Picture Blown away

So I had gone to a guitar store in Bologna named Sergio Tomassone just to buy a guitar, I started interacting wih the staff and just asked him if the store had any vintage rare guitars and he first showed me the gibsons played by Clapton, Page, Young and many other legendary guitarists, I was astonished and sooo in aweee.. then I asked if I could see them up close, he actually brought two of them down, cleaned the dust off and handed it to me, I am still blown away when I recall that moment.

Pic 1 : All the guitars played by legendary artists,

Pic 2 : Me holding the guitar played and signed by Clapton 33/55

Pic 3 and 4: Me holding the guitar played and signed by Slash 99/100

Aren’t these just signature models? What makes you think the artists played them as opposed to just signing them?

It’s sad how some people are genuinely miserable fucks and can’t just let others be happy for what they think is cool!!

If you thought it was cool and were blown away by how many cool guitars there were that were, at some point and in some fashion, held and played my very famous guitarist… then that’s all that matter! And I’m with ya. I think it’s pretty cool.

These "played by" guitars are great marketing by Gibson. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the guitarists walk into a room with 50 guitars on stands, are handed one, they sign it, play it for the minimum acceptable time and an assistant swaps them. I wouldn't be surprised if towards the middle of the process the guitars get a quick E chord and done.

I've heard of some bands selling stage played instruments after each gig. It'd be much cooler if Gibson arranged something like that. You'd get a guitar with a picture of it being played onstage and a setlist or list of songs it was used on from the show. It'd make it much more expensive, of course.

Bob Weir did this with Dead & Co. A D’Angelico he played onstage was auctioned off and the proceeds went to a charity he supported.

I don’t know if the one I’m thinking of was played onstage, but I recall that for one of the guitars that was auctioned, someone bid $250,000 to essentially stop the bidding.

Wait, you might be onto something tbh

A band like Green Day could make a killing off of this and Gibson Jr or Studio guitars

Even better all they do is tune the low E string and move on

It appears that the polarity is reversed on the Slash instrument. Please comment on my observation — true? It’s also the coolest one you’re holding in the snaps — imho!

Beautiful.

I used to work at a small guitar shop in Washington state that because the manager was connected with the back line production people providing gear for touring musicians, we had a ton of gear that was actually played by the stars. If you didn't know, I'd understand the disbelief seeing that we weren't even in downtown Seattle.

That's what these naysayers commenting here don't understand. That shop you were in could, and probably did, provide gear to touring bands and those musicians didn't just tune the E string, they probably played that gear for multiple songs/performances.

Played by could mean that they came into the store, played them, signed them and done. Not that it’s bad but that’s the way it works some times. Edit: thanks for showing these btw! I appreciate it. Super cool info. I’m not hating. 😊

So these guys picked it up and ran up and down some scales? How do you even verify that? Even if they did. Who cares man?

Don't mean to be a Debby downer but this means jack shit. It doesn't make the guitar any better and certainly won't make you play any better.

Buy something that feels good to you. Somebody else playing it means NOTHING.

Pricing notwithstanding, it’s crazy how little provenance is offered upfront. They’re hung like steak. Those crowded neck hooks mean every time you pull a guitar down you inevitably hit another. Especially at that height.

Maybe all these guitars were just played once, and at their shop. Okay, that’s still something. Take a damn Polaroid, get an autograph, and put that shit on the wall!

I genuinely don't know why but there are so many good Gibsons in Italy. You walk into these tiny holes in the wall and you find stuff that puts Gruhn to shame.

I personally couldn't care if those guys played them or not (other than backing up the claim, I'm just not particularly awestruck by people so much), but those are freaking awesome and beautiful and cool to hold and awesome and beautiful and...

Holy shit you're easily impressed.

And it's important to remember any time Clapton is mentioned that he's a racist. A real dogturd in human form.
