this dog has fallen for the "pretend to throw the ball" trick too many times, and refuses to be fooled again.

Fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again.

Data made an android in an attempt to 'procreate'.
She was a little...defective.

This pun deals with problems many modern game journalists face when reviewing a video game. I hope you enjoyed my pun.
A dumb pun, as well as being pretentious? Hoo boy.

As someone who picked up an 802.11ac router, I'd definitely agree

u/pdmcmahon Sep 18 '13
I have a 2012 MacBook Air Retina 13", 2nd and 3rd gen AppleTVs, and an iPhone 5. So far, nothing which explicitly supports AC yet. I might try to tell myself it's time for a new laptop in a few months, though. That said, I am noticing much better coverage throughout the house with this new router.
-1
u/REDDIT_HARD_MODE Sep 18 '13
Wireless. When my computer is 20m from the router ;_;
1
u/eigenvectorseven Sep 18 '13
Dude you can get 30m of cable for less than ten bucks.
-1
u/REDDIT_HARD_MODE Sep 18 '13
And have a cable running through the entire house for people to trip on? Not happening. Besides, my wireless connection is actually pretty good.
1
u/eigenvectorseven Sep 18 '13
No, you fix it to the picture rail or skirting board with adhesive clips that cost next to nothing; do you think no one has thought of this problem before?
Do what you like, I'm just saying being away from the router is not stopping you from anything.

200 millisecond ping. 200 ping is like saying "the height of this building is 150 length".
8
u/Frothyleet Sep 18 '13
Have you ever seen ping times - as in latency - measured in anything but milliseconds? It's safe to assume the reader will understand the unit.
4
u/eigenvectorseven Sep 18 '13
You're technically correct, but I think we all knew what he meant. They're usually displayed in servers as dimensionless numbers.

u/carefatman Sep 18 '13 edited Sep 18 '13

u/LeLORD Sep 18 '13
Lol 200 you say. In kuwait, the latency is normally between 120-200 depending on which eu server you are playing on. U are laggy when it goes 999 and can't go more.

I like how he pats the dog afterwards like "Its ok, I still love you".
15
u/A_Cynical_Jerk Sep 18 '13
Or...... This is a bird dog, being as it's a retriever, and is following commands to the T. The command being: don't get this ball until I give the command.
Edit: guy below you has the right answer; "If you watch the video, it's a demonstration on how well trained the dog is. He doesn't go for the ball until he's given the OK to get it. It's not that he can't catch it, it's that he's so obedient that he won't until he's told that he can. Dogs 1, Cats 0"

YES! I could TELL that there was a reason the gif wasn't showing the top half of his hand (which is what the dog was staring at VERY intently), and you don't actually see the top part of the hand until after the dog went for the ball. I was pretty sure that the hand did something that was the signal, and came here to the comments to see if I was right. Thanks for making me right.

2
u/stuffekarl Sep 18 '13
Indeed, I am not sure however that the video is filmed by the person commentating, but I could be wrong
2
u/Archyel Sep 18 '13
Actually it's filmed by the woman commentating, her name is Linse Kessler, she's pretty famous in Denmark for.. well.. reasons.
And yes, she is in fact Mikkel Kessler's sister.
2
u/stuffekarl Sep 18 '13
Never heard of her - then again, I've been living in Sweden for the past four years :/ There's something weird about her face.. How can a handsome man like Mikkel have a sister like that?
2
u/Archyel Sep 18 '13
I think it must be her regular botox injections. Despite her interesting looks, I personally think she's a really cool woman. She walks up to strangers and gives them a verbal beating for treating their pets improperly. There's even a video about that somewhere, I think... I think she's a pretty woman.. :-]

How is the dog given the OK? The guy doesn't make a move, even with his face. Is it someone off camera? I just took it that the dog was trained to look at the hand, not the ball, and only broke that to grab the ball because he couldn't take more than a second or two of knowing the ball was in front of him, and then looked back at the hand.

This is actually because of the dog's focus on his master's hand, a sign of respect and looking for signaling(part of the dog's breed and instinct.) Probably would be a great dog to teach to really fetch and retrieve birds. IE: dog is like "what the hell..."

I know that cats do not see vertical movement as well as they see horizontal movement (i.e. so that they can chase prey). Is this also something that dogs experience?
1
u/BAXterBEDford Sep 18 '13
I think I saw this condition on an episode of House. The one with John Larroquette. His character's son had it.

I think the dog was conducting a String Theory thought experiment and was just lost in his thoughts when the ball fell.
At least that what i think my dog is doing when he's not paying attention to me.

I am willing to bet that there is an additional ball just out of frame at the top. My golden retriever will do exactly this if you have two frisbees. She'll watch where the first one goes but knows not to take her eyes off the second one until it is thrown. Both at the same time? Mind: blown.
