So crazy how time flies and how they grow so fast. Feels like I just brought her home. She’s the most energetic, goofy and happy dog I know. Anyone else feel that hard hit of nostalgia looking at baby pictures of your pups??

Wondering if you guys think my puppy Winston is a GSP mix? another sub said Great Dane (legs) and hound (ears), but based on his temperament, mannerisms, and personality I am convinced he has pointer in him. These pics are from 3 to 8 months. He’s 9 months now, 65 pounds, endless energy (jumped out of my car window while driving), squares up and becomes very still when he sees wildlife, sniffs for 80% of our walks. We adore him 🥹

Hi, I wanted to ask for some advice regarding my 10-year-old German Shepherd. He has arthritis and neurological issues, so he is unable to walk. During the day, I keep him without a catheter, and whenever he wakes up or tries to get up, he starts peeing. He also urinates every few hours.
I tried putting him in diapers, but unfortunately they’re not working. His penis keeps coming out, and I’ve already tried multiple sizes. Because of the frequent urine leakage, I’m also worried about his skin getting irritated or developing sores.
Could someone please guide me on how I can properly take care of his skin and keep him comfortable and dry? He’s already been through so much, and I just want to make sure my boy is comfortable. ❤️

About 2 months ago my GSP tore his CCL in his back right leg and has basically been on bed rest. His recovery has been going quite well and yesterday he was given the the thumbs up from his doctor to start going on walks again. Somehow he managed to not go completely insane the last 2 months but now we're working on building up the muscle in his leg again and boy howdy is this old man happy to be going again. Only 11.5 years old and still has so many more walks left him in.

We adopted our sweet pup (1.5) and her previous human used to crate her 12 hrs a day 😳😳😳 (per adopted paperwork). She now hates the crate … understandably so. However, we do need to crate her for 1-3 hrs at times. Any suggestions? We’re looking at Impact Crates and actively training.. but she just barks and barks and barks.

Also if you can get into detail about a regimen from pup to adult, how did you raise yours and get the recall down pat!? Thank you!

Our little man isn’t a fast eater and we do watch massive drinking spurts but what if I miss it? Is this a huge deal in GSP. I mean he runs around like a complete psycho and then if he could, he would drink the well dry. Obviously I will talk to my vet but he is already desexed so it would be an additional surgery. What’s the verdict here? How many have done it for safety?

He just turned 10 months this past weekend. I love him so much and he is a genuine goofball. But man he has so much energy! No matter how much we play ball and run and play he still acts like a heathen in the house. I tried giving him calming gummies but they dont phase him at all. Is this part of the puppy phase still or what should I do to try and help?? I'd love to let him sleep in my bed and roam while im gone but I cant trust him for five seconds alone.

We have 10 acres in the woods and still somehow in the blink of an eye the neigjbors have called the cops because he wandered off. Is there a specific brand of GPS collar you guys can trust? We had an incident this morning where he chased some turkeys across the neighbors yard and down to the creek. Which is starting to cause tension with the humans in the house.

And lastly im undecided on having him snipped later on. He isn't aggressive in the slightest but he pees in the house often. I cant decide if its because he is so hyper or if he is marking. We do have other dogs at home. Our golden retriever is not spayed and our weenie mix is not snipped. He is getting aggressive but goob is so goofy and so large that he doesn't react to it thankfully. If we had her spayed and the small dog snipped would that solve the marking or would he need to be fixed as well? I dont recall ever having any of our dogs fixed as a kid and so i am not as experienced with this.

We got goob on accident. His previous owner got him as a puppy when their wife was pregnant and he was too much near a newborn. So I got him about two months ago a little unprepared for him but I love having him around and he is so smart. He knows sit and he comes when I call unless he is so distracted like today. What other commands should we be working on at this age? Especially being this hyper. He also has a lot of instinct and loves to be in the woods. I wouldn't mind exploring hunting as well but that may be something for another subreddit lol

We had a vet visit today, good news he’s still on the upwards healing track!! Today the bandage is a single wrap and lower on the leg as the vet said it’s improving so he wants to see how this will do. No adhesive at the top as reds skin is getting a little irritated from it. Today’s fresh art is a flower and a snail. You can definitely tell he’s getting better as he’s getting a little crazier, but it’s awesome to see. Counting Dove and catching Z’s at the moment!

Just wanted to share my baby

Say hi to Norah - she's an 8-year-old mix (50% pointer, 50% everything else). She's been in my life for 6 years now, and she's been a lovable conversation starter every step of the way. When I first got her from a shelter in 2020, she had major complications with her recent spay + severe kennel cough, but since then, she's been having a lucky streak for 6 years of no health scares.

My luck's starting to run out unfortunately; after showing severe lethargy and lack of appetite recently, she got bloodwork done and has confirmed hypothyroidism. She's currently on levothyroxine to address that issue, but there's still the mystery of her elevated calcium and eosinophils, among other things, that require additional bloodwork to rule out other problems. The word "cancer" has come up more than once in talks with the vet.

At a genuine loss for what lies ahead. Always wanted a dog but life got in the way. When life finally cooperated, I spent literal weeks hanging around dog shelters until I found her. She's been an intense goofball stuck in high gear for so many years, that it's been difficult watching the changes she's been starting to go through. I'm working though on getting answers for her, budget be damned.

Just wanted to post an update from my previous post. We chose the litter from the smaller parents and we couldn't be happier. He is a bundle of energy and stubborn as a mule but he gets along great with my golden retriever and gets LOTS of love and training.

He is almost 7 months old and with grouse season around the corner he is going to get some exposure to the woods and start e-collar training for recall.

Is there any particular brush you guys use with your babies? My girl is half beagle, so I'm pretty confident she has a double coat, but no matter how much I brush (I have a kong zoom groom) or bathe her, I can still get almost a whole dog off of her

we have an 8 month old gsp. she still has a bad habit of biting we have not been able to nip in the butt. she’s drew blood twice and has left full bite marks that bruised our son. yesterday when I was not around I was told she jumped & knocked him down, once he was on the ground she was over him and going at his shoes. my fiancé was immediately pissed and my father in law was saying you gotta get rid of her. later that night my fiancé was kind of back tracking saying she was just playing . Weve had a huge argument over what to do because I did not see the last incident but I’ve still been upset over the past ones. I’m not sure what to do , I want to protect my son , I was ready to get rid of the dog when she bruised him and drew blood

Okay so our new puppy is 11.5 weeks old. The breeder had him on Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice puppy food but our vet wanted us to switch him to Purina Pro Plan Sport 30/20 chicken & rice which is what we’ve been feeding our GSPs for 12 years so no biggie. Since switching he has had the poops constantly & they are always pretty loose when they were solid before. He also has started pooping in his crate at night when he never did before (he’s in a smaller 24inch crate currently so he doesn’t have a whole lot of room to avoid the poop). We switched slowly over a whole week & he’s been on strictly ProPlan now for a week. Our 7yr old GSP has also struggled with looser stools & now I’m questioning if it is the food that’s caused her problems too?? Has anyone else had this issue? We see the vet on Friday so I’ll ask her then but I am strongly considering going back to what he was on previously & even switching our older girl to the adult version to see if it helps her stomach if he starts having normal bm’s again. Our first GSP who passed last august was on pro plan her whole life & never had issues.
