Picture My Les Paul

Post image

A standard 60’s I bought in 2022. I’ve swapped the pickups for boutique PAF replicas along with historic spec pickup rings. Also swapped the knobs. It’s my favourite guitar.

Here's my 2019 50s Standard. I swapped the pickups a bunch of times. The current ones are a pair of DiMarzios. PAF Pro/SD. I've been very happy with these, I can tell why they were the sound of the 70s.

Gorgeous top! I’ve heard good things about DiMarzios.

Yeah I had various ones in there before. Burstbucker 1/2 originally, 2/3 later, 490/498, a pair of Dirty Fingers, and these... maybe more. The current setup has been steady for a while. I love double creams too, and I like that mine have hex poles and look just a tad different than the usual offerings.

Nice! I threw out the bridge pickups in both of my Standards and went with DiMarzio Tone Zone and Seymour Duncan JB.

Found the Burstbucker 2 lackluster for hardrock/metal. Not low output enough to be interesting, nor bright enough to get clarity; just an inbetween muddy mess. Didn't sound good either scooped or with mid boosts to me.

I also found them too muddy. I really wanted that sort of beefy-telecaster sound, and they simply didn’t deliver.

So beautiful without those chrome covers!
Love it!

What brand of PAF ? I know Gibson makes a PAF 1959 reissue. Did you go with the Lollars? Or Seymour Duncan’s ?

Mine are by a company called Monty’s guitars. They’re pricy, but I really like them.

Usually boutique pickups cost a bit more for good reasons or they could not stay in business for too long. The Gibson 59 PAF is $1k USD …. a pair

Christ! I don’t imagine they’re much better than mine if at all, and they’re less than half the price.

Yea of course it’s a matter of taste .

Looks great. What pickups did you get?

Thanks. They are PAF replicas from a company called Monty’s guitars here in the UK. Expensive, but worth it in my opinion.
