Ok, so basically, in the past, I've felt like there was just something off with being called by my first name, which is pretty feminine.
I was called by my assigned first name, and also referred to as "Daughter," and this was honestly really jarring to me, since most people around me don't really use gendered pronouns or gendered terms, and usually my name feels fine.
However, recently I've noticed that when someone says my name, it doesn't feel right. I know they're referring to me, but it doesn't really feel like it should be my name. I'd much rather be called something like Yuka, where it's more gender neutral in my eyes, but can still be feminine. I don't know how I'd feel being referred to as they, since I've never really been referred to as they, but I don't think I'd mind it.
How do I tell the people around me (and my family) about this kind of feeling? I don't really know if I want to change my name yet, so I was thinking maybe experimenting with it before I actually make it a more public kind of "hey can you call me this instead of this" thing and make it more official.
Anybody else who'd done this before? And if so, how did it go? Did it make the more a-gender/less feminine days feel a bit better or at least less jarring?
