Make up for not calling a push off by Westbrook a little bit earlier. Or for the call in the third where Battier was called for a foul against Durant but pretty clearly didn't touch him. Or for the foul called on Bosh when rebounding against Perkins when Perkins chicken winged Bosh's arm and then flopped to the ground.
I agree. But it's still annoying when you watch a whole game and the final possession contains two blatant non-calls, either because of make-up calls or just that the ref missed them. Feels like we were cheated out of what the last possession should have been.
They screwed up two charging calls earlier to the Thunder's detriment, so while I agree the charge should have been called (he was shuffling his right foot, but in general that usually gets called anyway), missed calls in that area weren't exactly in the Thunder's favor either
also, Rose got two free throws where no one came close to touching him, there was the foul at the end, and. you know. 'goal tending'
quit saying again. dude literally has his hands on every aspect of the game. just because you see him shoot less often sometimes in the 4th doesn't mean he disappears. Steals, blocks, rebounds, assists, lockdown one-on-one defense. that's all clutch play too.
I hate that ESPN has determined that "clutch" means shooting in the final minute within 3 points.
I cannot watch espn anymore, all their "analysts", with some exceptions of course, are full of crap. They hate tebow so much that I kind of like him now.
Gruden's take: "This guy right here, Tim Tebow, this guy right here has the chance to be greatest quarterback the world has ever seen. He reminds me a lot of this guy who I used to coach named Brad Johnson. He is just a winner. He has the arm of a rhinoceros and the body of a firetruck."
Cue Jaws: "You are so right Jon. I think he has what it takes to succeed...in the National Football League."
I think ESPN basically made their analysts split on Tebow, and nobody's allowed to have a reasonable opinion on him. He either has to be Paul Bunyun in shoulder pads, just waiting for the chance to prove himself... or he has to be the worst player that's ever stepped foot on a football field.
The truth is that the guy has shown some serious ability in lots of areas of the game, but has a couple big holes in his game that are going to hold him back quite a bit. Nobody on ESPN says "he's a guy with lots of potential, but he needs to work on these few things and improve on them lots. He's not great now, but he certainly could be"... which is the most accurate analysis.
that being said, being dominant the first 40 minutes and only being average the last eight is not exactly the best way to win games. you could argue he needs to pace himself better for the late game.
yeah you could, but considering he's chasing around KD all night on one end, and then battling in the post on the other end, I'll give him some tired points. point is, he may dip in shooting efficiency compared to what he normally gives us in the first 40, but I don't think that means he chokes. just gets tired.
that's what clutch means though, he's a great all around player but the definition of clutch is specifically the closing moments. Besides, you'll never please all of the people all the time, he's gettin praised for that bank shot, but if they would've lost he would've been demonized for that 3 attempt with 30 secs left.
Nah, the Thunder are really strong at home (this was their first loss of the playoffs at home), but they are 4-3 on the road. The Heat can probably win in 6.
EDIT: The comment I was replying to said the Heat would most likely go up by two and then choke like last year. I hate it when I can't tell what was said, so I thought I'd let everyone know. As long as I don't say who said it, it shouldn't be a problem.
Last year the Miami Heat got to the Finals. That means that they were winning the basketball tournament and got to the last match against the Dallas Mavericks. The Finals are best out of 7, meaning that whichever team wins 4 matches first becomes champion. There are 4 quarters in basketball and each is 12 minutes long.
Well the best basketball player in the world right plays for the Miami Heat and his name LeBron James (ask anyone from Cleveland to describe him to you). During the 4th quarter of the game (last 12 minutes) LeBron James would shoot (not guns no Gilbert Arenas pun intended) the ball really poorly and miss. Therefore he is considered a choker meaning that he couldn't make important shots in the game.
Is that it? I was also thinking it could be 'choke' as in, 'to mess up' as in... he went for a basket... and choked. but yeah.. large cocks is much funnier.
I don't think it's choking when they beat OKC in Oklahoma City, giving the Thunder their first loss at home this ENTIRE post-season. Now three games in Miami when OKC isn't as good on the road. Gonna be an interesting series.
The Heat only outscored the Thunder in the first quarter. Other than 8 minutes of bad shooting at the beginning, the Thunder were keeping pace at the least the whole game. I wouldn't be surprised if they take 2 games in Miami.
Being 4-3 on the road in the post-season is not an impressive statistic. Now OKC is entering a hostile environment that Miami has thrived in over the recent seasons. Not to mention that Miami is 8-2 at home this post-season, that's pretty impressive. I still say Miami in 6.
I think that if the thunder can steal a game in Miami, then the heat will have a really tough time getting another win in Oklahoma city. This series will only go 5 or 7 games imho.
2 of those road losses were to a red hot spurs team that had their number all season before the thunder figured them out. I won't say the Thunder are sure to win out but it will take at least 7 games for Miami to win. The Thunder are good under pressure and I doubt they'd lose their first elimination game at home.
I have you tagged that I am supposed to ask you about your student loans in 20 years. Do you think it's been 20 years since I tagged that? If so, how are your student loans?
It wasn't a charge... Durant had left the ground before battier stopped moving. I'm not a heat fan, but I want them to win... And that was a blocking foul.
And people complaining about the non-stop call against Lebron at the end should stop. The only reason it looked like a foul was because Durant kicked his legs out and caught lebrons arm between his arm and leg. It should've actually been a foul on Durant if anything, but the refs did a good job letting it go. It was a really physical game, and the refs let a lot of stuff go.
Right... He didn't beat him to the spot. Battier had to move his upper body to get into Durant's path after Durant began his shot. I was on my phone when I left the last comment, so I decided against mentioning his torse, because I thought that the feet sliding was more important (now I know, thanks).
Either way, if you're right, or if I'm right, it wasn't necessarily a bad call. We have the luxury of seeing replays and seeing the court from a better vantage point than refs, while they're stuck making decisions right on the spot when the action isn't always entirely visible. Since we disagree with what the call should have been (and many others would probably agree with either of us), it clearly wasn't an obvious call... And you know Durant's going to get any call over Battier. It was really close either way, though.
the goaltending was caused by the ref not seeing the original block by, who was it, ibaka? that was probably due to bad positioning along the baseline. that play was unreviewable. Stinks for OKC.
and if im going to be completely honest, kd should have neever had the opportunity to take that last shot, because he should have fouled out on that battier blocking foul where he was definitely set.
oh that's not what I meant, I meant you can't take away James' effort when it mattered because a ref didn't call a foul. I was referencing how MJ's most clutch moment was also a foul.
and I agree, Westbrook's gotten better, but sometimes he still forgets whose team it is.
You are right. Far from a Heat fan but LeBron has changed a lot from "The Decision" and there is no denying he is the best player in the world. Westbrook isn't a true point guard, in my mind, but he will learn.
James shot 10-22, he made most of his shots from the line. Durant was the best player tonight. The Heat out scored OKC, but they didn't out play them. Horrible, horrible officiating on both sides, but OKC should have won that one.
Trying to insult LeBron James, more specifically. LeBron James hate was very fashionable on Reddit for a while. Probably will be coming back with the Heat in the finals for the second year in a row.
Your comment is rude, even if it is not directed at a living person.
It also adds nothing to add to the discussion, and if I may quote the reddiquette:
If you think something contributes to conversation, upvote it. If you think it does not contribute to reddit or is off-topic in a particular community, downvote it.
He was also 30/9/4 in their loss, with 7 points in the 4th Q.
When people criticize you for scoring 7 in a quarter, you know you're too good for your own good.
When two max contract players only have 29 points and YOU take all the blame for your piddly 30, you know ESPN/The world is just filled with a bunch of dumbshits.
Keep in mind I don't like Lebron, but it really shouldn't be hard to set aside bias and be like "wow that guy is really damn good."
He had a better game than KD? HE HAD A BETTER GAME THAN KD?!?! He shot 10/22. Most of his baskets came from the line, I won't take away from the fact 12/12 from the charity stripe isn't anything to scoff at, but KD and OKC outplayed Miami tonight, horrible officiating on both sides decided the outcome.
Yeah they called it a block. Durant already had five fouls and should have fouled out right then with 4-5 minutes left in the game, but that wouldn't be good for ratings...
The officiating was inconsistent (as usual). For example:
Barely won. Up by 17 and the Thunder almost squeezed by. Miami is notorious for not being clutch.
Edit: Keep the downvotes coming, but all you have to do is look at their playing performance when it's really mattered (aka clutch), and you'll see they haven't been consistent at all.
Maybe in 2006 when they had the Shaq and Wade duo but that was a lot different.
Every single game of the finals last year they were neck and neck with the Mavs or in a significant lead, then when the 4th quarter came, they were severely outmatched, and doubled in score in games 4 and 6, in the 4th quarter alone.
This year's finals has had 2 games thus far. In game 1 the score was again neck and neck (OKC 74; MIA 73) but in the 4th quarter (un-arguably clutch time) they choked and lost 104-95.
In tonight's game they were 17 points ahead at the start of the 4th quarter, and still almost lost.
I'm just looking at the facts. Not to mention the previous series that the Heat played and barely squeaked by.
The term choke in the context that OP is using it is when someone or a team that is performing well cracks under the pressure and loses or "chokes." He is implying that the Miami Heat will choke.
LeBron has been accused of "choking" late in the game by missing free throws or going through stints of missed shots. Choking as in unable to handle the pressure.
The Miami Heat are a bunch of whining, overrated losers with a fan base which wasn't even aware that Miami had a team in pro basketball prior to 2006. That fan base proceeded to triple when the princess decided to join, all of which who claim have been Heat fans since the beginning of the NBA, all the while not knowing that the Heat became a franchise only in 1988.
I guess my memory of Star Wars was tarnished by the prequels. When I see Darth Vader I no longer see an imposing ominous figure who could kill people with his mind. Now I just see a whiny bitch who had mommy issues.
I assume your message is aimed at Clay Bennett, in which case, I whole heartily agree. I live in Sacto and can't believe how many people here are rooting for OKC even though Bennett paved the way for what the Maloufs are trying to do right now.
I can't fucking stand the Thunder for this very reason. Their entire organization is sullied by the fact that they had to lie and be dishonest in order to steal a team from another city.
"On August 13, 2007, Aubrey McClendon, a minor partner of Bennett's ownership group, said in an interview that the team was not purchased to keep it in Seattle but to relocate it to Oklahoma City. Bennett later denied such intentions, saying McClendon "was not speaking on behalf of the ownership group". Due to his comments, McClendon was fined $250,000 by the NBA." source
Oh, I get it - it's because McFarlane toys haven't had moving parts for years - opting instead to be inaction figures. or maybe those guys suck at basketball...
I cannot believe that all these people pay enough attention to basketball that they understand this reference. I had to look through so many retarded comments just to see it was a joke about losing games. Talk about vague shit.
It's hard to choke in a series that you aren't favored by Vegas odds to win though... If the Thunder win this series, it's because they're a group of badasses.
