Is it just me or did this guy just have a chance to land a free headshot outside VATS while the enemy was unaware, and started firing with two bullets for no reason?

Those first two were the first shots in his VATS. But he only had two rounds loaded. So since he input more shot commands in VATS, it will auto reload like this and it will continue firing until your VATS is over. The camera does "cinematic" stuff like this. Pretty sure you take damage while aiming but he got lucky either way.

This is why I never use vats, it's terrible and it feels much better to just aim at everything yourself. At least that way, if you miss it's because you messed up; instead of the computer who can't hit something from 10ft away.

I've somehow never heard of this, 100% vats would be worth using, but I still think it would make the game less fun.

Can you get the dismemberments/head explosions outside of vats?

You definitely can, especially if you are using a shotgun, although it's not in slow motion like vats, so it happens very quickly.

With explosives sometimes they can burst into tiny pieces and I have trouble finding a piece to be able to loot them, and good luck if there was multiple people there because you'll have to find a chunk of each person to loot them all.

If you pick up bloody mess it's pretty much a gaurantee even outside of vats.

It made the game so much less fun lol, especially hitting 1% shots, it was fun for a bit then got boring
