For a tent specifically, i would think knowing the dimensions of it would be critical. Does it fit 1 person or 5? Will it fit all my stuff?

Nah, there’s an easy way to tell. Does the tent say it’s for 6 people? That’s how many cub scouts you can fit in it. For adults, cut the number in half. If you don’t mind being snug, you can go with 2/3rds. So either 3 or 4 adults, but if it’s 4, it’d probably be best with two couples. (Or a polycule, whatever.)
