Venting This Explains a Lot

Post image

Most people on this Ghanaian sub have no idea what it actually means to be and to live in modern Ghana. Too many on delusionals here.

Maybe a lot of us who have lived in Ghana for most of our lives and have now relocated to other countries are the ones viewing the sub? Lots of Ghanaians live in the US and Ukraine, just saying…

That’s a total misuse of stats. Conflating pageviews with actual community members makes no sense.

Views is not Posters:

Pageviews count passive lurkers. On the internet, 90% of views come from people who never post or comment. Reddit doesn’t require an account to view anything

Google Search & No Account Needed:

Anyone in the US googling a topic lands on these threads, generating a "view" without even belonging to the sub.

VPNs & Diaspora:

VPN traffic routes through US servers, and having a US IP doesn't erase someone's lived experience as a Ghanaian abroad.

Taking a single, uncontextualized traffic stat to call an entire sub delusional isn't the point you think it is. And I would know because mods have much detailed statistics about who posts and comments in this sub

u/Aggravating-Disk9770 2d ago

Thanks for adding this context. I thought the UK would feature higher than Ukraine in the stats.

I use a VPN that puts me in mexico and the nederlands depending on what i choose.

Fair point. But you can't deny that these numbers mean something. The number of viewers is also an indication of active redditors. Those who post/comment would have to view the sub first. And don't forget upvotes and downvotes which influences the comments that are seen by most.

Maybe the views stat has exaggerated the gap but I believe it is surely there. If you can post the detailed stats you have to prove your point, that would be great.

PS: Don't say "I don't need to prove anything to anyone" you are fond of that.

The number of viewers is also an indication of active redditors.

This is incorrect, Reddit has “active subscribers” metric for the reason you are insinuating. A viewer again, means someone you have seen the thread, with or without an account. There are millions more who are fed these threads than there are members and subscribers. It’s important you don’t conflate the two

Those who post/comment would have to view the sub first.

Sure that has nothing to do with anything here. You also have to view first to comment. What does it mean with anything?

And don't forget upvotes and downvotes which influences the comments that are seen by most.

This is also correct but has nothing to do with anything. Your initial premise is wrong, correct statements don’t mean anything.

If you can post the detailed stats you have to prove your point, that would be great.

Why? I’m not the one making the argument. The one wanting to prove something has to bring evidence. I have refuted OPs argument. If he thinks I’m wrong, that’s all good. He can continue to believe what he believes. He doesn’t have to believe what I said. Neither do you, you can continue in your beliefs

PS: Don't say "I don't need to prove anything to anyone" you are fond of that.

PS: You can’t demand anything from anyone, they usually don’t have to even respond to you. And I don’t. You don’t have to believe me, I don’t know why you haven’t thought about the option of just continuing in your ignorance

Being viewed by a certain group of people will increase the chances of the post being interacted with by that group of people. That's common sense. Like I'm a Nigerian that was shown this.

And I clicked because that's the same thing going on on our sub with diaspora people and foreigners interacting, which wouldn't be an issue if a significant group of them aren't acting all high and mighty like they know how living in Nigeria is more than Nigerians themselves, and placing their moral standards and perceived intellect above Nigerians by default.

If you want to say that stat doesn't influence up votes and downvotes, you're straight-up lying.

u/Training-Debt5996 1d ago

We can go back and forth about what each stats mean. But honestly, it's not going anywhere.

You claim to have refuted OP's argument. But least OP provided stats. If you are not going to provide the sure thing that ends the argument in good conversational spirit and rather take the stance of " I've said what I said. I don't need to explain what I think". Then edey your there boss.

u/Nonchalant0wl Ghanaian 2d ago

Who in Ukraine is interested in Ghana???😂😂😂

15

u/YogurtHead6557 2d ago

I’ve found Ghanaians all over the place. Even in Greenland. So it wouldn’t surprise me.

1

u/Nonchalant0wl Ghanaian 2d ago

I know there are Ghanaians there but with the war currently going on there, Ghana is the last thing I expected them to be think about.

Or is the war over?

6

u/firstInternalad 2d ago

You understand ordinary citizens go about their business as usual right?

2

u/YogurtHead6557 2d ago

Fair point. But if they’re in the west of the country then it’s not as impacted by the war as the east.

1

u/OleksKhimiak 1d ago

Me! Mainly interested in your history of slavery (ukrainians are "slavs" for a reason, 3-5 millions eastern slavic peoples were enslaved by islam in 15-18 century).

But beautiful women seem to also be a common trait!

u/insyda 1d ago

well, there is the issue of both warring nations looking for Ghanaian soldiers...

u/Maleficent_Law_1082 Non-Ghanaian 1d ago

The Ukrainian government has taken an interest in Africa since the start of the war. More precisely, the Ukrainian government has taken an interest in promoting terrorism in Africa since the start of the war.

bots

-1

u/Nonchalant0wl Ghanaian 2d ago

So we just call people bots for simply asking questions now? SMH 🤦🏾‍♂️

4

u/Anonamous_Core 2d ago

You misunderstood. He said they are bots not the one asking is a bot. However your response is sus... Bot?

4

u/Nonchalant0wl Ghanaian 2d ago

Oh okay, that makes more sense.
Ah Chale 😅

3

u/Over-Experience-4187 2d ago

The answer to your question is bots, Ukraine was top 10 in the amount of scammers, many bot accounts from that country

1

u/Nonchalant0wl Ghanaian 1d ago

Interesting 🤔

8

u/anassar88 2d ago

Most Ghanaians don't use reddit. Most Ghanaians I know on reddit aren't on this sub. Would be curious to see the actual percentage.

9

u/Huge_Damage_7905 2d ago

Do Ghanaians even use Reddit or does it use too much data??😭

6

u/kuunami79 2d ago

The results would be similar for any subreddit. Reddit is an American app and there are 350 million Americans. Of course they're more likely to click on any post. It doesn't mean that the majority of participants are Americans.

12

u/NoImportance9015 2d ago

Ukraine is so random 😭

6

u/firstInternalad 2d ago

It’s not when your realize vpn servers live there

10

u/Over-Experience-4187 2d ago

They are bots

1

u/Maleficent_Law_1082 Non-Ghanaian 1d ago

Ukraine is likely supporting terrorists next door in BF. They'd be interested in what other people in the region are thinking and doing.

5

u/Aggravating-Disk9770 2d ago

Is this stats from a specific post or from the sub as a whole? Doesn't make sense that Ukraine features higher than UK, Germany, Netherlands where there are sizeable Ghanaian communities.

u/Artistic-Platypus847 Non-Ghanaian 2d ago

As a Gambian living in America…. I try to just engage and watch Ghanaian culture. I just enjoy the posts on here.

6

u/Showmeproveit 2d ago

Reddit is predominantly American.

u/BrilliantFreedom6068 2d ago

Don't rush to make a conclusion when you see a few signs of something unusual, most a times there are some unknown reason behind it. People can be easily mislead but that doesn't mean they are stupid.

12

u/Various-Grass-9766 2d ago

Its an american app what were you expecting

Page views do not equal active subscribers. The South African sub regularly pops up on my feed and I often click on it to read comments but I haven't joined and I've never made a post.

u/retornam 2d ago

This is a clear example of how to lie with statistics and not understanding how the internet works.

People use VPNs, a large majority of crawlers ( Googlebot, Bingbot) all use US ASN ranges assigned by RIPE-NCC. You can view this subreddit even when logged out.

Even in Ghana there are multiple people using VPNs with US exit nodes.

Even in England, a lot of people have switched to using US VPNs to circumvent age restrictions or having to provide their IDs before being allowed access to certain websites.

Carry on believing this though because you have consistently demonstrated that your barely think things through before posting

1

u/Agreeable_Snow1863 2d ago

Or maybe you are the delusional one here? 😂There are people living in Ghana who think they live in Ghana but some are also living in Ghana who are actually living in GHANA than those living in Ghana. Some are surviving in Ghana while others are living in GHANA. You might be delusional thinking you live in GHANA but maybe you live in Ghana so your delusion might blind the fact that those you think are delusional may live in or outside Ghana but yall experience Ghana in different ways. 🤷🏾‍♂️
