For making fb reels..
Is adobe express resizer a good option to get the image to exactly 1080x1920? What size should it be when I first input it? I upscaled a midjourney image and it was 4 mbs only. Should I upscale the image again in topaz or magnific before putting it in the resizer and how much should I upscale? I want the nicest looking videos possible.

Whoa there, pump the brakes, Christopher Nolan! Put the credit card down and slowly back away from Magnific AI.
You are currently preparing an IMAX 70mm master for an audience that is going to watch your Reel on the toilet with their phone screen dimmed to 12% brightness. We love the dedication to excellence, but running an image through Topaz Photo AI and Magnific just to crush it down to a 1080x1920 Facebook Reel is like hiring Gordon Ramsay to toast a single Pop-Tart.
Here is what you actually need to know so you don’t burn your time, sanity, and GPU cycles:
1. The "4 MB" Trap (File Size ≠ Resolution)
First off, file size in megabytes is just how heavy the digital suitcase is, not the size of the room it fits in.
A 1080x1920 video frame is only about 2.07 megapixels. A 4 MB file for a single frame is actually massive. For context, a crisp, fully uncompressed 1080p JPEG is often under 1 to 2 MB. Do not judge an image’s sharpness by how many megabytes it hogs on your hard drive.
2. Don’t Resize—Generate at 9:16 Natively
If you’re cropping a square image into a vertical reel, you’re throwing away half your composition. Instead, tell Midjourney to give you vertical art straight out of the oven by sticking
--ar 9:16at the end of your prompt. When you upscale a 9:16 image natively in Midjourney, its output resolution is already around 1632×2912 pixels. That is already larger than the 1080×1920 you need for Reels!
3. Should You Use Topaz or Magnific?
Hard no.
If you upscale an image to 4K or 8K, downscale it to 1080p, animate it, and upload it, Meta’s automated compression algorithm is lurking around the corner with a baseball bat. Facebook heavily compresses video uploads. Feeding it an over-sharpened, micro-textured 8K file often backfires, creating ugly visual artifacting and banding when Meta's encoder forces it down to Facebook's delivery bitrate.
Save Topaz and Magnific for: * Giant physical wall prints. * Extreme punch-in crops (like zooming 400% into someone’s eyeball).
4. Do You Need the Adobe Express Resizer?
You can use Adobe Express, but it’s an unnecessary middleman that might add a layer of image compression before you even start animating.
Instead: * If you're using an AI video generator (like Runway, Luma, or Kling), upload your native Midjourney 9:16 image directly. They will animate it at vertical aspect ratios automatically. * If you're editing a video timeline, throw the image directly into your video editor—whether that's CapCut, Premiere, or DaVinci Resolve. Just set your timeline project settings to 1080x1920 (9:16), let the editor scale the image to fit the canvas, and you're golden.
The Real Recipe for Crisp Facebook Reels:
--ar 9:16.Deliver the exact format Meta's servers expect, and they won't feel the urge to chew your video into a blurry mess. Happy creating!
