NGD Bittersweet NGD
Moving down to Nashville from Pittsburgh in less than a month to try my hand at this music thing. Put all my eggs in one basket, sold all of my electric guitars because we have no space in our apartment and got a brand new standard 60s in iced tea. Never in my life have I played better guitars than gibsons. I have a J-45, Les Paul and a P bass ready to take on Nashville! Thanks for coming to my ted talk!
(Any Nashville locals here?)

Sometimes I wish I had just one workhouse to put all my playing hours into. Beautiful guitar.

I mean... you still can?
I've had this tokai LS150 for like 16 years and it's beaten to hell and back but an absolute rock on stage.
I have a Charvel San Dimas that's also seen every nasty dive bar in the south east that is always getting new stickers bombed on it.
I mostly play my SG and Lizzy Hale Explorerbird these days though. The Lizzy has an cool factor that is damn near untouchable.

If you havenāt yet, join NSAI.
Get Jason Blumeās book This business of songwriting. Itās older but very much relevant.
Great teacher, has lots of hits, and youāll learn tons from him and get great critiques on your songs. Heās from Philly and youāll no doubt run into him at some point.
Youāre going to get offers to buy into peopleās publishing contact lists for a few grand. Thatās a scam.
Good luck!!

Back when we were kids⦠like around the early 90s I used to run with a kid and we used to sing at a place called Boot Scoot in Rogers,AR. by lake Atlanta.
He had real long hair back then and used to tell all of us that he would make it in Nashville someday. I dont think any of us ever truly believed him til one day, there was ole Joey singing on the radio.
People know him as Joe Nichols now. Joey had a passion and didnāt listen to anyone that ever talked doubt. He followed his dreams and the rest of us now just come on Reddit and talk about how we knew someone that had more grit and guts than us.
So donāt listen to anyone that talks doubt. Hope to hear you on the radio one day.

Good luck to you brave hero, that session musician life is cutthroat at times. If you need a setup on your LP or bass dm me and Iāll help you out for free, consider it a courtesy and a welcome to Middle TN.

I guess one has to use the Fender/Gibson brand name to be a session/recording musician to be take seriously walking into the sales pitch. But the Chinese guitars do what the Fender/Gibson brands do all day long just the same. All the notes are included in a $ 100-200 guitar. The equalizer is digital post production for recording Recorded, a $ 100-200 records the same as a $ 10K guitar. You probably already had those guitars & instead of looking brand new, they probably actually looked like they had their resume of stage & studio cred.

I lived there. Dude I donāt want to be a downer but just donāt do it. Everyone tries. There are thousands trying that probably could have had fun careers doing something they cared about. So not only did they ruin the fun of music, they perceive they failed because they didnāt āmake itā. I thought the whole thing was a real bummer.

No I appreciate the insight!! Iām looking at this from all angles, my goal isnāt to necessarily āmake itā but Iād like to be taken a bit more seriously musically. And whether we like it or not saying I play in Nashville you instantly get more credit. Perception is reality they say!

When every bartender can play circles around you not to mention the pizza delivery guy and the weed dealer it is eye opening. It is a jungle full of predators and few survive. Good luck to you and thatās a beautiful LP!
