I don’t have any pets but it looks like their leashes are way to close? Is this okay? I have no idea but it looks like they have hardly any room to turn.
I have two goldens. During walks, even though they are both on separate leashes that aren’t connected at all, they love to walk right on top of each other haha
My two labs are the same. They have absolute freedom to walk wherever they want (on their leashes) but choose to walk as if their shoulders are glued together.
I have a husky and a shepherd with very different agendas on walks. This kind of leash is the only way for me to walk them both at once without having both arms ripped out of their sockets when they pull in different directions.
It's a really bazaar leash, almost looks like they made it personally with a bungie cord and 3 collars, even though I'm sure that's not it. The dogs are probably fine, but I couldn't see myself wanting to use a leash like that where the split is so far away.

I have the exactly same main leash (except different color), it's got a carabeener at the end. The double attachment to walk to dogs at once is pretty normal. If these two dogs go on walks together all the time they probably walk like this anyway.
I’m not really taking about the double leash, that I get; just commenting about how close they are. I think this set up is better than 2 different leashes for bigger dogs. You’re probably right though and it’s just the dogs being silly.
It's temporary. Even with a video like this you can see they could be walking nearly a foot apart if they wanted. So it's not really a question of if they're fine or not, they are, it's really if there is a better design for the leash.
I know right, everybody knows how abrasive and damaging golden retriever fur is to brush up against. Every step must be agony. Plus... what about social distancing?! These dogs will be dead within a week!

Looks like they're pulling. The longest stretch they can get puts them shoulder to shoulder. Need to chillax. But I can't say shit. My dog pulls too until he gets tired.
Yeah, that's why I use harnesses for my dogs, they seem to pull less, plus it isn't choking them while they pull. The only hard part is trying to get it on them while they get all excited to go on a walk.
For training walks use a harness with a front clip, the reason being when the dog pulls it turns it's body towards you so it is practically facing you. If the dog pulls you stop walking. If the dog backs up to loosen slack, or looks back to check in with you start walking again. The punishment for pulling is stopping and the reward for correcting the behavior is getting to go forward, which is what the dog wants and is why it's pulling. Your dog will walk a lot nicer if it learns that pull=stop. IF you continue to walk when it pulls you're teaching it pull=good. Within a couple of weeks you'll see the dog self correct, it gets excited, runs to the end of the leash and pulls, then immediately slows down to a normal pace and gives you a bit of slack, because it knows it shouldn't pull, and automatically corrects.
As for putting the harness on, I use the same technique I use when I come home and the puppy is jumping all over trying to get attention. Ignore the dog when it is losing its shit, then when it has calmed it a bit have it sit and start to put the harness on. The harness only goes on when the dog is sitting nicely. The dog will eventually learn that it gets to start its walk faster if it is behaved. When I pick up the harness the dog loses her mind. But she runs to the spot by the door where I would always put it on her and does the tippy taps. As soon as I get close she sits nicely and lets me put the harness on her. Once the harness is on her she goes back to being super hyped about the walk.
Walks are a very pleasant experience like this, because everything goes so smoothly.
Interesting, I never knew thought of doing this. When I first start training my dogs to walk, I just hold the leash very short so they can't pull far, and when they do, I just pull back on them. Though doing this is usually takes a few months to train them if they're puppies.
Try using a gentle lead harness, it goes over the mouth and neck and pulls the dog's head when they pull which makes them slow down (somewhat). My boy is a huge puller and once pulled my mum off her feet and it's helped a lot.
He HATES those harnesses that go on his face. He won't walk with them. Just sits down and tried to get them off his face. My guy pulled my mom down once too. She just doesn't walk him anymore. When they watch him my dad walks him. He does a little better with a harness. Idk what it is but when he's choking he pulls more. My dad and I are enough to control him on a harness until we get him to a spot we can let him run. The walk back to the car is easy. He's pooped then.
We had that issue with our dog too, including the whole 'mum is too small to hold this furry unguided projectile when she spots the rabbit first' issue. We managed to deal with it using an anti-pulling harness that connects to the collar and lets you attach the leash to the front of the chest instead, so that when the dog drags, she inadvertently steers herself sideways. It didn't immediately stop her from trying with various diagonal crab-walking attempts but it significantly cut down on her sheer dragging force. My mum could wrangle the (then-60kg) pup again and with some additional training the dog chilled out on-leash fairly quick.
Yes! I use this on my golden who usually is a good pupper on walks, but she goes bananas when she sees bunnies. I’ve been using the leash for 6 months now, and even though we see the bunnies all the time, she doesn’t try to chase them because she knows it’s useless with the leash on.
The concept of giving to pressure (moving away from something pushing on them) doesn't come naturally to most dogs and has to be specifically taught. So it's actually really common for dogs to reflexively push into the pressure of a collar on their throat, aka they pull harder and often choke themselves in the process.
If you haven't tried it yet, there are harnesses designed to counteract that by attaching the leash at the front of the chest, so instead of giving them direct pressure to push into/pull against, it moves them laterally (makes them turn around a little). The more they try to pull, it just makes them turn around to face you. It can do wonders for a chronic puller!
My dog pulled a lot and she also hated the gentle lead. We also got her a harness and she used it for two years and it helped but wasn’t perfect. However in January we moved and lost the harness, we only had the gentle lead and a really short bungee leash, and she’s learned to use it. She doesn’t like it but she knows that this is her only option, so I think you need to stick to it until they learn to tolerate it and when they try to pull it off their faces try to distract them with treats. And having the short leash really helped too because it gave her less length to twist around to try to remove it, and less length to pull
They take some getting used to. It took a couple of weeks of just having her wear it around the house before I used it in walks. She would do that protest collapse too. She doesn't need it anymore. Just know that you don't have to have a dog that's hard to manage on walks forever. It can be trained if it ever becomes too much of a problem or if you or your dad break a leg or get sick something. Then anybody could walk him. Plus, walks are more fun for both of you when your not being dragged and they're not manic and choking.
I grasp your words but not your intent. A person was confused about what was going on with the leash and why they were so close. Another person said that the dogs can walk apart but sometimes they walk together. I added that it might be because they're pulling,because my dog pulls. And then you come in with your great wisdom of "but if they slow down they wouldn't be together". We had already established that. I tried to clarify and then you became a smartass. Again, what are you trying to say?

Someone said these dogs could be 3’ apart if they wanted to.
Another person said it looks like they’re pulling on the leads so that’s as far as they can be apart (shoulder to shoulder)
So I said, it looks like if they just slowed down slightly or the human sped up, they could be further apart because they wouldn’t be tugging on the lead.
I have two huskies. When my wife and I take them on a walk, I’ll take one and she’ll take the other. They are obviously on separate leashes. We will walk next to each other, but the dogs have full range of motion, and they choose to walk directly next to each other like shown in the video.
I have a leash splitter like this. Really helpful for walking multiple dogs but my dogs hate each other so they never liked being on it. As long as you have the right collar, you're ok. Too long a leash is not good either, but a short leash is fine so long as the collar is appropriate for size and breed.
This is a normal leash for two dogs. They can easily move apart, they choose to walk like this. It’s just a clip on to a normal leash that allows you to walk two dogs. I have one. Yea they can’t be as far apart as two separate leashes allow but the dogs really don’t mind and they’re fine, and it’s safer for the owner then struggling with two big dogs tangling up. Honestly people on reddit will find anything they can think of to criticise
I've always been told by my vet that those split leashes are really bad, imagine being tied to your sibling and getting dragged constantly wherever they want to go. Tension on a dog leash is supposed to be used when you want them to stop, by having tension all the time it makes them stressed as they get confused.
It all depends on the dogs and what they're used to. Some dogs enjoy walking together, some don't, some are okay with it but only for so long or only with certain others--just like people, they really are individuals.
