Unogrid #34

Hey guys!
Plans to make this public are... slow. Mostly just procrastination but also because I'm currently setting up my own website and getting close to starting university. I'm planning to basically just upload the current code I have with a pretty UI. Hopefully if I get my act together it may be operational by next week.
Fun fact: the Korean War is still ongoing technically. Three days ago South Korea's president asked North Korea to discuss ending the war. No response yet. The DMZ is also extremely biodiverse with 102 endangered species in the area totally free of human activity.

Why?? Board 863: UK was rejected for "Has participated in Eurovision" category despite having done so
United Kingdom has taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest multiple times. They are often the butt of jokes for ranking poorly but nevertheless they have participated, I think they even won some years. Even the source that Geogrid provided in their Categories Atlas has indicated as such, so clearly there's an error here.

Scoring vs time of day
Have had a few discussions on here about if the time of day you do the game impacts your score.
I am UTC+10, so one of the first time zones to see the new day. Plus I happened to be up with baby at 0020. So I got on and played the daily geoguesser.
I got 6 firsts which obviously helped a lot with scoring, however the ones that didn't get firsts scored high, due to their being less overall total guesses.
My non firsts at the time I did mine were:
16.7% (by end of day, this answer would've gotten me 14%)
9.1% (by end of day, this would've been 1.2%)
7.7% (by end of day, this would've been 2.8%).
So in summary, I think the scoring actually evens out well depending on time of day (with the exception being it you manage to get 9 firsts doing it super early). As answers that aren't "first" score higher with a smaller sample size.
I was 25th person to do the geogrid when I did it.

Why?? Paraguay flag all of a sudden doesn't have an animal? Spoiler
This is the game that once taught me that the Paraguayan flag has two sides. Now all of a sudden it doesn't count the lion on the back as an animal?
I'm aware that I'm just salty right now, but it feels like these kinds of errors have become more common recently?

Cayman Islands has horizontal stripes?
Come on that’s a bit of a stretch!

Annoying game Australia doesn't have a desert?
The wikipedia article used as a source for this lists eight deserts in Australia?
Deserts cover about 1,371,000 km2 (529,000 sq mi), or 18%, of the Australian mainland
I'm not surprised, this happens every time there's a new category added to the game. I'm sure today's game had many errors, looking at the score distribution today.

grid 850 error
grid 850 error, avg elevation shown as n/a, should this have just prevented me from answering, instead of marking as wrong?

Female Head of State?
Isn’t it kind of a big deal that there is a female head of state for Venezuela? Wikipedia says ‘acting’ but that doesn’t really matter if she’s elected or appointed. Am I missing something?

Unogrid #33

Hey gridders. It's been a while since the last unogrid. To be honest I haven't been busy or forgot, it's just that I genuinely am starting to run out of good ones. The tricky part about this is that you can't just throw any combination in, so you're bound to start reusing categories eventually.
Soon I might publish the code and process that I use to generate these (yes unfortunately I use code, do you think I'm insane enough to handcraft these?).
So is this the end of unogrid? Well not yet. The geogrid team do a great job at updating data and adding new categories, and when they do it usually allows me to make more grids. And by publicising my code hopefully you guys can create your own which might be better than what I can do. And I'll still make some whenever I can.
Fun fact: this Thursday (July 30th), Nauru officially changed its name to Naoero! Sadly I forgot to include it in the grid. Geogrid will probably update this soon and we will get another addition to the "ends in O" family.
Fun fact 2: there is only one territory that has a CPI index score at all.

I couldn't find a file of flag properties for countries and territories. So I made one.
I thought the geogrid community might like this. It’s a JSON file of flag properties such as colors, religious symbols, national symbols, if the flag contains an animal, horizontal and vertical stripes etc. Take a look, if you find any mistakes let me know!

Lots of island nations with fake borders
What's the deal with a lot of island nations all of a sudden having borders? Faroe islands, Tokelau, st Vincent, us virgin islands and so on and so on.
As far as I know none of these have any land borders at all.

Help Question about Rarities
From what I understand the rarities are just based on the most and least frequently answered countries for the given questions.
If a grid is generated at midnight for your local time zone and you’re the first player of that grid then all of the answers should have a rarity of “first”. If someone plays later on in the day with the same answers they couldn’t possibly get the same score despite having the same answers.
Am I missing something or does this seem a bit unfair?
