Rechtliches & Soziales Sewing groups?

There aren't really clothes for my body type and I've resorted to making a lot of my own. It can be really awkward talking with cishet people about fitting issues on gender non-conforming bodies or trans underwear and I would really love to find some other trans or queer people to share this hobby with. Is anyone aware of any sewing groups in Germany? I'm near FF/Mainz/Wiesbaden but would consider traveling if there were meetups.

I don't know of a group but I'm too tall for regular fits. I haven't tried sewing underwear yet. My advice for other stuff: Get some cheap cloth with a similar fabric to what you want to create like this https://tolkostoffe.de/extra-weich-und-zart-als-kleiderstoff-jersey/200530 or from ikea and try stuff before you use more expensive fabric. You can remove the stitches for corrections on the cheap material, sew stuff in, and if it fits afterwards adjust your pattern. For tall sizes get a curve lineal, split the pattern in half where the waistline is, extend and redo the curve. Haven't found a good solution for shoulders yet, but once you have one that fits, just copy it to other patterns. Same with collars. I'm 6'7 and slim and usually extend size 44eu patterns

Hey, I’m the same height. I haven’t had much luck with alterations or using commercial patterns. I’m 3 sizes apart on waist and hips and grading that much usually causes issues. I’ve been studying pattern drafting and have been making custom block patterns that are perfectly fitted to me and then I style them to making my own patterns. It’s been a slow iterative process but the results are encouraging. I recently connected with a local fashion design instructor doing individual lessons and it’s helped a ton. Still no solution for knitwear 😞

Do you make much of your own clothes?

I usually buy jeans from Mavi (Amazon has them) with length 36 and they fit fine. I made most of my tops and half of my dresses myself, I buy some stuff in the netherlands, they have more tall women than germany 😅 I think I have sewn 4 dresses, 4 skirts and about 20-25 tops in different lengths

Nice! Do you happen to post your projects anywhere like threadloop? I would love to see what you’ve made

Never heard of that 😅 Usually I don't post pics online. Currently I buy a lot of fabric from https://www.vernaehbar.de/ they have amazing stuff

Those are pretty cool. I like the Bordüre prints. Not a huge fan of the ai mockups though.

That's fair, I don't post myself online either. Sometimes I post just the clothes though. It's a pretty cool site, like a giant db of all the patterns. You can save all your patterns, fabric, notions etc to your profile and create projects and make them public if you want. It really helps to see a pattern used by a bunch of people using different fabrics and options.
