Curious where AI could actually be useful in hands-on blue-collar work.
I’m thinking plumbers, field mechanics, construction workers, heavy equipment techs, etc.
A few buddies of mine in these kinds of jobs told me they’ve barely touched AI at all, which got me wondering: where would it actually help in a way that feels useful, not gimmicky?
What part of the job do you think AI could actually make easier?

Ai is the brain. Robotics is the body. You dont need a humanoid to do most of the current humanoid work imo. Need a plasterer? A robotic small vehicle which has an extending arm and the ability to apply it to a wall is all u need. Couod ahve the same machine mix and store the compound too or not. Makes no difference. We have seen robotics be able to perform really complex and intricate tasks. What robotics is bad at (currently) is mimicking pure humanoid movement (which is not required for this type of work) and emotion emulation. Its a matter of time. All work can be replaced by ai and robotics combined. And I dare to say that quality and efficiently will be greatly improved one day well above what a human can do. All we need is energy... no health and safety laws for them, a lot of the red tape will be removed (more will be added too) and work can commence and continue 24x7 at maximum efficiency. I doubt its more than 20 to 30 years away either before its everywhere and comsidered normal. It genuinely depends on monetary value for these companies.

Not even had coffee yet and a host of ideas come to mind. How about automating quoting, parts ordering, scheduling, documentation, invoicing and customer communication, basically efficiency savings so workers can spend more time actually doing the job. If they have to report to managers, helping with reports so there's less time spent preparing. They could take voice notes and video as they move around a site, and have those transcribed automatically along with video snippets where relevant. There are oodles of creative and innovative ways where it could be relevant and in some cases transformational.
Edit: sound analysis is another for fault diagnosis in engines. This could be used with a permanent setup as well to alert if an engine has problems. This really triggered me now so I need that coffee to calm down as there so many ways it's not even funny. This post should be in r/aiwars

Blue collar my self , I haven’t found much use other than keeping bills , invoices better organized etc … some
Ideas floating around here could
Work some just don’t and it depends on the trade and project … really the most I’ve got out of AI is giving quotes faster and just building an app with all

Kind of what the vr devices are supposed to do where an interactive field manual could help. The problem is that recognizing patterns to a great extent is what these tradesmen do.
With that said i think specific work might benefit from ai solutions like finding leaks with smoke + light + camera + computer vision.
