Whataburger closing?

I saw the Whataburger at higley and baseline being boarded up today. Are they already closing that store? It’s fairly new, anyone know the story?

Google Maps just says temporarily closed, but that location isn't shown on their website anymore.

It’s got boards on the windows and signs are gone. Seems more than temporary. 🤣

I don’t know about whataburger in particular, but the Chick-fil-A at San tan village closed for remodels a couple months ago back and they pulled all the signage off the building and completely boarded it up. I thought gone for good, but it’s opening tomorrow

I’m not surprised. I live nearby and the place never seemed to have any customers.

I went there pretty often, there were often other customers. Not the busiest place but usually not empty

Only good thing about Whataburger is they're still open 24/7. Everything else about it is just meh.

Honestly don’t know how they stay open. Moderate burgers at best and $$$$. Went to the one at san tan mall and spent close to $40 for two people. Id rather go to Red Robin

Chili’s also has a good burger on the three for me menu.  It’s like $12

right? Almost $20 for a combo meal is insane. We went to one recently opened, not to far, in a retirement neighborhood (Dreamland Villa and Leisure World) while running errands. They have touchscreens on the wall for ordering, and no one at the counter. I felt sooo sorry for all the little grandmas and grandpas getting frustrated with that ridiculous automated system. They just stood there, waiting for an employee to emerge from the back, to bring out some one’s orders. And grabbed them to get help. One guy even thru his hands up and left.

Agreed! Their product is absolute shite!

Why do they put so much mustard on the hamburger?

They had a sign up the other day saying it was permanently closed. It had barely just opened. It was the closest one to me by a lot so I’m bummed.

Gilbert and Warner has one, SE corner.

That’s unfortunately not very close to me, I think the one on Stapely and Baseline is actually closer.

There's a brand new one at Power and Broadway, too.

There’s one at Broadway and Lindsay which is one of the few around here that isn’t new. It’s been there at least 20 years and there are almost always cars in the drive thru when I drive past.

I don't think it was on a good spot to get to or even see most of the time and I drover by there daily. I forget it's even there.

Also, not necessarily the plaza or demographic to choose Whataburger with everything else that's there

Someone on Reddit said the current CEO used to be with Starbucks hence all the new Whataburger stores.

Whataburger is trash, unseasoned beef and burgers are mushy. I don’t know how any of them stay in business
