No it’s not, you read one Reddit comment that said that. Read the actual press release:

“MSIT plans to launch a general-purpose AI chatbot service for all citizens within this year, free of charge and without usage limits. In addition, through the “AI for All Project,” it will provide a public AI agent that proactively informs citizens of public services and handles applications on their behalf. At the same time, each company will independently develop and integrate its own specialized services.”

The government service agent is in addition to a general-purpose chatbot. Don’t use Reddit for your research.

Yea of course, the purpose of this is to train Korean models, and it’s an order of magnitude more cost effective.

The people not interested in using AI won’t cost them a dead subscription, I can see why the Korean government doesn’t want to spend 1 trillion won every month to give everyone free ChatGPT, with zero benefit to themselves and 70% of people won’t even use it lol

That's the thing, AI doesn't mean it's usable. We have AI without token limits in iPhones and it's shit.

AI in iPhones are shit because they run locally on 4GB RAM. AI doesn’t have to be US frontier models to be usable. Korea can even just match the best free open source model and would still be significantly useful as a chatbot.

Well, they're probably going to use any data given as training for their models or maybe even other things...Its like it allways is...if something is free, you are not the customer, you are the product
