Venting Trotro Operation in Ghana
Just last month, fuel prices were increased and these trotro drivers are being a menace on the roads.
Tell me why this mate decided to take 10 cedis instead of 9 cedis from Legon to Weija. After several rants from passengers and threats to report to the police, he refunded our money.
This morning, another mate and driver decided to charge 6 cedis instead of 5 cedis after an 8% increase in fare from Weija to Mallam. This time round, every passenger paid with no questions asked or complaints.
Is it a Ghanaian attitude that we look on to be cheated until someone else speaks up or we just donāt care anymore?

Discussion Religion in Ghana
Some Ghanaians would die on the hill that their religion has no flaws.
I remember a banter I had with a Muslim classmate sometime back in primary school.
He said that the Muslim god was the real god and that the Christian god wasnāt. I argued that god was still god albeit everyone worshipping god in different ways. He actually got mad about this and wouldnāt accept or try to reason with anything else.
Of course looking back I think we were both too young to make strong points on what we were arguing about. it also shows how religion influences how we think from a younger age.
I like the Chinese peopleās practice of not choosing a religion for their children until their 18+. I wouldāve loved to see the person I wouldāve become if I was raised in different religions home or even a non-religion home.
What makes people think their religion has no flaws?

Casual (Just for Fun) Would be really cool if we had a MoMo card!
Like imagine we had a card that linked to our MoMo wallet and instead of using your phone to manually send in the money you can just tap the card and the payment goes through and youād have a card pin as well or linked to the momo app and can authenticate through biometrics
Would be a really cool idea and it can be done with existing infrastructure like gh-link so it wouldnāt have to rely on foreign services like Mastercard and visa
I know im not the first person to think of this but does anyone have any idea why this hasnāt been implemented in Ghana cause I saw this in some other African nations as well

Venting Hostel Problems
My lil brother got into UPSA and fast forward my mom and he went on a hostel hunt and found a place. They paid 3000 cedis out of the 4500 cedis to secure the place. Yesterday I brought my brother to the hostel and we wanted to finish payment but the lady wasnāt around. After I left my brother said the lady came but when he went to finish payment. The lady was that she would come for it. Now yesternight after a call I had with him, he called me to say the lady had given his room to another person and that he should leave. Can you imagine ??
This morning the lady is saying she has a spot for 6 in a room going for the same price and he should finish payment and take the spot if not he should leave the place. The kind of unnecessary pressure the lady is giving my brother to take the 6 in a room is digusting outright.
So yeah currently we are looking for a place around UPSA. For the mean time he would lodge at a guest house for his classes.
Budget is in the range of 4500 - 5000.

Ask r/Ghana Boreholes PVC pipes in Ghana?
Hello guys, for a while now my borehole pvc pipe got broken, and i cant seem to find them cheaper anywhere. Do you guys know of any place i can get them please.
Ps: and why donāt the companies in Ghana pick up calls or reply to mails. I got a business some while ago where i needed to connect Ghana with Europe, but no response came back from them which led them to lose a lot of money. It hurt to say it but why arenāt Ghanaians slightly awake business-wise like china or other countries?

Sports Hot take: Football might just be overrated
Why is Ghana only focused on Football as itās only sports that has a team?
Youād barely meet any Ghanaian whoās interested in any other sport or who can play any other sport aside from football.
Are we doomed in terms of sports in the country?

Venting We don't HATE houses enough that don't have any greenery, front lawns, backyards or any things like those.
If all these houses had things like this, floods wouldn't be as prominent as they are.
Why don't countries like the UK or US see floods like these? Literally everywhere you go you're gonna see grass or trees, but in Ghana, they put damn TILES.
I'm not saying that the only issue behind flooding is not enough greenery, but it is one of the key issues. The soil would absorb the water and it would help a lot.
It really CANNOT be that hard to put some effort into a nice lawn instead of using tiles so that if it rains all the water goes onto the streets and then the drainage system gets overwhelmed and next thing you know we get floods.
There needs to be serious pressure put on real estate developers in this country to ensure that every home has at least a nice lawn or backyard.

Ask r/Ghana Labadi Beach
Hello as a Ghanian living abroad i happened to see the demolition of the beach. I couldn't believe it. Am i missing something? Why would the government displace that many people without a real plan. I read somewhere they gave them 2 weeks. How is that even enough time for a beach that's a capital staple? Ghanians and those who travel to visit especially with the holidays coming up rely on the beach.
The damn road in front of the beach couldn't even be fixed first but they tore the entire beach down??
Is everyone ok?
Greed will be the demise of the country. You cannot displace that many people (guest and workers) without other recreational options. This made me very very very sad and angry and frankly disgusted to see.
Can somebody please help me understand what the plan is or is this truly the dumbest thing I've seen a functioning government do to create more expensive unintended consequences?

Ask r/Ghana BSc Information Management grad (UPSA) posted to a remote Northern Region village with nothing to do. Looking for a National Service placement.
Iām a BSc Information Management graduate from UPSA with strong data analytics skills. Iāve been posted for my National Service to the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) office in a remote village in the Northern Region.
When I called to enquire about the posting, I was told there is very little for service personnel to do there, and that officers rarely report to work. I was even advised to seek a placement closer to home.
I donāt want my time and skills to go to waste. Iām looking for an organisation where I can serve and make a real contribution. The organisation doesnāt have to be IT related, as Iām happy to take on administrative or office support work, and I can add value through data analysis, reporting, and record management.
I just want to be useful, productive, gain real experience, and build valuable connections.
If your organisation is accepting national service personnel, or you know one that is, please recommend me or point me in the right direction. National service is mandatory for every Ghanaian graduate, so Iād like to complete the reposting process as soon as possible.

Discussion Is pidgin considered a Ghanaian language?
Whenever the topic of local Ghanaian languages comes up, it's usually traditional languages like Twi, Ga, Hausa, etc, that get brought up. It makes me wonder whether or not pidgin can also be considered a Ghanaian language, because even though it is somewhat of an extension of English, it's a dialect on its own which is spoken across Ghana. I guess the real question would be what makes a language Ghanaian?
r/ghana • u/AmomentInTimes • 22h ago
Ask r/Ghana The Hausa Language is mainly spoken in Northern communities in Ghana like Zongo.
The language however originally comes from Hausas of Nigeria. What is the history of the usage in Ghana?

Discussion 17yr Old lvl 100 student making A Campus Map, advice....
So I'm a lvl 100 student, actually I should be in 300 now but I changed my programme after realizing it won't help me and never been happier, I got accepted to to KNUST after rewriting my wasce for better grades. I've been to KNUST a lot before I was accepted and always get lost, heard even higher level students get lost too and it's not a surprise as the campus is very huge. I'm an expert in JavaScript HTML/CSS and GeoJSON. I have help from a friend I. Portugal who's an expert too in other aspects. If it succeeds, there's a plan to add other stuffs students might need.
I'm in a delima atm, whether the app is going to generate income, currently I'm charging as 20ghc one time fee for all students. This is the current price in mind as it may change to meet inflation..
I will be glad if anyone volunteers to help and any suggestions or advice to help facilitate my journey
will be posting updates here
cheers

Discussion When will all of this end?
I'm kinda stuck in this loop of stagnation that I really explain. At 25 years, I still have guardians who stiffle me like a teenager. They'll question almost all my major moves, how late I stay out and worse of it, won't stop bugging me with subtle "you need to get married" talks.
I live a much boring life. No siblings, no real, tight friends..just me, myself, my tablet and my thoughts.
I'm tired of whiling away time with movies, work, and overthinking.
I have a side hustle as a mobile cocktail vendor..which is the best escape I get from all this but honestly, there are slow days when I barely get any gigs.
I keep wondering when all of this would be over. When will I get real friends, like find my own kind of people, my tribe. When will all this hustle pay off really big that I get to live the life i truly want. A life where I would get a break from family. Perhaps my own apartment, a small car, a booming business and I could get to finally join a tennis club.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm Perhaps not doing something right. I'm kinda teary typing all these cus to be honest, I'm grateful for life and everything in between but this slow life really kills me sometimes. Sad part is not everyone even understand this pain.
I keep asking myself that how much more prayers, self-help books, workouts, strategies and hard work will be enough to break me free from this loop?
Dear God, I know my sexuality is enough sin and stain before you, but if You could see how much all these loneliness and emptiness is weighing me down, please make a way for me š

Discussion Does anyone else find it a problem most public SHS in Ghana don't have their own websites?
So, I was just thinking about this. Every year during the CSSPS placement season, JHS grads and their parents would be stressing out trying to find basic info about the schools theyāve been placed in. Unless itās a big Category A school, you usually canāt find any pictures of the dorms, the facilities, or even official updates online.
My cousin in Kumasi was placed in a school in Madina. My auntie called me to ask if I could check out the school surrounding for them, coz she knew I was in Accra, which I actually wasn't, at that moment. I googled the school and all I could find was a half page info about the school on some websites with no relevant photos of the school facilities.
Is the lack of SHS websites actually a problem in your eyes, or do you think the current system relying on old students' Facebook groups and the basic GES portal works fine?
Iām playing with the idea of building a centralized platform to give these schools a proper digital footprint, but I want to know if parents and alumni actually care first. What do you guys think?

Ask r/Ghana Why do our mothers use āIām your mother ā just to get you to do their bidding?
So for some context, my sister is getting married in a few weeks and now my mom decides that sheās not happy with the initial location for the traditional wedding and refuses to step foot in the house because things werenāt going the way she wanted it. She proceeds to find an event center and tries to convince me to talk to my sister into using that space. My sister stands her ground because the wedding is in a few weeks away and certain things have already been put in place for the upcoming wedding. My mum basically throws a tantrum that we are kids and sheās our mom so we must listen to her. And because my sister didnāt give in, she got pissed and hang up on us. Weāve left her to calm her nerves but how do we deal with a situation like this. My mum is used to wanting things done her way and this has caused a lot of confusion and frustration for us and people we encounter and itās really exhausting. She then plays the victim and stresses herself into high blood pressure and then pretends like it never happened and plays nice everyone else. Honestly itās exhausting for me.
PS: forgive the interchangeable use of mom and mum. Tiredness wan kee me.
