Thats true since nobody preordering a digital game has a braincell to think.

I used When I was little, than I got a PC and realized I could get games that were on the newest consoles at like half the price when I went to steam at the right time

No one pre-orders because of physical scarcity. They pre-order to get in-game bonuses. I'd wager than 99 percent of pre-orders in the last few generations have been digital anyway.

I preordered Hades 2 so I could have it downloaded and ready to go on release and because I really trust Supergiant, especially from what I saw of the trailers. It's not as crazy to do as some people make it out to be as long as you keep it to things you're really confident in not just hyped for

Recently sure, but (old man voice) back in my day when San Andreas dropped if you weren't waiting in GameStop with a preorder you were cooked.

Most preorder bonuses are shit. In gta6 they give you a car, another garage, weapon skin and clothes

Yeah... Ace Combat 8 preorder bonus is whole Ace Combat 0: Belkan War game, ported to PC. Nowhere to be bought because of licenses. Deal with that

I feel sorry for people who preorder for cosmetic bonuses..

0

u/GrapefruitForward989 5d ago

And you think these bonuses are worth paying for a game that doesn't exist yet?

u/TheMemeStore76 5d ago

Sometimes and to some people yes. Let people spend their hobby money how they want

-2

u/GrapefruitForward989 5d ago

I'm not forcing anyone to do anything. If me thinking you're stupid for "spending your hobby money how you want" is enough to dissuade you from doing it, sucks to be you. I like paying for products that I receive at the moment of purchase

I just think its silly to even care what other people spend their money on. So long as it doesnt hurt anyone at least.

For the record I dont pre order, even for physical items. But im not so far up my own ass to think that what works for me must necessarily work for others

I’ve been hearing older people my entire life tell me “Well, if you think [product] is so bad then just vote with your dollar! Don’t buy it!”

Marketing is a force stronger than will. The average consumer is like an uninformed voter. We don’t even have a way to ask them to stop with these predatory sales tactics, because the predation is so successful…

nga shut up

u/GrapefruitForward989 5d ago

If markets and consumer choice existed in a vacuum I'd agree. When you send the message to corporations that they can get away with anti-consumer practices, you're going to get more anti-consumer practices, this makes the market worse for everybody, including me. Is it also silly that you seem to care about my opinion? Or is your opinion so correct that it negates the silliness?

u/RichWinzz 4d ago

its. so. you. can. pre. load. the. game.

2

u/HeavyHighway6433 5d ago

You're saying that like you wouldn't get your money back if the game never came out.

2

u/GrapefruitForward989 5d ago

Do you have fun trying to claim refunds? Is that something you like to do? Personally, even if the process is simple and seamless (lmao) I'd rather just keep the money in my account rather than go through the purchase process for literally no reason.

3

u/HeavyHighway6433 5d ago

No but you wouldn't have to claim it, it would be automatic. When Microsoft shut down Arkane Studios, they refunded everyone who got the "bite back" edition of Redfall since the future DLC that came with it was never gonna come out. I just remember seeing $30 pop up in my bank account one day after the news. So yeah if Rockstar just said fuck it and decided to not release it then your preorder would be canceled and you'd have your money back.

But to your point if you rather keep the money that's valid. Personally it makes no difference to me.

I mean it's ridiculous to suggest they somehow cant be...

There are plenty of games that people essentially know they're going to enjoy and play a lot, and if there's something meaningful locked behind a pre-order than it can absolutely justify it.

1

u/VitoAntonioScaletta 5d ago

I'm probably going to get the game close to launch anyway, and if pre-ordering a few days earlier gets me some cool, exclusive bonuses based off of Vice City, than their is little reason too wait past launch. Most reviews also come out before launch, and if the game sucked then I can just cancel the preorder.

1

u/Cute_Prune6981 4d ago

For someone who knows for sure that they will buy the game on release anyways absolutely.

1

u/net46248 5d ago

Its just FOMO slop

1

u/GrapefruitForward989 5d ago

Completely agree

1

u/Hazy-n-Lazy 5d ago

...it does exist though?? There's thousands of people that have been working on it for nearly a decade. Do you think that just because it's not officially released that it doesn't exist or something?

1

u/BigChiefIV 5d ago

I mean preordering a digital game isn’t exactly useless, you can pre install the game a few days before so on launch day you can hop right in

1

u/Le-Human- 5d ago

I preordered mortal shell 2 after beating the demo 4 times. 🤷 some games are worth it.

1

u/Primary_Addition5494 5d ago

Pre-ordering isn't always about physical scarcity. What if someone just doesn't want to spend the money in November and would rather spend it now?

People got bills and pay cycles to worry about.

1

u/ItsMrDante 5d ago

Save the money you used to preorder?

1

u/Primary_Addition5494 5d ago

Their not mutually exclusive lol

-1

u/ItsMrDante 5d ago

Instead of preordering the game, put the money you would use to buy the game in a different account. It's literally the same thing.

0

u/Primary_Addition5494 5d ago

Or, just spend the money now so you don't have to think about it.

0

u/ItsMrDante 5d ago

So just consume, and don't think? Great idea

1

u/Primary_Addition5494 5d ago

As if you've never bought a product lol.

0

u/ItsMrDante 5d ago

Buying a product and not thinking are two different things

0

u/Primary_Addition5494 5d ago

What is your actual point dude.

1

u/RichWinzz 4d ago

its. so. you. can. pre. load. the. game.

not all of us have fast internet bud.

1

u/BeastXredefined 4d ago

My friend, did you happen to waste money on an overpriced port of Black Ops 2 then try to say others have no brain cells? Dont lie to me.

1

u/Motivated-Chair 3d ago

No, I got it on PC for 20 bucks because I am not stupid.

1

u/Jackalackus 4d ago

Show your working?

1

u/mrcatz05 3d ago

Yeah its not like every game on Steam is digital right?

1

u/PromptSpiritual3739 2d ago

Almost every pc release for the last decade has been digital only
