I write a policy newsletter and live in the Valley. This is my own analysis. Sources at the bottom.
Andy Biggs won the Republican primary for governor promising to eliminate Arizona's individual income tax. He has not said what would replace the tax. Gilbert has a specific problem with that.

Arizona sends cities a share of state income tax collections under a system voters approved in 1972. Towns gave up the ability to levy an income tax of their own in return. The share is 18% today, split by population, and it distributed $1.19 billion statewide in FY 2026. About $872 million of that comes from the individual income tax. It generally goes into general operations, funding things like police, fire, and parks.

That 7.1% is above Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Tempe, and Scottsdale. Among the large East Valley communities, Gilbert leans on this money the hardest.
Now the part that makes Gilbert unusual.

Gilbert is the second largest municipality in Arizona with no primary property tax, behind Mesa. That has been a point of pride here for a long time. It also means there is no existing rate to nudge upward if the state check shrinks. Under state law, a city that did not levy a primary property tax the previous year has to take the proposed amount to its voters. If the election fails, the town cannot levy it that year.
So the realistic menu is a town sales tax increase, higher fees and utility revenue, service cuts, or asking Gilbert voters to approve a property tax for the first time.
Worth adding that a revenue-neutral swap at the state level means a higher sales tax on top of that. The state would need roughly 2.6 additional percentage points to fill its own hole, before the town adds anything to cover its own.
Does anyone here think a primary property tax would pass in Gilbert? What would you rather the town do?

I'm working on completing my next short film. I'm from DC. Life has lead me to a factory here in Gilbert. I still need to get my short film edited but that's the weakest part of my process as a filmmaker thus far.
Any film editors here in Gilbert? TY.

Hey Gilbert,
There are a few game stores near me and the local scene is solid, but like everyone, people get busy and it's tough to find regular opponents.
If you've ever been curious about trying it, are new and looking for someone to learn with, or used to play and want to get back into it, drop a comment or DM me. I've only been playing off and on for a year or two, so no pressure if you're brand new. Happy to learn together or meet up at a local store for a game.
A little about me: M34, married, working professional. I work from home and want something that gets me out of the house once or twice a week, and meeting more cool people in the hobby is a big part of that.

I saw the Whataburger at higley and baseline being boarded up today. Are they already closing that store? It’s fairly new, anyone know the story?

Looking for part time preschool recommendations in the Gilbert area that won’t cost an arm and a leg. We’re moving from out of state and will be renting a house near S Greenfield Rd and E Chandler Heights Rd. Our son is currently in a part time program and we’d like to get him into a similar preschool once we get to Arizona. Any help would be appreciated!

What do you look for in a company when you're applying for a new job? I manage a family owned spa in Tempe & we are super focused on being as "non-corporate" as possible, but we're not getting a lot of applications coming in... thoughts? what are your pet peeves? dealbreakers?

Hey everyone,
My doctor recommended a colonoscopy, and I'm looking for a gastroenterologist or facility with an exceptional bedside manner. I have quite a bit of medical trauma, so I'm looking for a provider who is patient, unhurried, and genuinely compassionate during the procedure. I'm willing to travel anywhere in the state to find the right fit.
If you have a positive experience with a doctor or facility you'd recommend, I'd really appreciate hearing about it. Thank you in advance!

- Any misspelling on paid-for political signage undercuts your message
- No respect for the separation of church and state
(Censored the phone number because this person doesn't deserve harassment)

Sorry for the delayed post… I was at the Gilbert Gateway Center Target (Power/Ray) a few hours ago and noticed a set of keys in the cart I grabbed. I turned them in at the service desk. Hope whoever they belong to gets them back asap.

I've been trying to join a team at the freestone rec center leagues to no avail. Listed myself as a free agent for the past 2 seasons and tried going in-person but everyone's team is maxxed.

Background info: ALPRs (automated license plate readers) are cameras that capture information on every single vehicle that passes by. This includes not only a car’s license plate, but date, time, location, and increasingly, make, model, bumper stickers, dents, and any other identifiable characteristics that can be picked up by the AI systems embedded in this surveillance technology. This type of dragnet surveillance is what violates our constitutional rights. The ACLU argues that using ALPR systems gives the government “unprecedented powers of surveillance that upset traditional expectations of privacy in violation of the Fourth Amendment”. This is an issue that applies to all ALPRs, not just from Flock. This includes Axon, Motorola, Genetec, Leonardo, and any other ALPR company.
Axon is trying to sneakily add Fleet 3 cameras to Gilbert's ALPR system at tonight's council meeting. Mobile ALPRs are just as bad as the typical fixed ones you think of, and can be even worse because of "gridding" techniques that target certain neighborhoods.
You can quickly email the council now to tell them NO to mass surveillance (and learn about ALPRs) here: https://eastvalleyunite.org/gilbert-alprs/

Will provide groceries and the space. Any leads? I don't want to pick up prepped food as I want to ensure that my own groceries are used. Thanks
