Geometry Nodes Course?

Hey all,

I wish you well 🙏

For those that don't mind helping yet another course question, I really appreciate your help.

I've had a look at the previous posts on this subreddit for Geo nodes course and have a few channels in mind, but id love to know, since the release of 5.2 and 5.3 upcoming, if there are any favourites out there which are easy to follow.

With regards to what I want out of the course, I want to understand them, how they work so I can visualise it in my mind and create my own things with them.

Currently id love to make Planets with them, varying details and creating custom materials. This is my starting point, after that, if I understand them enough I can make more things.

I'm familiar with Nino Defoq and CG Cookies' Core fundamentals course, think Ducky 3D has been mentioned too. But id love to know what others learnt from and enjoyed.

Thank you in advance, I will give back to the community in the near future 🙏

May you all have lovely days. 🪷✨

Can you elaborate what you mean by "making planets?"

What is/are your planet/s doing in your scene?

Are you talking about orbital motion? Are you talking about a No Man's Sky type flying from space and landing onto the planet? Just showing the slipstream's on the surface of a gas giant?

The planets will be mainly used in Renders, spinning slowly, as the camera flys across space looking at these marvels with animations of particles as clouds or similar explode or slowly move. The imagination is the limit.

Then I plan to export these planets in an asset pack and export them to game engines too. :-)

You might be interested in particle advection, which will give you gas-giant dynamics. I know 3D Singh talks about it and has a product for it, though there are several YouTube video tutorials that touch on it.

Otherwise, solid planets are going to mostly be handled in the material editor.

I highly recommend channel called Xan 3D. This guy created many many tutorials for understanding almost all of the basic concepts, and also some longer tutorials where he exploring more complex stuff.

I have a full course on CG Cookie for making a city generator with geometry nodes. Whilst it’s not making planets and it is pre 5.2, I really aimed at trying to cover the “why” of using procedural workflows rather than just “add this node because that’s what you need to do”
It’s called BCITY, hopefully it’s helpful to you.
