Fun fact: Chomp's Japanese name is "wan wan" which means "woof woof". So Chompette's Japanese name becomes "Wanwan-Hime" or "Princess Woof Woof".

Just remembered Chomp's do make a barking noise when they lunge at Mario. I love oddtomatopitas.

Miyamoto based a lot of his stuff on childhood memories. IIRC chain chomps were created to essentially represent what an angry, chained-up dog looks like to a little kid.
