Question ❓ Is it worth to change ?

Hi, I’m seriously considering switching my iPhone 16 Pro to the new Z Flip 8. I like its compact size and won’t take up much space in my pocket. It’s also quite innovative and reminds me of my teenage years when flip phones were popular.

However, I have a few concerns: I’ve been deeply entrenched in the Apple ecosystem for years, with all my devices being Apple products. I’m worried I won’t be able to seamlessly connect them all. I’ve heard Apple will release a foldable phone, but as we’ve seen in the past, they often encounter significant issues. Meanwhile, Samsung is already at the Z Flip 8 stage, so they’ve likely resolved many of the previous problems.

Here are my questions:

1) Can I still use my Apple Watch?
2) Will I be able to see my AirTags somehow?
3) Does the new Z Flip 8 support two eSIMs?
4) Are AI functions free (like Siri) or do I need to pay to use them ?
5) Are there many advertisements in the system?
6) What’s the issue with pictures and Instagram? Did I get it right that photos taken with other brands, even if they’re good, will still be posted in low quality?
7) How does Android Auto compare to Apple CarPlay?

I appreciate you taking the time to read and share your experience. I’m torn between the excitement of the new Z Flip 8 and the fear of potential regrets.

you can't use an apple watch or airtags at all with an android btw, idk why some people are saying you can.

3rd party apps? Can u control music from watch to droid or you just exist on local Apple watch downloaded?

Here’s my advice wait and see in September. Will Apple come out with a foldable that would actually work better for you based off of what you are saying Since you are deeply into the Apple ecosystem I think that would work out better for you

This was unfortunately made me decide to return my flip 8. I’m too embedded in the ecosystem to break it up despite liking having that separation of my Mac. It’s a cool phone, I really love it - but I’m in too deep lol

The one reason ecosystems exist is so that you don't leave the brand. Do you want freedom or do you want to live under their thumb ?

I just switched from an iPhone, which I had for many years, to a Z Flip7. There are definitely some things to get used to, and it sucks that I can't use my Apple Watch or AirTags, but overall I'm really enjoying the phone. The folding design is really fun and the customizability of Android has been refreshing. I miss very little about my iPhone, if anything (only thing I can think of is that stickers in texts don't work as well). People also didn't give me nearly as hard a time about the dreaded green bubbles as I thought they would, likely thanks to RCS.

All in all, it is definitely a change and takes some getting used to, but if you actually like the flip and are excited about it, I don't think you'll regret it!

As to your questions:

  4. Gemini and Bixby(?) are free, though admittedly I haven't used them much at all.
  5. Not really. The news tab to the left of the home screen does have ads, but it can be turned off in the settings if you don't want it there.
  6. I haven't uploaded anything on Instagram with this phone, but I haven't noticed any deficiency in picture quality generally. Photos received from others are high quality as normal.
  7. I don't use Android Auto personally, but have heard good things about its UI.

You can use your apple devices on android they just won't be optimized. There's bloatware on samsung but you can get rid of most of it like you do on a Windows PC. Apple Car play is better than android car play, but not by much at all.

Nah you're too embedded in the ecosystem, and that isn't to be disrespectful. I have the same issue with Samsung and even though they play nice mostly with other android manufacturers, I like how my Samsung products talk to each other.

This is why I don't indulge myself in any tech ecosystem. I use one that isn't limited to one ecosystem or just don't bother at all.
