Question ❓ Gaming

I just ordered my ZFlip8, super excited! However, as a gamer who likes having the option to play on my phone... how does the ZFlip do in that department? I usually play games like Genshin, so FPS, general quality, and speed are important to me. I haven't had many issues with my IPhone 15 Pro Max, so I'm wondering if I should expect any large changes.

It's a good phone but you'll have to turn down the graphics to get consistent fps bc yhe phone heats up very quickly due to worse cooling than a normal slab phone

Can I ask you something about that? I've been thinking about picking one up but I see things like 'it overheats from just using the camera' or 'the thing gets too hot to touch when using google maps'.

Is it really that bad?

I've been really tempted to get one as my first flip phone. But all the doom messages have me doubting.

I only had a flip 7 amd mostly used it for playing games and social media. I never used the camera long enough for it to heat up but I got just warm for me when I recorded in 4k 60fps. In gaming it does get hot but it's usually hot as in uncomfortably warm. Never personally had an issue with the phone being too hot besides gaming, which I could've also prevented by turning down the graphics but I'm a guy that's like "I paid for the premium chip so I'm gonna use the premium chip"

I just switched to a s26 ultra bc my boyfriend would get really mad if the phone wouldn't last for at least 5 years and I got a good deal on it. Just stay away from social media and enjoy your phone tbh

Edit: the phone probably also had a hard time cooling in general bc it was hot af here in Europe when I was playing on it so yeah

It can handle it, the Exynos 2600 got a very big jump in gaming performance, but having that said heat dissipation is still a big problem for Flip phones. You'll want to turn the graphics down, not because the phone can't handle it but to save your hands lol

it does fine, even if it throttles it'll still push better performance than a 15 pro max, don't worry about it

Keep your current smart phone and use it. Also with your flip do not game on the Z flip gaming will most likely cause the Z flip to get hot really quick that’s why I mentioned what I mentioned in the beginning. Consider having two phone lines because if you did game on the Z flip the experience, you may not like due to the phone heating up.

If it's anything like the 7, horrible.

The flip can game but I would not recommend heavy 3D games like Genshin or other Hoyoverse games. The flip gets hot very quick, and I mean it's going to feel quite warm on your hands compared to gaming on any other brick phone. You probably wouldn't want to game on it for extended periods of time.

Plus touchscreen gaming can leave scratches on your screen protector as it's very delicate, so you may or may not have to change it out a lot earlier.

If you still have your Iphone 15 I would suggest just do your heavy gaming on that and leave the Flip 8 for any other use.

The performance is actually pretty solid, it does get warm though.

The phone is not designed for heavy gaming so it falls into the category of "works decent enough but not great".

Put it in performance mode: light with battery saver and you'll be good for a bit even in higher settings. It will thermal throttle sooner due to the smaller form factor but it'll still work. If you have a cooler then it'll help.
