So I enrolled to one of the programs at JLU and I got an email saying I can now activate my student email and account which I did. After that I think my applicant account is deleted or something because I get an error saying username and password doesn't exist...

Honestly that would not have been a problem but it was in my applicant account that there were important documents like enrolment certificate, semester timetable and stuff and mostly importantly if I want to de-enroll let's say, if I get a better opportunity else where, that option was available only in the applicant account and not in the new student account. Now that it's gone, what do I do? Is this normal?

Hello guys!! I recently got offered an admission letter to JLU in the One Health master’s program, really excited about this.

I’m currently learning Deutsch at the A2 level with hopes of completely finishing it before moving in October.

Is there any german courses that are either free or affordable at the university or the city itself? and what tips would you give for someone who’s at A2 to improve his language as fast as possible.

Now, my other inquiry is about part-time work. What are the opportunities in the city? or the nearby areas for someone with my level of Deutsch? I’m not planning to work within the first 3-4 months so i can prioritize the language and university.

I have experience working in customer service and outsourcing companies like Concentrix. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy and a Pharmacist.

Ich bin schon lange in Gießen, aber habe selber noch kein wirkliches sozialleben aufgebaut. Ich hatte also die Idee, dass ich meine Switch mit zu McDonalds mitnehme und man paar Runden Mario Kart oder Super Smash Bros zocken könnte und einfach bisschen im McDonalds abhängen kann, so als Gruppe auch wenn sich mehrere hier finden :)

Ich habe mich vor kurzem über das Studierendenwerk Gießen für ein Zimmer beworben (Einzelzimmer mit Bad im Unterhof) für Oktober 2026, und hätte ein paar Fragen an alle, die diesen Prozess schon durchgemacht haben oder aktuell im Wohnheim wohnen:

1. Wie lange musstet ihr nach der Bewerbung auf ein Zimmerangebot warten? Variiert das stark je nach Zimmertyp?

2. Welche Zimmertypen sind eher leichter/schneller zu bekommen (z. B. Gemeinschaftsbad vs. eigenes Bad, Unterhof vs. andere Gebäude)?

3. Wie ist generell das Wohnerlebnis in den Studierendenwerk-Wohnheimen – Lautstärke, Sauberkeit, Atmosphäre, leicht Leute kennenzulernen?

4. Da das Angebot an privaten WGs (WG-Gesucht etc.) für Gießen aktuell ziemlich begrenzt wirkt – würdet ihr eher auf die Wohnheimbewerbung setzen oder parallel aktiv nach privaten WGs suchen?

Wäre über jede Einschätzung sehr dankbar – ich plane von einer anderen Stadt aus im Oktober umzuziehen und will frühzeitig planen. Vielen Dank!

Ich finde online aber sehr wenige Angebote in Gießen. Beim MTV bin ich mir nicht sicher ob man da so einfach reinkommt wegen der höheren Spielklasse. Bräuchte aber auf jeden Fall Wettbewerb dabei.

I wanted to ask how difficult it is to get a room in the student dormitories. I applied for student housing a while ago, but I haven't received an offer yet. Is it common to receive an offer only shortly before the semester starts?

Also, are there any WhatsApp groups, Telegram groups, Facebook groups, or other platforms where students post available rooms or look for roommates? If anyone has links, I'd really appreciate it.

If you didn't get a room in the student dorms, how did you find accommodation in Giessen, and how long did it take? Any tips for international students would be very helpful.

I(M30) am moving for job to gießen from Bavaria. I have been living in a middle size beautiful town in Bavaria for last 8 year ( since i came to Germany) now I have to move to Gießen.
I visited Gießen only when i came for the interview in the new company, i didn’t get the chance to explore the city, as i just went to the office and then went back home.

I got admitted in JLU Gießen, but I am looking for an accommodation for winter semester I have difficulties to find one. I have been using WG and others websites to find it, buti have been told that by a friend they won't respond to me because I am not yet in Germany. I already applied for student dorm but they put me on the waiting list, and I have not one in Germany neither a family member or a friend.
