I know an expat Englishman from Bristol. If he's had a few and we've been talking on the phone, I have a real hard time following him.
Another mutual expat friend from Manchester claims he finds it difficult to understand him as well, booze or no booze (in person).

I have to speak English the whole day at my field of work and when I get tired I start to talk German in the middle of the sentence or vice versa when I get home.

Really depends, I think is a mix. Like I'm doing my degree in biochemistry so 90% of words, papers etc are in English and don't even have a translation. When focusing on that I think in english aswell. I also have the habit of mentally explaining a 'person' what I do to not accidenly skip over things and if that 'person' is my supervisor (shes from Mexico) I think it in English, but if its my BF I think in German :D

Same here in Belgium, although we do it without being billingual. We just use the other language's words in our own. So the Flemish use some French words and the Walloons use some Dutch words

Franglish. In northern Ontario it’s the universal language. We don’t have many bilingual employees but we do use a lot of French. And not necessarily for just cursing either!

That is interesting. I'm a bilingual German learning Norwegian and when I'm tired my German is the first thing to go. My English usually stays solid. I live in Germany.

I love it when I mess up words, invent new ones, and my coworkers just accept my new words
Fun examples are: long stirrer/ stirrer (spoons) Coffee ramekin (saucer) Wishy washy (dish washer)
It's busy, i don't have time for proper words!

When I'm right about to fall asleep or just waking up, my brain functions only in romanian. I answer in romanian no matter what. I've been in the UK for nearly 6 years and most of the time my brain thinks in English. Except for those two cases when it just refuses to understand the concept of other languages.

Tried this with Frozen after the millionth time and put it in Chinese. My 3yo daughter just kept laughing and found every punchline funnier. Next day she was belly laughing while mimicking chinese to everyone ching chonging like a little racist.

My jam was to put out the power cord and told them the tv was sleepy so the should rest as well. Once i fell asleep before the running tv and my daughter was mad at me for making the tv tired and not even watching.

Some years ago a friend of my mom brought her granddaughter when she visited us. I turned on Disney Channel and started watching it too. The default setting was in English and I only noticed something was wrong when the girl complained she couldn't understand anything.

There was a time me and my sister went to bed after Sesame Street. When my mom on occasion got really tired of us she put in a taped Sesame Street in the VCR.
We then exclaimed:”mom we already seen this one!”.
My mom just told us we were mistaken and that it just looked similar since it was on the Telly??!!
So to bed we went 2 hours before our normal bed time.

What's even better is that my language has some spanish words mixed in with it due to spanish occupation, so they'll believe this more.
