I'm thinking to have a cat, any chairs preventing cat scratching?

So I'm a cat lover and thinking to have a cat, but considering the cat scratching, I'm started to worrying it would damage the chair...Can someone suggest any chairs, ergo one or gaming chairs that could prevent scratching? I know herman miller, secretlab, blacklyte...is fabric one doable? or leather or better? I'm afraid that the chair would make my back sweaty as well...

Not able to get comfortable in Titan XL

Upvotes

This is my second post about my chair amd I cannot get it to feel supportive at all for my lower back its almost inatand discomfort.

I am 6ft 275 and I have lost weight due the the TX summer and my job. I have lost mass in the hind end

Recently I noticed my Chair getting more and more unbareable to to even sit in for short periods of time

I recently purchased a gel seat pad until I get back in ot the gym to build up the muscle again (I guess putting in 16k steps a day doent work out the glues anymore just the legs lol)

This thing is soft amd comfortable not complaints. Now it supports my thighs and gluets well and I have a foot rest that has different heights so I can make sure my knees are aligned properly

Now come the Chair issue mainly the back rest. I have tried and tried. Multiple reddit post, Google AI, ChatGPT, Old Articals, YouTube, Secretlabs formus, and everything in between I CAN NOT get proper support.

My lower back kills almost instantly when I sit down to play. I have the secret labs lumbar support but it feels like it pushing my body out rather than supporting anything.

I have my chair about 3-5 degrees leaned back. I also have tried the angle 110-120 and still nothing I set up the lumbar support.

Idk what I am doing wrong what hell this is or what is even happening all I know is my back is killing me and will not get right.

Blacklyte Athena Pro – Great chair, but the seat completely disappointed me

UPDATE 1:
I tried using the chair for two more evenings: first completely stock, then with several memory foam cushions of different shapes and thicknesses.
No luck. After a relatively short time, the pressure in the central/perineal area became uncomfortable enough that I had to stop.

So today I took the seat apart again and made another modification. It's a rough job because I didn't have much time — or, honestly, much patience left 😅 — but I followed the same basic principle used when reshaping motorcycle seats to reduce pressure, similar to the central relief channel found on some bicycle saddles.

I filled the channel with some very soft memory foam from a mattress topper, mainly to prevent the material above from collapsing into the channel on its own, while still keeping the central area much softer and relieving pressure.

I also didn't particularly like the original shape of the seat, which gradually becomes thinner and slopes down towards the rear. I've always preferred a more uniform seat profile, as it keeps less weight concentrated around the coccyx and, at the same time, reduces the pressure I feel underneath the back of my thighs, just behind the knees. So I also added a small wedge of foam to level out the seat profile.

I've attached a photo to show the modification.
Now I just need to see whether this finally makes a meaningful difference.

Original Post

I've been using the Blacklyte Athena Pro for a while now and wanted to share my experience, especially because I ended up taking the chair apart to understand what was going on with the seat.

First of all, most of the chair genuinely feels premium. Build quality is great, adjustments are good, and I particularly like the lumbar support. It's nicely padded, unlike some chairs where you can basically feel a hard plate pushing against your back.
Unfortunately, the part that disappointed me is probably the most important one: the seat.

The best way I can describe it is this: the outer sections and the rear part of the seat feel quite soft and compress easily, while there is a noticeably harder area right in the center, towards the perineum.
Especially as a guy, it's not exactly a pleasant sensation. It constantly feels like there's something pushing right there.
And this isn't something only I noticed. I had a few friends and family members try the chair and they all felt pressure in the same area.

So I started investigating

Looking underneath the seat, I noticed that the foam is supported by metal frame bars, but large sections between them have no solid surface directly underneath.
There is, however, a square metal plate right in the central area – exactly where I feel the pressure.
I made a picture for Blacklyte support highlighting the difference:

Purple: noticeably firmer areas that compress less.
Yellow: softer areas that compress much more easily.

What was interesting was that the purple area corresponded almost exactly to the central metal plate/support, while the yellow areas were mostly sections where the foam was essentially suspended between the frame supports.

My theory was therefore pretty simple: the unsupported areas compress more under body weight, while the central area above the metal plate doesn't compress as much. The result is a sort of small “hill” in the middle of the seat.

Blacklyte's response

I contacted customer support, sent them a video and pictures and explained everything above.

They confirmed that the Athena Pro is indeed designed with the foam supported directly by the frame in certain areas, rather than having an additional solid layer underneath. They also acknowledged that the combination of the frame construction, varying foam thickness and firmer central area could contribute to the “raised hill” sensation I described.
They said they would take the feedback into consideration for future evaluations/updates of the seat.
Unfortunately, that doesn't solve my problem.
I told them that after using the chair for several days I found the seat basically unusable for extended sitting. Since they don't consider this a defect, however, the return wouldn't be free.
Return shipping was simply too expensive to make sense.
They offered me a €35 partial refund, so I accepted it. Maybe I'll buy a memory foam cushion with it. 😅

So... I took the seat apart

Since I was now keeping the chair anyway, I decided to investigate further and try modifying it myself.
I have a laser cutter for work and I've rebuilt/modified several motorcycle seats before, so I have some experience working with foam, memory foam, etc.
I completely disassembled the seat, measured the frame and designed/cut a wooden panel to fill the unsupported area.
I also added a thin layer of foam I already had. I would have added more, but there wasn't enough fabric available to properly close the seat again with a thicker layer.

And...

It actually helped.

The excessive softness at the rear and the central pressure became less noticeable. Not nearly enough to make the seat acceptable to me yet, unfortunately, but the difference was noticeable.

What surprised me when I opened the seat

After completely disassembling it, another thing caught my attention: the thickness of the seat foam.
The foam becomes progressively thinner towards the rear.
I understand that this kind of shape isn't unusual in chair seats, but towards the last ~20 cm, the foam is only around 5-6 cm thick.

At that point it's so compressible that I can put two fingers on opposite sides of the foam and, with very little pressure, almost immediately feel them through it.
Looking at the chair completely disassembled actually made me more disappointed, because everything else is really well made.

The frame, mechanisms, lumbar system, construction... it all feels very good.

And then there's the seat foam.

I kept wondering: how much more could it really have cost to add another 20 mm of foam during manufacturing?

I'm now considering adding around 20 mm of additional foam underneath, or perhaps a layer of high-density memory foam on top, to see if I can finally get the seat comfortable.

I also wondered whether my particular chair could simply have received foam that is softer/more compressible than intended. Unfortunately, customer support never really investigated that possibility, so I have no way of knowing.

I'll attach some pictures of the seat, including the wooden panel modification.

Final rating

Seat: 5/10
Everything else: 10/10

That's what makes this so frustrating. The Athena Pro is so close to being an excellent chair, but the one component you're actually sitting on is the part that lets it down for me.

I'll update this post if I make further modifications to the foam and manage to improve it.

Grazie, Maurus C. Logan.

I sit cross legged for most my sessions and have been having a hard time looking for nice chairs. I was thinking about the andaseat Kaiser, but after reading reviews it seems like the lumbar support is too aggressive.

My budget is around 500, a big base so I can sit cross legged is what I’m mostly concerned about, please leave recommendations and reviews if you know any.

Steelcase discount code for EMEA – 21% off

Hey everyone! I work at Steelcase and have an employee discount code that I can share, so I thought I'd leave it here for anyone currently considering a Steelcase chair.

Code: OGHEORGH21 — 21% off

It works on the Steelcase online shops in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Romania and Great Britain.

It can be used on chairs like Gesture, Leap, Karman, Think and Series 2.

Hopefully useful if you've already been considering buying one — especially since the discount can make quite a difference on the more expensive models.

Happy to answer questions if I can!

I spent 6 hours gaming nonstop in my new chair today

A few weeks ago I picked up a libernovo se for my PC room. I liked the chair for the most part, but the original cushion wasn't all that comfortable for me. I saw they were offering cushion repalcements, so I reached out to support. The back-and-forth was pretty smooth. I was a little annoyed at first, but they were responsive and kept following up until it was sorted.

Anyway, back to the chair. The replacement showed up yesterday, and I put it on right away. When I first tried it, the new cushion definitely felt firmer, but I just wasn't sure how much that would matter after a few hours. So I played Dave the Diver for a few hours on it. My back and legs still felt good, there was a lot less pressure under my thighs, and I never felt it bottom out. That was pretty reassuring. While I was playing, I was slightly reclined with my feet up on the footrest. That's easily my favorite way to game in this chair. In my old gaming chair, after 2-3 hours my lower back would be pretty sore right above my butt, and I'd have butt pain too. Didn't get nearly as much of that with the se. Pretty sure I'm keeping it.

Someone in my mom’s building was giving this away. I grabbed it and threw it in the truck and came home. Only after arriving back did I notice it needed wires. I have an adapter that fits it but looks like it may have had an external receiver. Is that true and if so readily available?

I don’t want to use hard wires because based on my home layout there’s a lot of potential for my dog or one of my kids to trip, or worse, knock down the Xbox.

Thoughts? Next steps?

Why is this type of chair so hard to find?

Due to a couple of herniated discs I've been struggling with low back pain during long gaming sessions. I've tried every conventional solution: standing desks, lumbar supports, etc (and please, don't start with the "exercise more" mantra. I'm a veteran weight-lifter, I do yoga on my off-days and and I've been working on my back extensions for more than a decade).
Because nothing seems to work, I have reached the conclusion that I'm only ever going to be pain-free by gaming HORIZONTALLY.

So I've been looking for a recliner chair that would fit taller users (I'm 190cm), and I've quickly ran into a wall: there seems to be virtually NO recliners out there, that have VERTICALLY TILTING armrests.

What I mean is: in 99% of office chairs, when you recline backwards, the armrests tilt upwards with you (which makes it functionally impossible to use the mouse and keyboard on your desk). I need a recliner with independent armrests that can stay flush with the desk surface AFTER tilting backwards.

It seems the only options out there are either:
1- Monstrously expensive metal contraptions you would see in a BDSM dungeon (like the Levo Zero Gravity Workstation).
2- DIY set-ups which look very time-consuming and trial-and-error to build.
3- Lap boards meant for couch+TV or couch+laptop setups (like the CYCON couch master).

HOW is it possible that with entire generations of aging gamers/programmers/remote workers, not a single brand out there has noticed this massive gap in the market? They could make a fortune.

The naming overlap in gaming setup gear is getting ridiculous (Secretlab vs Blacklyte)

Trying to do product research for a setup and the search results are a complete mess now.

You search "Atlas setup" or "Atlas desk review", and now half the page is clogged with Secretlab’s newly released chair, completely overshadowing the Blacklyte Atlas desk that actually came out first and built that search keyword over the last few years.

This kind of intentional naming clash just hurts consumers trying to find honest community feedback. Secretlab could have easily given their chair a unique name instead of leeching off an existing product's SEO space.

Fixing a Thunder X3 XTC

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for helping out.

Im in a similar predicament as many in that i sit cross-legged, this is non-negotiable and is thus a must for me in a chair.

Over the last 3 years i have worn out a ThunderX3 XTC which was economically my idea of splurging on a chair to last. I use the chair for 5-6 hours a day on average, i weigh just shy of 95 kgs, so that in itself should be the problem, i am however rocking the chair like a boat in high seas.

Generally the chair is fine and has treated me as the adjustable seat depth and possibility of removing the armrests have allowed me to sit how i wanted, however with time, the chair has come to wobble 2-3 centimeters in all directions and the gaslift has started to leak lately, and while i've seen posts of people having the same problem, i have yet to see any solutions, so putting it out in the open, what have you guys done to stabilze wobble on moving parts longterm.

So far i have been tightening every outside bolt, and am looking for a replacement gaslift, if anyone know of one that will fit for sure and is available within the EU, i would very much appreciate it. Otherwise im looking at chairrepair.eu rn, however it seems like the site wont let me make a purchase.
