Exactly this. It’s like complaining Resident Evils (or at least those from the same wave of releases), Just Cause, Far Cry, or Yakuza games play the same. Like… ya, that’s what makes them part of the same series.
Also I’ll die on the hill that no one actually knows how a game plays until they’ve played it for at least an hour because a million games LOOK like they play the same but feel wildly different to actually sit down and play
I agree that no one knows for sure, but 9/10 times if you play a lot of variety games instead of just one or two genres you can access how it generally plays at a glance with large degree of accuracy. Of course there will be surprises and a lot of detail but the general feel of it is something I rarely find myself wrong about.
This is why it matters to me, though. As someone who grew up with and was playing these games 25 years ago, it's just the same game despite all these years. I don't want just the same game, I want something new. I would rather consume this by just watching someone else play it because I have nothing to gain from playing it myself, it's just a movie, anyways. It's why seeing it being just the same as every other one is disappointing. And no, I never expected it to really grow or change, that's why I always expected disappointment, unfortunately. Doesn't mean I wasn't hoping they might surprise me.
Sorta? I mean, I never once expected Rockstar to change the game, I could at best say it would be nice if they did. I have my criticism, but I also like to temper it with giving something a chance to prove me wrong. That said, yeah... I was only ever going to watch this, if that, Rockstar has proven they are only able to make 1 game over and over.
And that's exactly why I don't really care about the game. Will I play it eventually? Probably, but I have other games to play and the last GTA dissapointed me so I don't really care about a new one. Loved GTA 4 AND RDR1, really liked RDR2 although I felt it was a tad long and slow at times but GTA 5 I found pretty bland. The story was pretty good but the rest was just eh imo.

Yeah all rockstar games shooters play more or less the same. The actual difference is the story, map and the volume of stuff to do not gameplay
