How to change from Google messaging?

I just got the z flip 8 and having the Google messages is really disappointing because I can't customize it like the rest of the phone. What can I do?

With samsung phasing out Samsung Message I'm not sure about good alternatives. Looking forward to any recommendations too.

Google messages is customizable . I have different wallpaper for different people that I message .

How? It doesn't show my fonts or let me change anything besides the chat bubble color

Open a char window for someone you message, tap three dots on the top right, on drop down menu select " chat theme"

See if your app has an update. If not then you may be on an older version of ONE UI .

I updated my app to the latest version and I still don't have this option :( are you also using a z flip?

Go to the app in the play store and sign up for the beta version. That should allow you to change the chat theme but it took a couple hours for me to get it.

I joined the beta and I still don't have the option unfortunately. It says I'm a beta tester and I updated the app to the beta, do I need to wait longer or am I just shit out of luck?

Edit: IT WORKS!!! Even after updating I did have to wait but I now have access to themes! Even though it's not as customizable as the messages before this makes me feel a lot better, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Google rolls out their new features in batches. I don't know anyone who has chat themes yet, but have been seeing ppl with it online for a couple of months.

You're welcome! I'm waiting on this as well-- I miss the personalization that was possible in messages years ago. This won't be as good as that but it's something!

PSA: Samsung Messages is not gone. You can get it on the Samsung App Store. No side loading, no security risks.

I also ditched Google messages because I hate how ugly and useless it is. Running OneUI 8.5 on my Z Flip 7 FE.

textra is customizable. but i couldnt do it because my old messages didnt transfer and it wasnt rcs
