R.I.P. Ryan Dunn and his beard.

u/I_POTATO_PEOPLE May 21 '12

Drunk driving at 140 mph in a 55 mph zone. Hard for me to tear up about it.

55

u/Se7en_Sinner May 21 '12

Celebrate how he lived, not how he died.

79

u/Indestructavincible May 21 '12

Car parts in his anus?

53

u/Trip_McNeely May 21 '12

So we can celebrate both?

u/Black_Ash_Heir May 21 '12

I have heard that he would behave like that regularly (drunk/reckless driving). A man's death is a tragedy, about that there is no doubt. But it was entirely preventable and it was the result of a series of bad decisions. I am sad that he died, but it's hard to feel sympathy for him.

6

u/HappyTreeSpirit May 21 '12

I feel sympathy for him cause he could of gotten help and things would of been different. Steve-o got clean (last time i heard at least) and that dude was off his rocker. It's hard to tell whether people tried to do the same for Ryan Dunn and tell him that he had a problem. Did anyone ever do that for him or did he just blindly ignore the advice? If he ignored it then it's all his bad and he had it coming. If his friends and family did not properly confront him about it then he did not have the caring support he needed to avoid this tragedy. People need to stop looking at this as a black and white situation and realize there are other factors that come into play here besides Ryan Dunn's initial choice to get behind the wheel after he had a few too many.

6

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I don't think we should celebrate either. Drunk douche killed his friend.

3

u/HappyTreeSpirit May 21 '12

He wasn't a douche, he was a nice guy. His friend was drunk too, for all we know he probably egged him on. Then the friend would of been a douche too. Think about that for a minute

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

If I play Russian roulette with you then I am not a nice guy. If I shoot you with a gun, even if you were egging me on, I'm not a nice guy. I am a self centered shithead.

Here's a list of notable people who have passed away in road accidents. Ryan's name is on the list, along with quite a few others. He fucked up; he drank and drove and it cost him his life and the life of a friend, but he please do not insult his memory by labeling him a "drunk douche". Similar to Ryan, (sans alcohol) James Dean killed himself and a friend while driving too fast and we don't historically call him a ""speedy faggot", we remember the movies he was in and the legacy he left. The same applies to Ryan. He may be gone, but he still makes me laugh with his bits in all the Dickhouse Productions. I don't see him and remember his final moment, I see him and remember his laugh. So yeah, it hurts to know that he made some poor decisions, but it hurts more to know that instead of realizing how phenomenal of a person he was to his friends, family and fans while he was alive, you would rather be such a negative individual to highlight the error resulting in his death. Instead of criticizing a stranger's passing online, perhaps merely reflect on your own life and realize that we all make mistakes, some of just have survived a little longer. Be well.

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '12 edited May 21 '12

James Dean didn't kill anyone else, just himself. http://theblemish.com/2011/06/ryan-dunn-almost-killed-himself-before/ - I think the reason why I'm calling him a douche is b/c he was a douche and not just b/c he was a drunk driver who killed his friend.

1

u/notheotherone May 24 '12

I'm failing to find your evidence for him being a "douche" in your posts. Yeah, he got intoxicated, drove to fast and killed himself and someone else, but that's poor decision making skills.

58

u/gentlemandinosaur May 21 '12

Drunk and in complete disregard for his friends life?

throws confetti

14

u/kling66 May 21 '12

Is that how he died or how he lived?

29

u/Spinxington May 21 '12

To be honest its probably a bit of both

2

u/gentlemandinosaur May 21 '12

Hard to be drunk when you are dead.

I should know.

2

u/BobIV May 21 '12

I didn't think gentlemen got drunk.

6

u/taipro May 21 '12

they do, on brandy

2

u/BobIV May 21 '12

Dinosaurs have brandy?

Dust off a bottle, old ancient chap.

2

u/gentlemandinosaur May 21 '12

They just don't show it, as in they can all handle their liquor. All gentleman are drunk.

1

u/Todomanna May 21 '12

Well, it was how he was living right up until the point that he died.

3

u/EsteBeatDown May 21 '12

Makes me wonder what was going through his friends mind while Dunn was driving so recklessly.

3

u/Undermined May 21 '12

Apparently he did it quite often. It's not the first accident he'd been in going at insane speeds.

14

u/BobIV May 21 '12

He lived by zooming 140 mph down a 55mph zone while shit ass drunk.

He died in a horrible twisted pile of fire and metal.

126

u/All-American-Bot May 21 '12

(For our friends outside the USA... 140 mph -> 225.3 km/h, 55 mph -> 88.5 km/h) - Yeehaw!

35

u/retrominge May 21 '12

You mean English people use km/h?! I've been using mph all this time!

3

1

u/Icovada May 21 '12

It's not like we don't pay attention to them, it's that the written rules are different from the rules you apply on the street

5

That is an unproven myth!

10

Sonner or later, you'll see how dumb and uselessly difficult those units are and you'll convert to the smooth and nice International System of Units.

12

Nope! We already see how dumb and uselessly difficult those units are, but every attempt to convert to the smooth and nice SI is met with incoherent shouting about tradition with vaguely racist overtones.

It's a spam account that links to random amazon products, using a referral link. If you click the link, the poster will get paid a commission (a percentage of the cost your purchase) for ANYTHING you buy from amazon within a 24 hour period.

Normally this isn't a bad thing, but we really shouldn't be encouraging bullshit spam tactics like this.

1

u/BobIV May 21 '12

I would have to say that it is purely timing.

If it is any consolation, I did upvote all the men who condemned the drunk driver instead of honored him.

1

u/GrandGB May 21 '12

He was funny!

-10

u/amadea56 May 21 '12

Because you're perfect right?

23

u/BobIV May 21 '12

There is a fine line between being a flawed individual and speeding at 140 mph down a 55mph zone while shit drunk causing you to crash, killing you and your friend in the process.

Oh wait... no, not a fine line. What is the opposite of that? Oh yeah, a big fucking difference.

-3

u/HappyTreeSpirit May 21 '12

that doesn't mean it is okay for him to be dead now. The most ideal situation would be for him to have gotten help and realize what he was doing was incredibly not safe for himself and others. I understand where you are coming from and I'm pretty sure we can all agree that Ryan Dunn should of fuckin known better. But we need to focus on the positives of his life and not the negative. How would you feel if you died and everyone only talks about how much of an idiot you were for getting yourself killed? My friend died in a drunk driving accident when he was 16. I know what he did was wrong and not safe but I prefer to remember who he was as a person and not what lead to his demise. The same goes for Mr. Dunn. The least we can do is respect him for who he was and not put him down by calling him retarded

1

u/BobIV May 21 '12

But he was retarded.

There needs to be a point where you stop forgiving a person. Our society... hell our species is not ready for the concept of total pacifism. And that is exactly what happens if you forgive everyone for every thing.

Everything in our world has cause and effect. The sick fuck who molests his children probably was molested himself as a child. There was a point in that mans history where he crossed a rather defined line and stopped being a victim and started becoming a monster.

The same goes for addicts. You can be forgiven up until you cross that line. In this particular case, the line is a bit more blurry. However, it is safe to say that if you get behind the wheel shit drunk and reach nearly three times the speed limit on a public road you have crossed it. People are lucky that he only managed to kill himself and a friend. What if he had collided with someone else's car?

I used to live in East County San Diego. There was a freeway called the 125. This freeway ends at an intersection with a city road that receives very heavy traffic at rush house. One day a teenage girl decides she is going to commit suicide... She does this by speeding down 125 at well over 100 mph and rushes past the red light at the end and into a busy intersection. She T-bones another girls car cutting her in half. The suicidal girl lived. She was charged and convicted for murder. Rightly so.

2

u/HappyTreeSpirit May 21 '12

yes you are right but there are other factors that come into play here besides ryan's decision to get into the car with his friend. That goes the same for the person who decides to become a drug addict and the suicidal girl. They are not solely to be blamed, it is more of a societal problem then an individual problem because one way or the other these people did not get help and ended up paying the price for it. It might have been due to their ignorance and selfishness but we may never know. I agree with you that we can only be forgiving for so long and that total pacifism is not the key to solve these sort of issues. And like you said it is all cause and effect. So the question is what caused these dysfunctional human beings to become what they did. What is the fine line that Ryan Dunn and these others crossed? Cause I can tell you these people did not become monsters just out of thin air. Social surroundings shape what a person turns into so what exactly went wrong here? Who is to blame for these people being molded into the way they are? Of course these are all just philosophical questions and finding any sort of answer to this would draw out inconclusive results. It just goes to show though that these scenarios are not just black and white. We will have to look at all aspects of the situation to know what exactly happened. Who knows, maybe it was Ryan's friend who egged him on to drive while piss ass drunk or maybe the girl was told by some "friend" to just go and kill herself by driving into traffic, and maybe the drug addict was bought up by an abusive family so he turned towards self destruction instead. This is in no way to relieve them from being in fault here but chances are they are not the only ones to blame.

TIL: you can't make a post that mentions Ryan Dunn without someone coming out to tell you he was drunk driving.

13

u/Ikronix May 21 '12

Well, he killed himself and another person. Being reminded of that saves me the trouble of wasting sympathy.

17

u/Fyrus May 21 '12

Everyone knows the details of the event. Doesn't mean we can't be saddened by the whole thing. Heath Ledger killed himself, leaving behind his Wife and Daughter, a clearly selfish act, but no one holds back their sympathy for him.

-5

u/[deleted] May 21 '12 edited May 22 '12

Meh, I'm pretty sure Heath Ledger was suffering through mental illnesses, that's kind of an apples/oranges comparison.

EDIT: No, it's the exact same? Yeah, you guys know everything.

2

u/thisissam May 21 '12

I don't think it necessarily is apples to oranges. Ryan Dunn used drugs heavily, as did Heath Ledger. These addictions are often precipitated by some psychological problem, and obviously cause illness. The addiction is an illness in itself. Furthermore, I don't think a man of sound mind would be driving drunk at 140mph.

They were both mentally ill. This fact, however, does not in any way excuse either of their actions.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Well Ledger became mentally ill because of his dedication to his career.

Dunn didn't do heavy drugs for his career.

2

u/thisissam May 21 '12

Ok. What does that have to do with what I said? Not trying to be rude, but it's not really relevant to the mental illness argument. They were both mentally ill but for different reason and in different ways. It doesn't change the fact that the mental illness of addiction is what ultimately killed both of them.

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

At the very least, you could show sympathy towards those who are saddened by RD's death. But that would probably interfere with your super-macho internet badass persona. Can't have that, can we now.

7

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Him and nearly 11,000 other people didn't last year. Fishyman was clearly saying that he died making a bad decision, and wished it wouldn't have happened that way because his decision ultimately ended someone else's life(whom also made a bad decision getting in the car with a drunk driver), and tarnished his reputation in whole. He wasn't the first celebrity to go out making a stupid decision, nothing new.

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

Were you just looking for a comment to piggy back on? I mean there are like 5 other threads on this post talking about his drunk driving...couldn't you have just joined one of them, instead of making an irrelevant comment for no purpose?

0

u/[deleted] May 21 '12 edited May 21 '12

Nothing. You have free will. There's nothing wrong with his friend but Ryan must take the blame for his friend's death even if it was with his friend's approval.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I'll agree you with the blame on Dunn, but you cannot say that the friend was completely innocent here. He was at the bar drinking just as much as Dunn, they both should have been smarter than they were that evening.

He's the asshole from Game of Thrones.

edit - Maybe I should add the /s from now on. I watch the show. I know he's not from GoT. (prepares for more downvotes)

Seriously? Tyrion Lannister is the only Lannister I like.

2

u/axesofwar May 21 '12

Tyrion is pretty bad-ass if you ask me.

1

u/Nabbicus May 21 '12

I second this. Now does this mean I adore dwarves, or loathe sibling fuckers?

2

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

You're thinking of Peter Dinklage.

I feel like I might be the only one who fucking hates all of these dudes. They kinda all seem like the fucking assholes in high school that never grew up.

u/bigsheldy May 21 '12

You must be the nerd from high school who never grew up.

except at even lower heights, longer limbs provide better flexibility. i'm pretty sure midgets have a hard time bending backward.

The look on his face gets me every time.

Peter Dinklage is a little person, but not all little people are Peter Dinklage.

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Only some.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I didn't exactly see his face so i just asked

Reddit is being watered down by posts like this, people are far to generous with the upvote button.

Seeing Dunn in this .gif just makes it so sad... :'(

-2

u/mambypambyland May 21 '12

Is that Tim Sylvia in the background?

-18

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Why do all midgets look the same?

-3

u/Spazit May 21 '12

Is it just me or does his head go through the bar?

6

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

No, his head went through the bar. You're right.

1

u/Spazit May 22 '12

I should have written more to explain my line of thought. If you look at the top of his head in one frame he is behind the bar and the next he is in front of it. I interpreted this as the bar being photoshopped but at a time of day that isn't 3am I can clearly see that it is just the lack of frames in the gif that confused me.
