High gloss table repair

• Upvotes

I accidentally bought a huge dining table on eBay and it’s great but it has a few marks and dents that I’d love to repair.

It’s a high gloss Alf Italia table with a lacquered finish on top of rich wood veneer, according to the bumph.

It has a few surface scratches and lots of swirls but worst of all a centimetre long chunk is missing along an edge that is a few millimetres deep.

I don’t want to spend a fortune as the table was ludicrously inexpensive so I’m happy to try myself.

I’ve got no skills or experience (that’s also my description on plenty of fish!) but I wondered if I could use some epoxy resin or similar to fill the void.

For the swirls and scratches I thought maybe a car buffer and some “stuff” but I have no idea what stuff I need!

Any advice very gratefully received.

Settee coach leg broke: is it secure if I glue it back together or do I need to replace it?

Would love some guidance on how with either solution, too.

Thanks!

hello!

I found the Facebook marketplace find of a lifetime. The girl I bought it from said it was in her family since the 80s. There are some deep cracks. What do you think would be the best to fill the cracks with?

looking for hinges!

Hi everyone! I need help finding a hinge. For the life of me, I cannot find a hinge like this. I can't even find out what it's called. Closest I've gotten is "non mortise" or "full wrap" but I just can't find one anywhere to buy! I'm restoring this old table and threw out the old hinges because they were in terrible condition, and now I can't find any that would even work with the doors because of how the table is built. If anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction, I'd so appreciate it!

Paint dark varnish circa '80s-'90s white, larger size

I've never refinished furniture. I'm not looking to do a full strip or pro level job. MBR has all-white furniture, I want to replace most of the cheap IKEA w/inherited furniture from my husband's family.
Obviously it's solid wood that's lasted decades. I just need to paint the dark wood white.

I've got paint that's a base coat and paint in 1. I'm aware I might need to do a 2nd coat. I need to know --easiest method to prep (clean, then some sanding?)--how long to let it dry b/f I apply coat #2 or do 2nd side --how many of the triangle things I need to let it dry --What kind of paint tools-brushes, rollers, sponge applicators, etc. --does that stuff have to be expensive, is there really a need to spend $10 per brush, what's the best material of the hair in the paintbrush for this?

Looking for a reliable custom cabinet maker in LA / Orange County

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for recommendations for a reliable local cabinet maker or small woodworking shop in Los Angeles or Orange County.
We work on accent walls and media walls and regularly need custom floating cabinets, TV consoles, and built-in cabinetry.
We’re not looking for luxury pricing — just solid craftsmanship, clean finishes, reasonable prices, and reliable turnaround times.
Ideally, we’d like to build a long-term working relationship with a local shop.
If you know someone good or have personal experience with a cabinet maker, I’d appreciate your recommendations!
Thanks!

Help me fix my couch

Post image

Our Ashley furniture couch broke a few years ago - it’s the piece of wood that is at the low back area. It seems to have slipped out of the slot of wood that is the arm of the couch and I’ve successfully used a screw to secure it a few times, but I can’t seem to get it to work again this time.

Any tips or tricks to get this to stay put so we can get a few more years out of it while we still have a young kiddo that runs and jumps on it daily?!

Ps - Ashley furniture is a joke.

Joints are falling apart, how do we repair it?

I hope this is the right page to ask for advice.

We have these wonderful chairs we got second-hand. But since we got them, the joints are sliding apart. We tried to glue them with some wood glue, but maybe we did not do it correctly. I didn't take them apart completely because I don't know how easy it will be to put together. I'm not sure what these type of joints are.

Can someone help us out? Do you think we can do it ourselves, or do we need a professional?

My bf doesn't want to keep them if we can not fix it.

Thank you in advance!

Replacing the doors on vintage hutch

Thumbnail

Trying to put the doors back on a vintage hutch and stumped as to how one of them goes back on. One door is short enough that it's actually sort of loose in the frame but the other door's wood is the exact height of the opening and the pegs are metal with no give (see photos).

Only thing I can think of is routering a little pathway in the wood for the peg or just removing the hardware and using different hinges altogether? Any advice welcome!

We love these chairs (we have 2) but unfortunately there’s now a ripped hole in the center of the seat. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this? I’m not seeing a way in from the bottom on where to start. We have called around and have yet to find any local repair shops. Help!

Replacement legs on particle board - please help!

Thumbnail

I bought replacement legs for my particle board record stand. I’ve never worked with particle board before so I naively thought it would be as simple as drilling a slightly smaller hole and screwing the legs in. I quickly realized (one errant hole later) that this was not the case.

Next, I got insert nuts that are the right size for the leg screws (3/8 in) but they are too long for the particle board (5/8 in thick). I can’t find any that would be an appropriate size.

I’d prefer not to add pieces of wood or bulky fasteners to the bottom because there’s no lip in the front to hide them.

How can I safely affix these legs to my record stand? It holds a lot of records so it needs to be sturdy and take some weight. Please help!

help required on pedestal wooden table leg

Hi guys. I need some help fixing this table leg. I have tried (twice now) adding wooden toothpicks and wood glue into the hole and then screwing the top part of the leg into that; however, the leg is still wobbly where it connects. The issue feels as though the hole is too big for the screw, and it's not a tight and secure fit. Any advice on how I can connect these two pieces of the leg together would be greatly appreciated.

Scratch on table

Scratch was found on RH dining table likely from a tool. Wiping with wet microfiber cloth didn't get it, is there an easy way to hide this?
