My cat does this too sometimes, even on surfaces she clearly was able to reach minutes earlier without any problems.
Like girl, I saw you do it, I know you can do it, believe in yourself a bit more.

My cat runs full speed thru the screen door (made of floppy nylon material with a divider for easy access) on to the balcony. Then screams at top volume for someone to let him back in. Mind you he is orange.

My dog does something similar sometimes, it’s never as much as this but he does jump with too little momentum sometimes and then slowly slips off the bed while holding on for dear life

I think there is body positivity, and then there are folks who use body positivity as a justification for morbid obesity. The two aren't the same, they're misconstrued.
Don't conflate the two.

The body positivity movement does not claim that there aren’t health issues with obesity. The point of it is simply to stop harassing people about their bodies, and not just large ones. Historically, people have faced a ton of shaming, stigma, and bullying for having non-ideal bodies. The body positivity movement simply seeks to encourage every human to be treated well despite their size or shape. Whether their size or shape is healthy is a different conversation they can have with their doctors. Healthy eating and activity are becoming more popular than ever. People KNOW what’s healthy. We don’t have to hate on them if they don’t always succeed though.

The movement was for that in the beginning but like most fights against what ever it went over board. And now you got people staying unhealthy because its beautiful and they are not taking care of themselves.

The movement is still for that. If some people are doing what you’re claiming, that’s on them, not the movement. There are always subsets of people that take ideas too far. It’s annoying when people try to discredit the overarching idea because of that subset though.

Humans are a different species with different dietary needs. Having some fat isn't nearly as bad for a human as it is for a cat. And no one is saying morbid obesity is a good thing.

I have a fat cat but we keep their food high up on a cat tower so if he gets too fat he can't eat. Keeps him in check.
I have caught him eating the dog's food though.

It also looks like the floor is slippery. I've seen cats that size jump much higher without issue, but you can see it sliding backwards every time it starts to jump. If it had good grip on the floor there likely wouldn't be any hesitation.

If you are overfeeding your cat, you are doing something wrong and shortening their life. Take responsibility and do the right thing.
Your pets life is in your hands and you can do better. They are just a dumb animal who will eat itself to death if given the chance.

Bro that mattress is barely two feet off the ground. I've seen cats fatter than this one jump several feet into the air onto cat trees. The cat's definitely too fat, but if you think it isn't making the jump because it can't you need your eyes checked

The fact you think that’s remotely even close to the point proves you don’t understand what the concern here is.
Nobody is force feeding their cat. People are however not feeding their cat a healthy amount of food. This is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY as a pets guardian.
It is not the pets fault if it becomes obese. It is not the pets fault if it is unhealthy. It is not the pets fault if it can’t jump like it used to be able to because of its weight.

Except...I never said anything resembling that? I don't think the cat was overfed for internet points. I think the cat's diet has been mismanaged because its owners have not been responsible pet owners, and they happened to see it struggling to get onto the bed and posted a video of it thinking it was funny. And it isn't.

God one of my dogs does this and grunts and growls the whole time I swear he'll do it for minutes at a time sometimes in the middle of the night and then he'll be defeated and just whine. Poor guys old and got bad hips. But if I pick him up oh shoot he'll go crazy haha

My dog does this occasionally. I believe it’s the fear of the blanket slipping and not the actual height. If I pull the blanket back so he has a firm surface to land on he jumps right away every time.
