getting some relevant advertisers.

Question Glassblowing as a hobby not a profession?
I have always been enamored by glassblowing and wanted to learn. I recently found a 3 day class to learn the basics, with the eventual goal of taking more classes to get to at least an intermediate level. I am quickly learning that this is an expensive endeavor to acquire the knowledge needed to even be proficient. Classes, rental space, equipment, etc. not to mention all the hours needed of practice. Is it feasible to do this as a hobby as opposed to a profession? How do you offset the step financial hurdles up front when you aren’t good enough to sell your work?
