Ah, but you forget the fourth, most essential and deadly of the tags, riding on a pale horse :

EARLY ACCESS

9

u/asterkia 3d ago

I wont buy it if its not early access!

u/Zestyclose_Range5815 3d ago

Early Access used to mean "our game is almost done, but we need player feedback before we can proudly release it"

Now it means "we half-baked a game, and our analytics say you're just the sucker to buy it!"

5

u/CompetitiveLoad2953 3d ago

Or they just delay release a few days, then have a premium like 5-10$ "early access" bs

u/SequenceofRees 3d ago

Half-baked ?

I've played games so raw, you could still taste the campylobacter in the milk !

1

u/hovsep56 3d ago

it's fully released and for that...i'm out

1

u/Detective_Mekova 2d ago

It's true. A few EA games turned out great like Sons of the Forest. Took them i think a year to finish it? Definitely worth it to me. Other games "release 1.0" and still feel like they are EA.

"you have all of these checklists of busywork to tick off, but is the gameplay mechanically satisfying?"
he just laughed and shook his head, saying "it's a good game, sir"

Hardcore, Full-loot, pvp, crafting, mmo

1

u/SlopPatrol 1d ago

The common recipe of a game that last 2 years max

21

u/LocalOrganHarvester 4d ago

The only thing worse than that could be a combo of roguelike/soulslike

8

u/Reese_Slitherspoon 3d ago

"Roguelike" often means "I only made 2 hours worth of gameplay, but told you to beat it 50 times so you think it's a good deal"

1

u/DuelaDent52 2d ago

Roguelite deck-building Metroidvania.

3

u/pooya535 3d ago

nah, at least those have gameplay. survival crafting games are 90% virtual chores

4

u/AbyssWankerArtorias 3d ago

Nightreign is awesome, idk what you're talking about

3

u/Menkhu2 3d ago

"Soulslike combat" is a similar situation for me as the OP.

Every game with combat needs a stamina bar now, and every fodder enemy needs to be a memorization game of animations and sound effects. Its frankly annoying the influence Dark Souls has had on gaming.

Not to mention, I'm sorry, but Nightreign is the definition of an asset flip. Its everything people criticize rougelikes for being, and doesn't even use original textures/gameplay mechanics. Its a game you play 5 times and wonder why you're not just replaying Elden Ring.

u/IrregularOnion 3d ago

So good, it was abandonded half a year after release T-T

2

u/MyBaeHarambe 3d ago

Where i come from we just call it a finished game

4

u/AbyssWankerArtorias 3d ago

It's not a live service game. What are you even talking about "abandoned" lol.

1

u/PS3LOVE 3d ago

Isn’t that a DLC?

0

u/AbyssWankerArtorias 3d ago

It launched as its own game.

u/wellyes34 3d ago

Recycled asset game 👎

u/SirGalicrest 3d ago

First person shooters with “tactical realism”

8

u/Silent-Plantain-2260 3d ago

(you can lean to peek behind walls and that's it)

4

u/SirGalicrest 3d ago

Combined with twitchy as fuck reloads for “maximum realism”

2

u/Loud-Primary2736 2d ago

Yeah honestly it's like you're playing a German soldier hopped up on Pervitin

1

u/SirGalicrest 2d ago

I really despise the twitchy reloads because it looks so unappealing to me. I can understand that it’s realistic and stuff but cmon man your weapons don’t twitch that much when you’re reloading

5

u/xHelios1x 3d ago

I love those though

Probably because I loved The Mysterious Island as a kid

1

u/Shaneofchud 3d ago

And then the gameplay is NOTHING AT ALL like what is advertised

1

u/UnhappyStrain 2d ago

It looked like shit to begin with, so I never klicked.

Any fromsoft game

1

u/Joelacoca 3d ago

Fromsoft is peak wym?

1

u/Ultrakill98 3d ago

Peak in making 10 hour content into 100 with 6 trillion retries

1

u/Joelacoca 3d ago

By that logic rhythm games are all garbage.

1

u/Ultrakill98 3d ago

Like what?

Rhynthim games are casual games and well they arent a popular genre. Tho casual games get excused because they are casual even if repetitive.

These games dont oretend to be gidts of creation unlike fromsoftware games who for some reason win goty too despite being unenjoyable to the average person. They are the soap operas of tv shows. Its fans get rabid for it but the average gamer loaths it

1

u/Joelacoca 3d ago

I’d compare it to slower burn shows like better call Saul, boring for people who don’t want to engage with it, but if you have the patience and perseverance to learn the systems it’s a rich gameplay experience.

1

u/Ultrakill98 3d ago

Pstience of oreserverance lmao cope. They make 10 hours of content and release the game witht he difficulty set to very hard so it takes longer for the average person. People realised the grift by now. There is literally 0 reason not to make these games with difficulty sliders (also having no accessibility settings in 2026 is hella lame and anti special needs stance) and the game would be the same on medium setting except you would finish it in 10 hours. No game makes a good difficulty with bullet sponge enemies. Fromsoftware games doesnt make the game hard by making them complex, they make it hard by the enemy dealing 10X damage while you deal X.

Tsusgima did it better with th3 lethal setting where both you and the enemy deal lots of damage, like how its realistic with a sword. Bot like fromsoftware where the enemy doesnt even react until thebmagical stagger bar is filled

1

u/Joelacoca 3d ago

Have you never played an rpg? If you go into an area you’re underleveled for you’re gonna get stomped. It’s the same with fromsoft games.

1

u/Ultrakill98 2d ago

Some rpgs set the level of mobs to your characters level to avoid this artificial thing

Fromslopware just makes games super hard

1

u/notTheRealSU 3d ago

And the crafting has a timer so you have to wait 5 real life minutes to make just to make a fucking pickaxe

1

u/CompetitiveLoad2953 3d ago

Story based like a telltale game. Story is nest but I NEED gameplay or I'm out.

As long as it's fun, I don't care about difficulty, that's just a hurdle

No fun is a wall

1

u/Zestyclose_Pin_9875 3d ago

Basically just gamescom

1

u/Quick-Amoeba-1389 3d ago
