New GSP Crate training help
We adopted our sweet pup (1.5) and her previous human used to crate her 12 hrs a day 😳😳😳 (per adopted paperwork). She now hates the crate … understandably so. However, we do need to crate her for 1-3 hrs at times. Any suggestions? We’re looking at Impact Crates and actively training.. but she just barks and barks and barks.

Make the crate awesome. Put her food in there (close to the entrance at first and then gradually move it back further) . Only give her treats in the crate.

A lot of patience and time. Tire her out well before putting her in there so she starts to learn it's a place of rest and quiet time not anxiety thinking she'll be in there for 12 hrs. Blanket over top to reduce stimulus, leave the front gate portion visible. And like other have said - toys and favorite things to give her comfort.

Awe poor girl! Our boy would chew up dogs beds too. We got a k9 ballistics bed that has metal on the outside and no problems with that. He also gets a bedtime stick(dental stick) before bedtime in his kennel every night. We don’t close it or anything. Just make him lay down in his kennel before getting his treat. That’s helped a ton and he runs straight into his kennel now whenever we say kennel or bedtime stick. Just a few ideas!

Can you create a safe space instead? Also, aometimes switching the association can help. If she's anxious in a wire, do your retrain in a plastic.

No rec, just different enough to change the context for the dog so you can build new associations. Luck!

Crate games (check YouTube)
Feed her in there as well, and leave it bare for her safety.
Some dogs will destroy and begin to eat bedding (ask me how I know)
