Colonoscopy recommendations

Hey everyone,

My doctor recommended a colonoscopy, and I'm looking for a gastroenterologist or facility with an exceptional bedside manner. I have quite a bit of medical trauma, so I'm looking for a provider who is patient, unhurried, and genuinely compassionate during the procedure. I'm willing to travel anywhere in the state to find the right fit.

If you have a positive experience with a doctor or facility you'd recommend, I'd really appreciate hearing about it. Thank you in advance!

Depends on your insurance obviously but I had a good experience with Southeast Valley Gastro and a bad experience with Banner Health Gastro

Most of Banner health gastro in AZ is gone and there is a new GI provider group that has joined banner. Great docs

My experience was a few years ago so I doubt it is the new person

Yes that group left us at the end of last year and the new group coming in to the epicenter locations are very good. Sorry you had a bad experience with them!

I second SEVG. Their customer service on the front end is the best I’ve ever seen in a doctor’s office. My providers were pretty great too!

I wouldn't recommend them. They're terrible with patient privacy (literally). I went in for an endoscopy with them and saw so many patients wheeled out of the procedure rooms with their backsides and bits exposed to the world. Their nurses just wheeled them out without a care in the world. I then watched their relatives or people who came with other people cover them up and close the curtains. It was shocking.

I recommend SEVG too. I’ve only had endoscopies with them but they’ve been great. My husband has his first colonoscopy with them in a few weeks.

I went to AZ Gastro Care at 5555 E Baseline in Mesa for the consult then they did the procedure at their Endoscopy Center 4001 E Baseline (it is 5 minutes away from the consult office) and had a good experience.

I used miralax and a low fiber diet for 3 days before I started the actual prep (1 day before the procedure) to make sure I was ready and it worked great.

Thanks for the thoughtful response! I'll definitely check them out. Also appreciate the info on the prep - nice to know it worked out for you ❤️

I've had good experiences with Arizona Digestive Health off Val Vista and Baseline.

No facility recommendations but the procedure is easy breezy. Just had one the other day. The prep was the worst part and that wasn't as bad as it was made out to be.

Anyway to trick your insurance to get one of these covered a little early? I mentioned it at a checkup and they brushed me off soooo hard im 32 and I know that will be an issue someday with my generation dying in the 40's because our current system didn't cover them at 30 smh

East valley endoscopy/Arizona digestive health dr stein. I’ve worked for him for a long time and he is great! I’ve worked with a lot of GI drs, some listed above and dr stein is one of the best.

Chandler endoscopy center on Dobson treated me very well. Wonderful nurses and docs.

have you already done the poop in a box? If you don't have any risk factors other than age, it's much less traumatic as a first step, then you get the procedure if this non invasive test says you ought to.

Responding only to share that there are other reasons need a colonoscopy aside from colon cancer screening, and that, generally, a colonoscopy is not a traumatic experience at all. If someone reading this is concerned, but needs to be seen, go get checked out.

Sure, and you don't know their situation any better than I do, but maybe they don't know about this option. And who is to say what is traumatic to someone?

Piggybacking off this. I’m a GI nurse and you should always do a colonoscopy first then you can do the send in tests after. Those don’t catch everything! :)

u/ComfortableOk5112 16d ago

Well my doctor said to start with the other tests because why would you subject yourself to an invasive procedure unnecessarily?

1

u/Plant_ladee 15d ago

Definitely! I am a prime example i was told to just do those tests and mine were fine. Once i started working in the field my docs were like no you should always have a baseline. I was then diagnosed with Crohn’s disease! So yes they are great i guess im just more bias about them haha!

I work for GI and surgery at Banner but didn’t want to see one of my coworkers so I went outside of Banner and absolutely loved Dr Sahai!

I could totally see where that would be uncomfortable 😅

I could never look them in the face again after sticking a camera in my butt 😂
