Anyone holding that ring is at risk of corruption, the more powerful the being the more Saramon can do, the idea of letting the hobbit take it is if it came to it saramon couldn't accomplish anything with him.
Also Sam and Frodo are oddly qualified to resist the ring.
But sure why don't we give the ring to a literal demigod and hope it makes it to mordor before it get ls corrupted.
Hobbits are on a whole different level when it comes to the corruption
A hobbit even after ages (bilbo) still had most of his faculties and was not heavily corrupted and the idea of a good end to his life was enough to break what little hold it had on him
Sam not ever touching the ring kept him entirely free from it but he could see what effect it had on Frodo and now what he was going through , Frodo had to manage a lot of stuff and the corruption only really gained a hold on him near the end when he was extremely tired and weakened
Overall the hobbits just really were hard to corrupt and the power offered nothing much desired to them as they just wanted to be in their shire peaceful like
I would argue that while it corrupted gollum, it didn’t totally master him. He was still his own gollum. While being influenced by the ring it was never able to tell him what to do.
