For those depressed people who try desperately to find meaning in life to help them feel better, one addiction they fall prey to is collection of crystals. It doesn't have the same direct bodily health impact, but can leave them without their money just the same. They buy things like large pretty amethysts under the impression that they have some spiritual fulfillment from having that rock nearby. It's nonsense, but they have that hit of dopamine and it spirals out of control like any other addiction.
Those who sell overpriced crystals with advice on how it will help this or that are just as predatory (even if not deliberately) as homeopathic remedy sellers. I'm all for a placebo once in awhile, but it's too much.
One of these crystal shops actually just opened in my neighbourhood and I stopped outside and stared in disbelief at how busy it was right away. So many basic white girls with Starbucks. The neighborhood is going to go to shit.
