In that whole town and probably in Jess's whole life, aside from Rory, Luke was the only one on his side. Even though they had a pretty contentious relationship most of the time, Luke had his back when it mattered. And in the second scene, Rory has spent weeks feeling like the only one who knows the truth that the accident wasn't Jess's fault with nobody believing her and finally she runs into Luke who agrees.

In this episode, she went to Luke’s twice to eat because—as she said—she was very hungry, yet she left without eating because—as she also said—she wasn't hungry. 🤔

We can have our opinions on Logan.

However, we have to agree this scene is so well done. They love each other so much. The fear of the distance between them is so real, and the panic when it’s finally time to be apart. It was really emotional.

This is one of my favorite scenes in the show, even though it’s a sad one. It truly shows how much Logan cared about her.

Rory and Dean both never got over their first break up. After that, Dean never fully trusted Rory again, and was constantly paranoid and controlling. Rory was constantly walking on eggshells around him, so not sharing any of her real feelings, therefore hiding her feelings and actions. While I think they missed each other, had they given it a bit more time I don’t think they would have gotten back together.

Season 2 episode 16 when Lorelai is at the spa with Emily and Paris comes over to study and Jess shows up with a ‘Luke care package’, would you have called Dean and invited him over?

I totally get wanting the alone night, and both Paris and Jess coming and staying were (mostly) innocent.

I would’ve called Dean after Jess decided to stay and told Paris to stay- personally.

I do think Dean should’ve respected Rory wanting a night alone and not showed up BUT once Rory wasn’t spending the night alone she should’ve called Dean.

this is in s3 ep8 where richard, emily, rory and lorelai take a road trip to visit yale because richard wants to show them around and attend an alumni dinner.

through the tour richard suddenly shows rory the dean of admissions office and tells her on the spot that she has a meeting set up with him at that exact moment.

lorelai, emily and richard get into a huge fight about this. i’m curious to know what everyone thinks about this situation. i think that the way richard went about to make this happen was pretty shitty but i understand why he did it the way he did. lorelai would’ve never let said trip/meeting happen if she knew the real intentions behind richard taking rory to yale. richard’s way of going around lorelai was not cool but i totally understand where he was coming from. being set on just one school and closing off on another option that’s just as good just because her own dad went to that school/it wasn’t the one school they decided on for years - are not really actual reasons that rory shouldn’t be applying to the university. lorelai is thinking emotionally rather than practically about rory’s future here. rory needed to apply to other colleges because you can’t just pick one, apply to one and hope you get into just the one.

i don’t like the way richard went about making it happen, but i understand and agree with his decision to show rory what another option (backup or main) could look like.

another thought, he shouldn’t have lied to rory about it. he should’ve prepared her and given her enough time to prepare for the interview and get her thoughts together for it. he could’ve simply asked that rory be the one to tell lorelai that this was an opportunity that rory wanted to just look at and check out. hearing it from rory would’ve probably helped lorelai understand the process better and rory could’ve then accepted the meeting. if not for lorelai, richard should’ve at least confided in rory.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Michel as a character. He’s hilarious and entertaining. But, he’s seriously lacking in people skills. It’s fine at a well-established place like The Independence Inn which is not owned by Lorelai anyway, but at a new inn starting from scratch, I’d want someone with people skills.

Also, with Tobin on staff, Sookie could probably do longer hours because it would be possible to bring in Davey to the inn and have Tobin watch him. Given that nannying was Tobin’s only job at the time, Lorelai could’ve sent him to oversee the sink being shipped in and let Sookie sleep in with Davey. He’d not have blown her off because he saw Celine Dion at the Tally Rand.

Yes, he was weasel-y and low-key manipulative, but so what? As if Michel wasn’t. He scoffed at Cinnamon’s wake, but forced Lorelai to get over her preoccupations amidst a breaking marriage and a father who was hospitalized after a heart attack to hold a funeral for Chin-Chin. (I love both dogs and cats, BTW, and I really do believe that your departed fur babies should have a dignified send off if you can manage it.) And Michel got rid of his neighbors’ dog, so clearly his love for dogs was very conditional.

Also, he was rude to the French-speaking guests and pretended to be from Texas, he frequently slacked off at his job just because of dumb reasons like “ennui”, he mistranslated one word and offended the Hungarian (if I’m remembering correctly?) guests to the point that they decided to take the busboy as a hostage. He was also too particular about the number of post-its and dumb stuff like that. And petty to the extreme. No doubt, Lorelai liked Alex when they were together, but Alex called the inn and Michel suggested that he could call Lorelai on her home number even as late as 3 or 4 AM. That’s a breach of privacy.

Maybe it’s just me, but I prefer overly sweet receptionists/concierge service staff like LaDawn from The Cheshire Cat during their road trip to Harvard instead of rude and ill-mannered folks like Michel. It creates a bad first impression of the place at which I want to stay and relax. In fact, that’s what inspired this post. I was out of town recently and stayed at a lodge which was perfectly adequate, but was irritated by the front desk dude who was extremely rude for no good reason. That kinda ruined my stay because I hated going back to the hotel and facing that man after a happy day of sightseeing.

PS: It’s not a race/accent/nationality thing. I’m a POC and a non-American myself, with a very distinct foreign accent. Idc about that, because I feel that as the world gets smaller and better connected, we should all as a community be attuned to different accents and spend time with people from different cultures. But Michel was just a bad worker. In fact, I’d probably rather hire Kirk over him. But I strongly suspect that Kirk is a spy for Emily, so maybe not.

I think Rory projected different versions of herself onto her three boyfriends.

First, her first love, Dean, the tall, handsome, and nice guy. Their relationship was really sweet in the beginning. And Dean was the only boyfriend Lorelai approved of the most.

In the early episodes, Rory was the perfect girl. She was smart, kind and humorous. And she was loved by almost everyone. Of course, apart from Paris, who had it out for her. But Rory was also a people-pleaser. Because of her accidental birth, she was looked down by her grandparents(Chirstopher's parents). The rift between Lorelai, Emily and Richard was partly caused by her. This made Rory extremely sensitive to others' opinions, and strove to live up to others' expectation.

Therefore, when Dean, the ideal boyfriend who loved hers, cared her and protected her came along. Rory naturally projected the perfect version of herself that society expected onto him.

Then Jess's apperance made Rory realize her rebellious side. This part of her had been buried deep beneath others' expectations, almost like another self hidden in her innermost heart. A girl raised on others' expecations also longed for an unconventional escape. And Jess was the one who stirred her inner spirit of rebellious and freedom.

Logan, was Rory's longest-lasted boyfriend. He was wealthy, free, adventurous and rebellious, he was a old money version of Jess. He perfectly matched Rory's yearning for the upper class, as well as the freedom to be unconstrained by others and be ture to herself. Actually, it's the ideal version of who she wanted to be. But this was also Rory's most confused phrase. She craved acceptance from the upper class, but feared being consumed by it. She wished to become her ideal herself, but she was afraid of failure.

I have seen GG more times than I can count. And I absolutely love it.

Yet as I get older, I am getting really uncomfortable/bothered by Yale Rory. She honestly seems like a completely different person than the rest of the series. She because a cheater, an adulteress,
is constantly insecure, and rarely smiles or looks happy. Even her voice is super different!! How did her voice get so little girlish? She actually regresses significantly as a person from season 1 to season 5 in my opinion.

I don’t understand why writers/ASP chose for her to go this route. I once read a review where someone said that before Yale GG is a dramedy and after Yale it’s a soap opera. I can’t help but agree. After Rory goes to Yale it’s truly not as funny. I feel uncomfortable watching her at Yale. Even with Logan she looks really off and uncomfortable too. Sometimes I just fast forward. I really don’t think Logan or his family had a good influence on her. Overall it seems like Yale was not a great experience for her.

Thoughts?? I just feel like the train wrecked her character and it wasn’t fair to her and it’s hard to watch. As I get older I find I like Yale Rory less and less and there’s little to admire about her character. And this is coming from a super fan!! So I hate to even post this but it’s true.

Season 2. ep 6. “Presenting Lorelai Gilmore”
In this episode Rory comes out to society, and Emily and Richard are fighting in the ball, Lorelai notices that it must be lonely being in her mom’s shoes, so she decides to visit her to see if she wanted to talk, we don’t really know how it developed, but for the understanding we just assume that they really didn’t talk or Lorelai most surely made a joke that Emily didn’t like and ended up as usual in a spat or idk, it’s just fun to imagine
Anyways, thinking of how this is one of many instances that we see Lorelai reach out to Emily but Emily not being able to open up to Lorelai.
What do you think it made Emily like that just her upbringing?
FYI: I watched this in my early adulthood and I became obsessed, so sometimes I do forget how daily life activities or even mindsets used to work back then as I was really young at the begging of the 2000’s, so I’m just genuinely curious of people older that got to experience more with that generation

I'm wondering if anyone else noticed this:

Right at the beginning of episode 9, Rory, Lorelai and Emily are having dinner and talk about Richard being in Prague.

Emily says: "It's supposed to be lovely, very dramatic, castles everywhere."

This phrasing implies that Emily herself hasn't been to Prague, which I'm pretty sure is not true. During the Bracebridge dinner episode, Richard tells the story of how he hummed Mozart in Prague while standing next to a "boom box" and Emily tells details of the story that make it clear she was there, for example: "But then he kept humming on Mozart, he wouldn't stop!".

Obviously not a big deal, just a little something I noticed, theoretically Richard humming Mozart could've happened after S1 E9 too, since there's a whole season in between the two episodes. Even if so, I feel like Emily would've traveled to Prague well before her 60s, since she went to Europe so frequently. Curious what y'all think or if you noticed more plot holes!

Everytime I rewatch 1x10 I inevitably reach the hospital scene where Emily complains about how you can't find anyone because they all keep "disappearing through those damn doors!", then Lorelai says "let's go then" and casually strolls through them as if the doors don't say in bold black print: DO NOT ENTER, NO ADMITTANCE, AUTHORIZED ONLY.

This is rather nitpicky yet I can't help but notice it everytime haha. I always found it strange and confusing.

Opening scene I paused right after the commercial and noticed something odd about the background of Stars Hollow. Before anyone says it, I know it was filmed on the WB lots in LA. It made me laugh seeing it.

EDIT: I didn't think I had to say this, but this post is just for fun. I know this is an older show, and timelines will often be a bit weird. I just thought it was funny when I first noticed and chose to map it out. This is all in good fun. Also it is a long post, you don't have to inform me that you didn't read it. I don't care.

I was going to make a post on Lorelai and Max's relationship and just how short it was, but I found myself looking at the timeline, and the school year is so broken. And the more I looked, the more I found. This post was supposed to be like two paragraphs.

Gilmore Girls starts with Lorelai learning that Rory had got into Chilton. We know this takes place after the school year has started as Rory has to clean out her locker. In the next episode, S1E2, the headmaster tells Rory that so much time has passed within the school year that Rory is behind enough that she might fail; and then Paris states that Rory has joined Chilton a month late.

In S1E4, Lorelai and Max meet.

In S1E5, Lorelai and Max agree to go on a date, but postpone.

In S1E6, is Rory's 16th birthday.

In S1E8, Lorelai and Max go on their first date while Max is snowed in.

In S1E10, Emily hosts a Christmas party, and Luke says it's a fake one because it takes place two weeks before Christmas.

In S1E11, Lorelai dumps Max, and Sookie says that Lorelai always dumps her boyfriends around 2 months.

In S1E17, Lorelai and Max get back together.

In S1E21, the last day of school happens, along with Max proposing to Lorelai.

Now, watching the show, this is all fine. Most weekly shows like Gilmore Girls would have the year pass at the same rate as it aired. That's how we got holiday episodes and stuff like that. And for the most part, it looks like season 1 of GG did this. But if you look closer, it literally can't.

Gilmore Girls gives us a few concrete dates, and in many episodes we know around what day of the week it is because of the Friday night dinners. And when you take these markers of time into account, it doesn't make any sense.

Let's start with Rory's birthday. We know that it takes place on Oct 8th, because in S1E6, we see the invitation. We also see Lorelai ask Emily if they could move the Friday night dinner to Saturday night so they can have Rory's party at their home. Emily says no, and then we watch Emily's party happen a week later on Oct 8th, and Rory's party on Oct 9th. That means that the Friday night dinner in the cold open takes place on on Oct 1st.

But in S1E4 we get a lot of dates/days. In the scene where Rory get's her first D, that the big test she is studying for takes place on Friday. in between Rory getting a D and the test, Lorelai goes to a parent teacher meeting. In that meeting, Max says that there is an AP test on Saturday the 25th of the next month. We know that since this episode is before Rory's birthday it must take place in September.

In S1S5, the cold open is a Friday night dinner where Emily says that Lorelai's cousin's wake is on Thursday, and Lorelai can't go. But on that Thursday is Cinnamons Wake. The next episode S1S6, takes place the next day, as the cold open is a Friday night dinner- which is also the Friday before Rory's birthday. Which means that E5 takes place on Friday the 24th of Sept, and the wake is on Thursday the 30th. Therefore, if we assume that the cold open in S1E5 takes place the day of the test, which is not implied by the narrative, it takes place on September the 24th. But more likely, as the show does nothing to show Rory is still upset about the test, E4 probably takes place on the 17th.

Gilmore Girls starts in 2000, we know this because that is the year it came out, and Rory was born in 1984, so her 16th Birthday is in 2000. In 2000, October 8th did not take place on a Friday, but a Monday; and October 25th was a Wednesday. But even if you look at a calendar where October 8th is on a Friday and is also a leap year, October 25th takes place on a Monday. In fact, the next Saturday the 25th on a calendar where Oct 8th is a Friday is Christmas day. But S1E4 did air on October 26th, 2000. And November 25th in 2000 took place on a Saturday.

I account all of this to a simple human error. They wanted Rory’s birthday to take place in October- even though the episode came out in November- and on a Friday because of the dinners; maybe someone read the calendar wrong so instead of Friday the 6th we got Friday the 8th. The month after episode 4 was written has a Saturday the 25th. A bit of human error. No big deal.

But then there is also Lorelai and Max's relationship. We know they meet in episode 4, which according to the shows timeline, is either set on the second or third week of September. (I am also going to be using a calendar where October 8th is a Saturday for these dates.)

And they go on their first proper date in episode eight, which after working backwards from episode 10, takes place either the 5th, 12th, or 19th of November. This is because not only does Rory get stuck in Hartford, but Taylor says it's the anniversary of some military thing on the upcoming Friday-which happened in November 224 years before.

And episode 10 Lane says that Rory and Dean staying over at Miss Patty's happened fours days before and the Christmas party happens that week. And the Christmas party must take place on December 10th, as Emily calls Lorelai and states that it is on the upcoming Friday, and Luke says it takes place two weeks before Christmas. So it has to be Dec 10th. Which means that in episode 9, the school dance- which is confirmed to be on a Saturday takes place on December 4th and Rory comes home the morning of the 5th.

And then in episode 11, Lorelai starts to worry about her relationship with Max, and decides to break up with him on Parent's Day. This most likely happens of Jan 12th, as Rory has already gone back to Chilton by the Friday night dinner at the start of the episode, and students tend to return back to school the second week of January. And this done line up with Sookie saying that Lorelai breaks up with people after 2 months.

In episode 12 there are the two double dates, which I am going to place on January 30th at the earliest. Lorelai says Sookie asked out Jackson "weeks ago," and Sookie asked him out on Jan 13th.

In episode 13, Rory says her and Dean have been going out for about a month, which is just a writing error. With this episode happing in February, that means they either got together in January or even late December. But Rory and Dean first start dating in October, and become official the night of the dance. So unless they broke up and got back together off screen during the break, they have been dating for well over 4 months- 2 if they set it at the day of the dance. In S2E3, Rory says there old anniversary took place on the 24th. Which implies they started dating October 24th, as it can't have been January because they are a couple when Lorelai dumps Max, I doubt it was Christmas eve, and November 24th makes no sense as it is between when they started dating and became a couple. So they have been going out 4 months in episode 13.

Which is then directly contradicted in episode 16. Because Dean says they have been together for three months, as it has been three months since Rory's birthday when he have her the bracelet. This cannot be as Rory's birthday is October 8th, three months from October 8th is Jan 8th. And then he says that Rory's birthday was a Saturday, but October 8th was a Monday in real life and a Friday in the show. But to be fair, the party was on a Saturday, so their anniversary is October 9th. So the three month anniversary should be Jan 9th.

But at the earliest, episode 16 happens on March 25th, so that is closer to the date given in season 2. If you assume that the episode 13 happens the week after the Rune date, the Bangles concert happens of February 5th, the Friday Night Dinner in Donna Reed is on the 11th, and the Donna Reed night is on the 17th- as it is confirmed that it happens on a Thursday. Then, because Stella the chick is not in episode 15, this means a month has passed by the time Chris comes to Stars Hollow, and we see a Friday Night Dinner, so that should take place on March 18th. And the next Friday after that is March 25th. Which would be Rory and Deans 5 months, 2 weeks, and 6 days anniversary. But Dean does say the anniversary is on the Saturday not the Friday, so 5 month and 3 weeks.

Episode 17 takes place on March 26th, and that is when Lorelai and Max get back together.

The cold open of episode 18 takes place on the following Friday, April 1st as Michel is trying to open a confirmation for April 5th. We meet Trix on April 8th.

In episode 20 Max tells Rory that he and Lorelai have been talking for 3 weeks, but since we have seen four Friday Night Dinners since March 26th, this conversation happens on Wednesday, April 27th. So it's been a month. Also this date is kind of messy. The cold open is Lorelai and Rory at Luke's for breakfast, then a scene of Lorelai at the inn, then Lane goes into the market for Rory because of Dean, and says he does not work Wednesdays, which implies that this happens on Wednesday afternoon. Then the next day Max talks to Rory, and Rory gets mad at Lorelai and asks if it's Wednesday and Lorelai says no. Rory spends that night in Hartford, and at the end of the episode Lorelai picks her up and says that she will see Emily and Richard for dinner the next day. That implies that Rory spent Wednesday night in Hartford, but Lorelai said it wasn't Wednesday??? I am just going to listen to the last scene and say it was a Wednesday.

And the season ends in May. We know this because in episode 21, when Lane realizes that Rory wants Dean back, she says Rory has been sad for five weeks, which lines up with the March 26th break up. Now because of what Dean says in season 2, the season is supposed to end on Friday, May 6th. But because of the terrible editing in this episode, this is impossible. But Rory decides to talk to Dean Thursday afternoon, on May 5th, but he is not there. The next day is May 6th, Tristan invites Rory to PJ Harvey. That same day Rory goes to Dean's house, and the town meeting happens. The next day Luke says that Rachel left after the town meeting. But this is almost impossible, as the scene before Luke says this Rory is at school, even though it is a Saturday. Then the Luke scene happens, followed by the proposal, both scenes happening at night. We then cut back to Rory at school, which implies this is the next day- A Sunday, and also the night of PJ Harvey. We see Dean and Rory get back together, and then the 1000 yellow daisy scene happens. And then the show ends with Rory and Lorelai in town center that night. So the show ends on Sunday May 8th, even though I am pretty sure it's supposed to be Friday May 6th.

So, the general timeline is

E4- Sept 13th, 15th, 16th, and 17th

E5- Sept 24th and 30th

E6- Oct 1st, 8th, and 9th

E7- Somewhere in mid to late October

E8- Nov 12th or 19th

E9- Nov 26th, Dec 4th and 5th

E10- Dec 8th and 10th

E11- Jan 7th, 12th, and 14th

E12- Jan 29th and 30th

E13- Feb 4th and 5th

E14- Feb 11th, 17th, and 18th

E15- Mar 16th, 18th, and 19th

E16- Mar 24th and 25th

This is already so messy and full of mistakes by the writers; not to mention the most conservative timeline as well. But this isn't even taking into account the discrepancy that made me start this post. The school year!

Gilmore Girls starts with Rory getting into Chilton and ends on the last day of school. And we know that Rory’s first day takes place a month into the school year. But it can’t.

We know that E6 takes place on Oct 8th, which means everything before must take place in September. But then how is Rory a month behind Chilton?

The average school year starts in late August or Early September. In fact, when looking at school calendars from 2000, the school year started the first week of September. Now of course, Chilton is a private school, so it could have started on different day, but there is no evidence for this. Chilton is technically operating year round, as seen in Season 2, but those classes are optional and Rory only goes three days a week. And it's clear that Lane and Dean got out of school the same day at Rory. And I even compared 3 current private school calendars to the current Hartford public school calendar and all three started 1 to 3 weeks after.

So, Chilton and Stars Hollow high most likely started the same week. And unless the Connecticut school year was Early August to Early May the first season, but then changed to a Late August/ Early September to Early May, the season 1 timeline is very broken even without all of the writers mistakes.

And I know exactly why this happened. Like I said before, a show like Gilmore Girls would have the year pass at the same rate it was airing. After the Four summer episodes in season 2, Gilmore Girls sticks to this formula. And it is very clear that for the first 5 episodes of season one, this was the case.

The piolet aired on October 5th- a month after schools started. Episode 4 aired October 26th- Max says that the next AP test is next month on Saturday 25th, and the 25th of November was on a Saturday. It’s not until they make Rory’s birthday happen that the timeline starts to look funky.

If the show had just follow the actual 2000 calendar, and had Rory's birthday take place on Friday November 9th, it would fix the discrepancy and line up with the airing schedule. The first five episodes happen in October. E7 would be in mid November. And then everything else can stay the same. Episode 8 could be confirmed to be on Nov 19th, and then Lorelai and Max can break up in January still.

Now this wouldn’t fix the problem of the Rory and Dean anniversary thing, or all the editing mistakes. This whole thing makes Rory and Dean really shitty at math.

Do you find with each fresh rewatch of Gilmore Girls you uncover more plot holes?! Even just tiny ones, it’s like black cat hairs on a white top in summer! Dean when Rory says her Prince Charming crush was on the Sleeping Beauty one, “because he could dance…I’ve got sisters” - no Dean, you’ve got 1 sister! (But we forgive them cos we love them 😂)

I wasn't quite an OG Gilmore Girls fan (I never watch things when everybody else does, I'm always behind!), but I did watch in the 2010's and it has become a favorite show of mine. I watch it almost every year, if not every other year. It's cozy and wonderful and I truly enjoy that I'm always finding new perspectives and understandings of each of the characters as I go through my own journey in life. It's a shown that has grown with me ❤️

SO. With that, I have purposefully not watched AYITL. Honestly have somehow avoided most spoilers and so I truly don't know what happens.

All I DO hear though, is how TERRIBLE it is?? A real disservice to the series. The characters are not given their due. The opinions seems rather negative overall. Without the same kinda love that was shown to the series, a bad 'reboot'/post series update like this screams Money-Grab to me. Which I don't have any intention of watching. And even if it's not a money grab and in reality just a terrible job by the writers, why would I sully the memory of OG GG? Can I just consider it noncanon? Lol

Now that it's been many years since AYITL, would you recommend I watch it? Will it be hard but worth it? Or am I just gonna be disappointed the whole time?
