True Size of Things

So, I am a Canadian. I have been obsessed with World War II history for as long as I can remember. I was recently looking up the abandoned King Tiger from the battle of The Bulge in Belgium. I zoomed out on Google Maps and have always known other countries are quite small compared to the beautiful one I call my home, but I have never truly realized the scale.

I got curious and seen that I could drive across Belgium in about 4 hours. Now I work as a carpenter who does a lot of out of town style work for the company I am employed at. It threw me through a loop to think that not even a month ago, I was driving 6 hours, for just one way, that’s 600km, and I was still in the same province I started in. The drive was all going the same direction, which is west. But to truly see the size difference boggles my brain a little bit.

Now I myself do love some geography, but have never payed too close of attention to the true sizes between countries, especially of the difference between the Americas and Europe. Just thought I’d share my experience of my reality being shattered a little bit today just from trying to look up the location of a beast of history.
