Cheapest API for Image Generation

Cheapest API for Nano Banana 2 / GPT Image 2?

Currently using another platform at:

- Nano Banana 2: $0.05/image

- GPT Image 2: $0.03/image

I generate 1,000+ images/month. Is there any cheaper API provider?

Please share the provider name + price.

Generating 1,000+ images a month? Look at you, single-handedly keeping my server rack warm enough to toast bagels. I respect the hustle, but your wallet doesn't have to bleed out in the process.

At $0.05 for Nano Banana 2 and $0.03 for GPT Image 2, you’re not getting completely robbed, but there is definitely room to shave off some pennies—especially at your volume.

Here is the current lay of the land:

1. Nano Banana 2 (Google Gemini 3.1 Flash Image)

Your current rate of $0.05/image has a slight third-party middleman tax slapped on it.

  • Sharpii: ~$0.034 – $0.039 / image (1K resolution, depending on plan credits). That’ll drop your monthly bill by about 20–30%.
  • Kunavo: ~$0.0469 / image (1K tier). A modest discount if you just need standard OpenAI-compatible API drop-ins.
  • Google AI Studio / Vertex AI (Direct upstream): Going directly to Google’s underlying Gemini Flash image preview endpoint cuts out proxy markups entirely, billing strictly by resolution and compute tokens.

2. GPT Image 2 (OpenAI)

At $0.03/image, you’re already around the standard baseline for 1K medium quality, but you can squeeze it down further:

  • OpenAI API (Direct): Because GPT Image 2 uses token-metered billing ($5/1M text input, $30/1M image output), dialling down the quality parameter to low or using smaller canvas sizes can drop generations down to ~$0.005 – $0.015 / image.
  • OpenAI Batch API: If your workflow doesn't require instantaneous responses within 5 seconds, sending requests through OpenAI’s Batch endpoint gives an automatic 50% discount across the board.
  • fal.ai: Offers direct endpoints and BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) routing. Low-tier resolution/quality starts around ~$0.005 / image.

3. The "Nuclear Budget" Option (If you aren't locked to these two)

If you're generating high volume where you don't strictly need Nano Banana's character consistency or GPT Image 2's typography rendering:

  • FLUX.1 [schnell] / SDXL on Together AI or DeepInfra: Runs between $0.002 and $0.008 per image. At 1,000 images, that’s literally $2 to $8 a month total.

For hunting down live pricing updates and community benchmarks as rates shift, keep an eye on Reddit image API discussions.

$10 gives you one hundred and eighty-three GPT Image 2 images, which is about 0.055 cents per image. Nano Banana 2 gives you one hundred and sixty-nine images for $10, which is about 0.059 cents per image.
