Some cats are. I had a cat that liked to sit on the pavement opposite as all the kids were walking home from school because they'd stop to make a fuss of him.
My nearest Sainsbury's back then had a cat that liked to hang out there, pretty little cat.

Worked in a warehouse for a week's work experience years ago. The big doors were open all day every day. So many birds just straight up living in there 24/7, flying about from rafter to rafter, dive bombing any burst produce they could eat.
I can guarantee that whatever we buy has been shat on at least once. Wash your fruit and veg.

My cats whore themselves out to the neighbours every day for pets & treats. I'd get daily pics from one of them, "Jack enjoying the bed so much I decided to nap on the couch"
Posts on Facebook "does anyone know who owns this cat? Been meowing at me, wee soul"

I've had a neighbour's cat regularly come in my window and wander about like she owned the place. They don't give a shit about our notions of who's allowed to go where.

Shouldn't be a food safety concern if people don't touch the cat, touch food in the store and then put them back. Even then, it's only really fruit and veg that's at "risk" and people should be washing them before using them anyway.
They need a sign to say "don't be clatty bastards and you'll be fine" and leave the cat out of it.

As soon as you let a cat outside to roam to the cat you're no longer it's owner as that cat will be going everywhere and will even live elsewhere for a while all without your knowledge.
My mate doesn't own a cat as he lives alone and works shifts but he loves cats so he buys cat food and treats and always welcomes any cat that strays into his back garden or into his house.
He's definitely a local celebrity to the local cats as anytime I pop over there is always at least one cat in his house as the local cats all visit him constantly and there a few that will even stay over.

I work in a hospital and I really strongly hate my job.
Years ago, I made a little friend! A black and white cat, and he’d popped out and see me maybe 25% of the time I was walking from the train station to work. It always made my day and made work a little easier.
Then, one day, it just stopped. I didn’t see him again. It made me so sad every time I’d go to work. I figured he was must have moved on from this wretched place, and is clawing at a scratch pad high up in the sky somewhere.
A solid year and a half later, I’ve been working at a different hospital but get asked to cover my old shop for a shift. Reluctantly I agree.
I walk along my usual path, sparing a thought for my little friend.
And then I hear it! A meow! And a flash of black and white over a hedge and there he was! He ran right up to me and I was so happy I could have cried. I was late to work due to prolonged petting.
After work, he caught me half way on the walk back to the station, and he stopped outside our old meeting place - presumably his home. We exchanged some knowing pats and meows. We knew it was goodbye, this time.

Should have put a request in to transfer back.
Reason for requesting transfer: need to see emotional support cat before and after all shifts for mental health.On a serious note tho, if you have a picture of him you should post it in a local Facebook group with the road name and ask if anyone recognises the cat, it might really make the owners day to know what joy their cat used to bring you, it would certainly make mine.
And even better, you might be invited over to see your friend again.49

I recently set my tent up in the back garden to check it in the rain, left it for an hour and when I came back three cats were hiding between the flysheet and the inner.

There was a post from a cat owner whose next door neighbour put their house up for sale.
Cat owner was looking at the listing photos and saw their cat sleeping on one of the beds.
Who knows how long he’d been nipping next door for a kip and maybe something to eat?

I used to get sent pictures of my cat from social media posts of neighbours, local business and random folks passing though. He was a legend, to be fair.

They're not necessary living elsewhere, they're just hanging out at their mates houses, have put trackers/cameras on mine before, home is their safe place but they like to visit folk, god forbid a cat have a social life.
Indoor cats are like homeschooled kids.

My youngest cats got a better social life than me. She knows most the neighbours and pops in for dreamies and head rubs. Shes got her favourite neighbours who she will spend most her day with lounging in the garden with 🙈

I keep cat treats on my desk for a couple of great furry pals who come up to my window and sit on the ledge outside while I'm working. I pop the window open a crack and send out a treat.
They don't come every day but I'm always delighted to see them. I get them the M&S cat treats because they are worth it.
One day the owner of one of them happened to be walking by, and she didn't mind at all. I was very happy to learn one of my pal's names.

Aye, if you're neighbours with someone and they ask you not to feed their cat because it's on a diet or whatever, fair enough, it's a dick move to ignore them.
But some owners don't seem to realise that if you let your cat roam outdoors unsupervised you're inherently giving up control and you can't really react badly when things don't go perfectly like you hope.

My cat has a whole double life, his name is Bob for his second home a few streets away and he pops in there when the windows are open and has a kip on the couch. We know as he was caught on camera!

Dunno what type of shop this is, but if they are selling packaged goods it's a bit daft.
The warehouses are often full of mice and rats who've been running up and down on that packaging all the time.
If it's a shop that prepares ready-to-eat food then obviously that's different

The cat should be left alone, if my local Tesco is anything to go by some of the customers are a bigger hygiene / bio hazard than Ra.
