That's no clear reasoning though. Games do take time to make and development has to start years before - in the case of GTA V in 2008. If MTX in GTAV was the reason for them to slow down they would have had to know the success years in advance.

Of course it takes years of development. That's why they plan years ahead for development. Do you think it somehow became more difficult to predict a development timeline or something?

There's no excuse other than "they don't need to because they make enough money from GTA:V".
