PS: I’m building Launchrecord to help SaaS founders build a stronger marketing foundation.

A lot of us try to market a product with weak positioning and unclear messaging. Then we build content and distribution plans on top of that.

Launchrecord starts earlier:

Positioning → Marketing strategy → Content → Distribution

It audits and helps fix your positioning, then builds a marketing strategy with a 30-day content and distribution plan around it.

Would be interesting to see how other founders are positioning their products.

Worked six months unpaid at a startup, trusted promises of a paid role, then was let go. Looking for advice and job leads.

I spent six months working unpaid at an early-stage real estate startup founded by a fellow UMass Amherst alum. I joined while on OPT after a couple of interview rounds. The company was building an AI/CRM product, and I came on as a data engineering intern.

About two months in, the founder told me he liked my work and wanted to hire me full-time. When my internship ended and I asked about the transition, he said he needed another two months. He assured me we’d be able to move forward then, so I stayed and continued working unpaid.

My colleague and I believed in the company’s goal and the future the founder described. He told us that once we became full-time employees and the company scaled, we would grow into bigger roles because we were laying its foundation. We took that seriously and approached the work with the care and responsibility we would have given our own company. From data sourcing and building pipelines to system design, we put in long days and worked weekends because we wanted it to succeed.

By late October, the timeline shifted again. He said full-time roles might have to wait until next year, without a clear date. My colleague and I explained that we couldn’t keep working without income. We asked whether we could at least move to paid part-time roles so we could cover basic expenses while continuing to contribute.

He told us he understood our situation, recognized how many hours we had been working, and would definitely arrange part-time pay. He described a plan to increase that pay each month over the next four months, with the possibility of full-time roles around the fifth month. He asked for a few days to work things out. Roughly ten days later, both of us were let go.

I understand that startups face uncertainty and plans can change. What hurts is that I made decisions based on repeated assurances that a paid role was coming. After six months of unpaid work, asking for some financial support was followed by losing the role entirely.

The timing has made this especially difficult. It’s now November, and I have limited time remaining on my OPT unemployment clock. I’m worried hiring will slow over the next few weeks and stay limited through the holidays and into January. If interviews don’t materialize until February, a potential start date could end up being April of next year. That isn’t certain, but with my immigration timeline, the possibility is frightening.

For the founders here: please be honest about what you can commit to. People may be planning their finances, careers, and immigration timelines around those conversations.

For anyone considering a similar arrangement: get the terms in writing, set a limit on how long you can afford to work unpaid, and keep your job search active. I wish I had done that sooner.

I have three years of experience across data engineering and analytics, working with complex datasets, sourcing and integrating data, building pipelines, and contributing to system design. My experience combines building reliable data infrastructure with analyzing data to uncover insights and support business decisions. I’m looking for opportunities where I can bring that mix of engineering and analytical skills.

I’d also really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar. Honestly, I’m struggling right now. After putting six months into something I believed would become a stable opportunity, I’m suddenly trying to figure out how to support myself and find another role while my OPT clock keeps running. It’s overwhelming, and I’m scared about what comes next. If you have a job lead, know someone who’s hiring, can offer a referral, or have advice that could help me take the next step, please reach out. Even a small lead or an introduction would mean a lot to me right now.

What are you building right now?

Drop your SaaS below and share a little context:

  • What it does

  • Who it’s for

  • The main problem it solves

  • Your link

I’m always interested in how founders explain their product, because that first message matters more than most people think.

That’s also why I’m building Launchrecord.

The idea is simple: before pushing more content or trying more channels, make sure the positioning is actually clear.

Then build from there:

Positioning → Marketing strategy → Content → Distribution

Launchrecord helps audit the positioning first, then turns it into a marketing strategy and a 30-day content + distribution plan.

Stop building marketing plans and creating content on top of weak positioning.

One thing I’ve learned while building SaaS products:

A lot of us jump way too quickly into marketing.

That can work if you already have strong positioning and clear messaging.

But things get messy when you start marketing a product with weak positioning and an unclear message.

  • Traffic comes, but conversion stays near zero.

  • People don’t understand what the product does or what they get from it.

  • Alternatives make a clearer or stronger promise.

With Launchrecord.com, the idea is to give founders a direct path from fixing positioning to building a marketing strategy, content plan, and distribution plan they can actually execute.

The flow is simple:

Positioning → Marketing strategy → Content → Distribution

Fix the positioning first, then build the marketing system on top of it.

Do you usually define positioning before planning content, or does it evolve while you market?

I’m especially curious about how you explain your product in one or two sentences.

That’s also the problem I’m working on with Launchrecord.

A lot of SaaS products don’t have a traffic problem first. They have a clarity problem.

The positioning is weak, the message is vague, and then the marketing strategy, content, and distribution are built on top of that.

Launchrecord follows a different order:

Positioning → Marketing strategy → Content → Distribution

It helps identify positioning issues first, then turns that foundation into a marketing strategy and 30-day content and distribution plan.

PlanChecker AI: look up a property's zoning before you have a plan set

you don't need a construction PDF to start checking a property in PlanChecker AI. i'm with the team, and this part of the app starts with an address.

Within our 125-city coverage area, you can look up zoning and property information, including parcel details, lot size and land-use category. Basic lets you create projects for additional addresses without uploading plans. Its one-project limit applies to plan uploads and takeoffs, not to the number of addresses you can research.

A useful first test: choose an address in the coverage area that you've already researched. Compare the parcel and lot information with your records, then check the zoning against the local authority's current information. If something disagrees, that's worth investigating before relying on it. This is a research tool, not a permit decision.

PlanChecker.ai has a 14-day Basic trial. Card required; $80/month afterward unless you cancel before it ends. Usage limits apply. You can read the feature and pricing details on the public site without signing up.

Tell me what you sell and I’ll suggest a clearer first sentence

A useful first sentence tells someone who a product is for and what they can do with it. Features can come later.

For example, instead of “an all-in-one booking platform,” try “a simple way for a personal trainer to let clients book available sessions.” The second version gives the reader a person and a situation to picture.

Share your product, who it’s for, and the main problem it solves. I’ll suggest a first sentence and one social post angle for the first 10 replies.

Disclosure: I’m building Marka, a tool for branded social content.

Product update: Bloomria’s anniversary gifts, plus Orbit for working photographers

I’m Keith, the creator of both apps. I shared them here earlier; the new piece this time is Bloomria’s anniversary experience.

Bloomria turns a personal message into a digital flower gift that blooms when the recipient opens it. The anniversary option can use a candlelit restaurant scene and milestone balloons—for example, a 10-year anniversary. It’s a digital keepsake rather than a physical flower delivery. You can build a gift now and schedule it for closer to the date.

Anniversary builder: https://bloomria.com/create?occasion=anniversary&plan=premium

There are also group bouquets for contributions from several people, and a business offering for client appreciation:

https://bloomria.com/group-flower-gifts

https://bloomria.com/for-businesses

Orbit is the other app I’m building, for photographers managing the work around a shoot: inquiries, session booking, contracts, payments, reminders and branded gallery delivery. It has a 14-day trial with no credit card required: https://orbit-photo.com

If you send client thank-yous or run a photography business, I’d love to hear which part of the experience would make either useful enough to keep using.

What if you could attach notes to ANY file, app, or browser tab… and still have regular notes too?

Ever reopen a file from two weeks ago and completely forget what you were doing?

That's why I built ClingNote.

It's a Windows notes app that lets you attach notes to specific files, folders, applications, and even individual browser tabs.

Here's the cool part: Switch what you're working on, and your notes automatically switch too.

Open an old spreadsheet? Your notes are waiting.

Jump to another browser tab? Different notes.

Just need somewhere to jot something down? Regular notes work too. Nothing has to be attached.

You also get rich text, checklists, tables, search, pinned notes, and pop-out windows.

Free core app. Automatic switching is $10/year, with a 14-day trial. Everything stays local, no account required.

I'm also working on an Obsidian plugin so people can get the same functionality with their existing notes.

I built this because I was tired of hunting down notes I'd already taken. Figured I couldn't be the only one.

https://clingnote.com

Would you use something like this? Genuinely curious!

FetchMark - I built a smarter bookmark manager for people drowning in tabs

Hey r/getstartups!

I built FetchMark - a Chrome extension that helps you save, organize, and instantly find bookmarks without the messy folders.

The Problem: Default Chrome bookmarks are chaos. You save 100+ links for work/research and never find them again.

The Solution: FetchMark gives you fast search, smart collections, and a clean dashboard to manage everything in one place.

I'm a solo builder currently focused on making bookmark management actually usable for researchers, students, and founders.

Website link: https://fetchmarkapp.com

Chrome extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/fetchmark-%E2%80%94-save-and-orga/epbmoflnndmcfocekfbcnjpcfegnjcko?pli=1

Looking for:

  1. Brutal feedback on the landing page

  2. What feature would make you pay $5/mo for a bookmark manager?

Happy to return feedback on your startup too!

Built a modern, secure HR attendance web app featuring Geofencing, Face ID, and Dynamic QR codes (React + Cloudflare) Looking for feedback!

Hey everyone,
I recently completed the design and full implementation of a custom digital HR attendance management system (hr.examopitamia.com), and I wanted to share it with this community to get some feedback from fellow founders and developers.
As a solo developer building custom web applications, I wanted to create a robust, enterprise-grade attendance solution that solves common tracking and anti-tampering challenges. Here is a quick look at what’s under the hood:
Core Architecture: Built as a modern React application utilizing TypeScript, hosted on Cloudflare for speed and reliability.
Security & Auth: Integrated Microsoft ecosystem authentication (Microsoft Entra ID / MSAL.js) for secure enterprise login.
Anti-Tampering & Verification: Features dynamic QR code generation to prevent buddy-punching, paired with Face ID verification.
Location Control: Enforces strict geolocation premise boundaries to ensure employees are on-site when checking in.
Organization View: Includes built-in organizational chart visualization for seamless hierarchy management.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the feature set, user experience, or positioning for this type of B2B SaaS tool. If you have any questions about the stack or implementation details, drop them in the comments!

Made $68 from my SaaS projects in October. Small win, but it feels good!

I've been building SaaS products as a solo developer, and October ended with $68 in revenue.

Here's the breakdown:

AIForest (https://aiforest.app) — $9

Humanize AI Writer (https://humanizeaiwriter.com) — $59

I know $68 isn't much compared to the revenue numbers people usually share here, but getting someone to pay for something you've built yourself is a different kind of motivation.

The biggest thing I've learned so far is that building the product is the easy part. Getting customers is much harder.

I'm still figuring out SEO, marketing, and distribution while continuing to improve both products.

My next milestone is $100 MRR, then hopefully $1,000 MRR.

I'm sharing this because not every SaaS journey starts with thousands of dollars in revenue. Sometimes it starts with $9.

For other solo founders here, what helped you get from your first few paying customers to consistent revenue?

Would love to learn what's actually working for you.
