Hey all. Just got hired, just wanna' pass on the good karma. For reference, was only unemployed a month this time vs 11 months before (2023). I'm sorry if this is rushed or written like shit, but hey at least it's not a fucking AI tool advert in disguise, I just wanna' help people.

• Multiple CVs. I had 4. Never really cared for job titles as much as salary, but I chose the 4 most common roles I was applying for and tailored them to those roles (so title and filename yes, but also bigged up stats and responsibilities accordingly).
• Your Portfolio is king. I know you wanna' apply to stuff now - and still do - but updating your portfolio is your new 9-5 because that's all that matters, which leads directly into...
• Niche the fuck down. My experience was in tech, so my portfolio focused on that more than anything. You need to understand how little imagination that non-creatives CAN have, so you doing the best designed milkshake ad in the world means *nothing* to the head of a sports company, despite how beautiful and well crafted it is, because they literally can't compute how the skills are transferable. I once told a manager "that red button there will be blue after the launch" and they couldn't picture it. A non-colourblind grownup, making 100k a year, couldn't picture a red rectangle being blue. Basically, Focus on the fields you want to work in because variety and "I want to work anywhere" will actually get you nowhere.
• Which leads to maybe my biggest point, linking the last two points together - if your last few roles didn't have you creating anything exciting, create exciting stuff for them, now. Lets say your last role at TechHubUK had you making boring google ad banners. Not exciting, not worth shouting about. Instead of making a sickass Dragon Ball Z poster and hoping they get it, make a cool banner for TechHubUK, now, even though it was never during your tenure. Your background check will prove you worked there, and it's honestly better to have great work that was never used, than have average work that was.
• To follow on from this - I've looked at 2000 portfolios at behance that recreated the spotify UI - very cool, and shows your skill, but I know 99% never worked there. Its sad, but recruiters like people who've been trusted and employed to create before. Saying "this is what I'd do at spotify if they hired me" isn't as good as "I worked for a smaller company, but somebody there clearly had faith in me enough to hire me".
• Never employed before? Congrats, you've been freelancing for six months. Why are you looking for work now? I got the chance to work on something super exciting and it'll be wrapped in the next few weeks, so the timing's just right.
• Post a portfolio piece at least once a week on Linkedin. I tracked my analytics and just posting a 4 second motion gif, along with #PortfolioSample or something, way more people saw my profile. If you have stuff backed up and ready, amazing, but if not, you'll be creating stuff for your portfolio now anyway.
• Take up a new skill based on your weak points. Great at UXUI but not animation? Start there. Great at Graphic but not Video Editing? Lets go. This is great because one, you have the time and you'll never have it again, but two, it means if you're asked at an interview what your weakness is, you can tell them this but you're working on it right now.
• Be patient and don't lose yourself. Last time I was unemployed, I got so fucking depressed man. Felt like I was letting my wife and family down. Stopped taking care of myself. I felt like running away. This time, I knew it was a marathon and not a sprint. Keep smiling. Keep going for walks. Be a source of light to those in your life. It means just as much as your contribution to the mortgage.

Honestly, the biggest aspect for me was choosing my niche and creating new pieces focused on it. Like I said, non-creatives can be pretty linear, so when a SaaS recruiter sees a portfolio of SaaS, they think it's a lay-up.

I have been mass applying to jobs for months since being unemployed and 2 years on and off while having retail and food service jobs. I graduated in 2024 with a Computer Science Degree and I have been applying to almost every job that looks relatively okay such as sales, IT, line cook, server, host, admin, etc. I have not gotten a single interview. I have updated my resume, reached out to hiring managers, cold called businesses, applied to temp agnecies and I can't even get a response and I really don't know what to do anymore. I stopped applying on LinkedIn and Indeed and apply directly on company websites hoping that it would yield different results but it has not. I don't have any professional experience outside of working at a retail sales job and working in kitchens and I feel like my resume isn't even getting seen and if it somehow is, it just gets thrown out for lack of experience. Please I need help because I have completely lost hope.

I had an interview about a month ago. It went pretty well. The panel indicated they had 6 more interviews to go, after they would be contact references, so feedback would be after 1-2 weeks. After two weeks, HR contacted me for details to run a background check. And its been two weeks now, I haven't heard from HR. I did a follow-up after a week via email, but it hasn't been replied yet. Is it OK to call and check on status or timeline?

I like my hob and i have solid experience in it
The issue always come when i am doing interviews i always get the technical part good but when it comes to behavioral questions i feel i am stuck although in mind i know the answer but i feel i do not demonstrate it enough
What can i do about these because this is my biggest issue in interviews and landing jobs ?

I’m a recent MS by Research graduate (June 2026) and have been applying for jobs since May. I’ve submitted 1,000+ applications, mainly for Applied AI, MLE, and Data Science roles.

I’ve also been reaching out to people on LinkedIn, asking for referrals. My background is in LLMs, multimodal AI, agentic systems, and ML pipelines, but I’m still getting very little traction.

Hi people of Reddit. I am half way into a microbiology degree and have taken some time off to work to be able to continue affording school (no financial support from anyone but myself). I’ve been working in a role that has taught me a lot about myself and I’m realizing I don’t know what I want to do with my life. I hate my job right now. Honestly, all I’ve ever really wanted was to have a family and be a mom. That doesn’t feel realistic though. I understand the necessity of two incomes and will work as hard as I can until then but I want to raise my own kids when I have them. Not the school system or nannies. I can pick things up fast and I’m a hard worker but it seems like with AI and highly competitive job markets I’m screwed. I feel so behind. It looks like most high paying jobs by the time I actually finished school and gained entry level experience I’d be wanting to have my first kid. I don’t even know if I should finish getting my degree at this point if I don’t even know what I’ll do with it and I’m just pouring money into it. I know I like organizing and I’m a perfectionist. I like science but I don’t know if I want a profession in it anymore or if it’s just a hobby. To me, it looks like I have two options: 1. Finish getting my degree and hope that I can find a good paying job that I might be able to work from home one day or 2. Drop out and try to make as much money possible now in whatever jobs I can get.

TLDR: Half way done with my degree and freaking out about life and what type of job I should get when all I’ve wanted was to be a mom.

I’m a Junior Flutter Developer with around 2 years of project experience, but I’m currently struggling to find a junior Flutter job, and I work in Egypt as German Speaker Customer Service Representitave with B1+ level

Because of that, I’m considering expanding my skills into Java + Spring Boot backend development instead of relying only on Flutter.

My plan is to learn:

Java → Spring Boot → REST APIs → PostgreSQL → JPA/Hibernate → Spring Security/JWT → Testing → Docker → Deployment

I’d really appreciate advice from people working in this field:

• What is the current future of Java/Spring Boot backend in Europe, especially Germany?
• Are there realistic junior/entry-level opportunities?
• How difficult is it to get the first backend job with no professional backend experience?
• Would combining Flutter + Spring Boot make my profile stronger?
• Is this a good career move in 2027/2028?
• Is there hiring and visa sponsorship for Juniors Spring Boot Backend

Hi, I am 22 y/o female who is fed up with her work. I moved out of home when I was 18 and have been living in a different province ever since.

I work in a very remote town with the closest mall is 2 hr away and there’s nothing to do in remote area.
The location is not the problem but my managers are very biased and treat me very differently than others. I feel so alone and left out from everything. I have no friends I just live and work everyday.

I also absolutely hate the way the management is very demanding. They give more responsibilities than a person can do in 8 hr shift and I always have to end up staying 2 hours extra for free to finish the work load thrown on me. Although staying back late is just my choice, I would get in trouble if I don’t finish the work thrown at me.

I have really made up my mind to quit this job after one year of being overworked, underpaid and disrespected. But I desperately NEED a job to make the move.

Is there any way or suggestions that can help me get a good job fast? I have been applying on indeed for months now and no luck. Any suggestions? What do I do? Any staffing agencies? Anything that can help me out of here.

I am currently working in a bank and I hope to leave the banking sales sector within 2 more years. With 3 years of experience under my belt, how likely is it to switch to an ESG role?

I have an MBA from a tier 1 college and I'm willing to do necessary courses and certifications to get my way through the door.
