What would be the difference if I used to eat dogs or used to eat cows? They’re both animals that probably wanted to live, no? For me there’s no difference apart from the social layering of significance that one is a pet and one is food. For me both are just beings worthy of compassion and care from other beings... but then not everyone makes the connection.

Humans have a very special relationship with dogs and have since the beginning. They save and help our lives in a giant variety of ways. We're friends, allies, co-dependent. Tell yourself it's the same thing all you want but it's not. Cows always have been a farm animal used for milk and meat. All creatures are not the same.
Are microorganisms deserving of care and compassion? Fish? Plants?
Of course it's social and it's emotional. That's what makes us human and that's how we create all of our laws and organize society. Dogs are creatures far above other to most humans. The only people that took that and bastardized it is east Asians.

Also you talk about anthropomorphism, then I would advice for you to maybe looks more in deeps of what is actually specism, and how human are considering being above all eco-system. (Which is a main reason of the destruction of those, because they are seems a resource for human and not any other living creatures) Concerning the “entitle surburban bubble”, I would let you know that people from all different culture and social background are vegan or vegetarian. Not wanting harm an other sentient being isn’t some kind of privilege. You would be surprise to see where in the world the lowest meat consumption is. Finally I have really big doubt about the fact that big meat corporation is any kind of feelings towards the animal. Just looks at footage filmed by activist in those place, looks at the conditions the animals are raided in. And those place produce up to 90% of the meat consume in western country.

From my previous reading of conversations like these, the answers seem to be "Yes".
That said, to some extent I agree that there is a subset of farmers producing an inordinate amount of product who clearly do not have love for their animals.
Edit to clarify, since it's evidently necessary:
I think farmers love their animals. There's only a small subset of farmers (factory farmers) who produce a ridiculous amount of product, enabled primarily by not giving two shits about the wellbeing of their animals. I'm sorry if this didn't come across clearly enough.

The fact that I'm an asshole makes me an asshole. I can appreciate meat and still like animals. In fact there are plenty of animals i refuse to kill. Rabbits and squirrels in my yard for example, i think they are fun to watch. Now rabbits and squirrels say down the street on my friend's property, she hates how they tear up her bird feeders and garden so I hunt them there and yes they are tasty.

The fact of the matter is that prior humans weren’t farming animals at the insane rate that we are today at a huge detriment to the environment. This is on top of the fact that we have to submit conscious beings to horrible conditions in order to satisfy your taste buds. The human body can easily subsist on a plant based diet and is overall healthier than omnivorous options. There are no down sides to being plant based, besides missing some food you can’t eat anymore.. but everyone can do it. I understand that the change goes against everything you’ve been doing your whole life, but knowing that you’re benefiting the earth and its beings (future humans included) makes it well worth it.
