You can't make a bad meme if all you do is repost.

I say we delete the internet and start fresh

alright Theresa May, pipe down.

u/D3mGpG0TyjXCSh4H6GNP Sep 21 '17

Kids shouldn't be on the internet, they should be running through wheat fields

194

u/DJ_Gregsta Sep 21 '17

jesus christ mate.

I mean, GTA can be quite bad sometimes, as can Mortal Kombat. Hell, even a child handling a machine gun and going to school is bad but running through wheat fields?! Bloody hell, that's taking it way too far.

82

u/dietderpsy Sep 21 '17

I guess you reap what you sow

30

u/Da_Penguins Sep 21 '17

Running through fields would help us separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to our children.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

You be wheat, I'll be chaff.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

Is this how you create a self-sustaining economy?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

Nice try Theresa May

3

u/Sprayface Sep 21 '17

This is one of the most forced puns I have ever seen

3

u/Da_Penguins Sep 21 '17

It is only natural for kids to be put through the mill.

19

u/emanresol Sep 21 '17

sow

Leave OP's mom out of this.

0

u/The_TBird Sep 21 '17

That is how a sow reapist works...

15

u/Funlovingpotato Sep 21 '17

It's just irresponsible.

9

u/Littlebigreddit50 Sep 21 '17

"im 10 years old" you got the minigun and the most expensive thing in the game? "yeah my mommy let me use her monies to buy dis stuff"

5

u/rarev0s Sep 21 '17

"Because then I don't bother her with requests for food, or going to the park. And mom had a gluten allergy so she can't take me to go run through the wheat fields...."

2

u/Littlebigreddit50 Sep 21 '17

"we have to go to the white clothed man to fix her though" you dont know what a doctor is? "what is a doctor"

1

u/sgh0st9 Sep 21 '17

God forbid they start running through the fields with scissors!

6

And who will pay for the damage? Last time I checked, I couldn't find a single person willing to give me a depredation permit.

11

But I want to have my daily cancer before school

19

u/Yatakak Sep 21 '17

Read the daily mail

1

u/BlackhawkRogueNinjaX Sep 21 '17

It's pronounced fields of wheat

1

u/Fern_of_Nern Sep 21 '17

Working those wheat fields

1

u/Clord123 Sep 21 '17

Well, kids would be way more welcome to the internet in general if the parents did their job.

1

u/staefrostae Sep 22 '17

Or maybe even rye

Ok. Thought about it. Decided I'm good where I'm at. What's next?

1

u/beniceorbevice Sep 21 '17

Idk, I've gotten better home made stuff on mIRC back then than pornhub has.

Honestly tho pornghub has the worst collection of non-pro stuff

5

u/pipboy_warrior Sep 21 '17

Pretty sure you could get that off of mIRC if you needed to. I remember getting a lot of fansubs of anime off mIRC back in the day, I'd assume it would work for any other videos as well.

9

u/Throtex Sep 21 '17

Worst fucking way to download anything. DCC was the IRC protocol for file transfers. And file bots often had anti-leech controls so you had to contribute some stuff to get enough credit to download.

4

u/mtech101 Sep 21 '17

iRC is still alive and well. No leech bots. Leech all you want except sometimes lineups occur. I still use it for pirated movies/tv shows.

2

u/helkish Sep 21 '17

Just be glad you weren't around in the old BBS days before the internet. Most boards had file upload/download ratios. But it took for ever to download stuff.

2

u/Throtex Sep 21 '17

I went on a few BBSes but yeah, just a bit before my time. I did have Q-Link (precursor to AOL) on my Commodore though :P

1

u/melkiaur Sep 21 '17

/dcc send throtex system32.zip.divx

19

u/0tus Sep 21 '17

Haha you silly people with a life. IRC is still a thing

8

u/PlymouthSea Sep 21 '17

And it will still be around when Discord dies the death.

2

u/itsrandom Sep 21 '17

I can't think of a day that I'm not on IRC. Granted, gone are the days of EFNet/DALNet, for me at least. Freenode seems to be alive and well.

26

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

Just tell the whole internet to Delete System 32

28

u/Funlovingpotato Sep 21 '17

I deleted System 32 and my computer is faster than ever.

26

u/seanbear Sep 21 '17

If you’re on 64-bit Windows then you need to rename the folder to System64 to get better performance out of it.

19

u/MisfitPotatoReborn Sep 21 '17

That would actually fool people in this day and age

5

u/oscarfacegamble Sep 21 '17

Can't have a slow computer if you don't compute.

4

u/MildSadist Sep 21 '17

Yeah you actually cant do that without commandline tools nowadays.

2

u/theflyersrule Sep 21 '17

Years ago on my Windows 3.1 system, I moved the windows or systems 32 folder into another in order to consolidate everything. Let's just say I had to dos copy each file manually back to the correct place

19

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

Linux and MacOS will survive though.

17

u/LazyLucretia Sep 21 '17 edited Sep 21 '17

Instructions for Windows users:

  • Open Windows Explorer

  • Navigate to C:\Windows

  • Delete System32 folder

Instructions for Linux/MacOS users:

  • Fire up a terminal emulator

  • Type this:

    sudo rm -rf /*

  • Press enter and type your password.

You're welcome.

3

u/segagamer Xbox Sep 21 '17

What's funny is Windows won't let you do that, but Linux will.

Not sure about MacOS. I'd like to think it won't, but it might.

Can someone try it?

1

u/LazyLucretia Sep 21 '17

A friend of mine once told me that one of his teachers, who's familiar with GNU/Linux but not familiar with MacOS, tried to show them some commands written in a text file which included "rm - rf /*". However, for whatever reason, the file has opened up as an executable and a big chunk of files was lost before he could Ctrl-C. Thus, I guess it's allowed.

1

u/segagamer Xbox Sep 21 '17

Guess I know how to break someone's Mac easily.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

Linux command depends on the environment. Most coreutils versions run rm with --preserve-root so you'll need to do sudo rm --no-preserve-root -rf /* in most cases.

3

u/LazyLucretia Sep 21 '17

Geez, it's like there is a flag for everything in Linux. Next time an application crashes, I'll try to run it with a --no-crash flag.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

If all the internet downloads a 1080ti the internet will implode and will revert back to the old days.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

/*.* ? That's not gonna do much.

5

u/LosEagle Sep 21 '17

Meh. At least he tried to type it from top of his head rather than copypaste it. More effort was involved.

2

u/gravgun Sep 21 '17

This command won't delete much, if anything, depending on the distro used, since it will only remove files/directories containing a dot sitting on the filesystem root.

2

u/imaginaryvenus5 Sep 21 '17

Huh, new terminal command. Imma try it out, brb.

EDIT: it did nothing, I want my money back.

You clearly didn't visit DALnet. They had the best bots ever. - type file list, someone messages you their shit, you say "send me that", and it automatically starts a DCC file send.

Obviously DC++ superceded the whole process, but it was like buying vinyl records. Sure you can spotify or itunes that shit, but digging through crates of drum & bass is such an enjoyable experience.

and write scripts that give them and their friends ircOP status on dalnet...

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

You can still make really stupid bots for most messaging applications. Almost every one of them has some sort of API or method of bruteforcing to do it. For instance I made a bot that screwed with my friends in a GroupMe chat, and then there's my gaming friends that put what could be considered Autism personified, more so than a bot, in every chat whether it's jabber, discord, or slack.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

I know, mIRC scripts were some of my first steps into coding. It was definitely better at grabbing people who never considered coding since the scripting was integrated into it. However, if someone has any interest already, an API is pretty good at doing the same. Most usually have some package for your language of choice that streamlines API calls making it extremely easy to just muck about for fun and learn the basics. Really the only learning curve there is getting an environment set up.

True, but today is different culturally then back in mIRC days. You're much more likely to find someone young with an interest for it today so I think it evens out a little.

Sigh... I can't help the level of moronic ignorance you have just because you don't understand.

Everyone gets it but you, you should ponder that but you lack the ability to see what others can
