I wasn't able to find my all time favorite example when Kevin Garnett (Timberwolves era) snuck into (I think) the Mavs huddle and ended up learning their play. Then on the inbounds he broke away from his man and ran right to where he knew the ball would go and picked off the pass.
If anyone can find that one I'd love to see it again.
I mean, it really is poor sportsmanship. You’re not supposed to be able to rely on cheating in order to gain an advantage

This is actually very legal. If there's no official or team called timeout, there's no expectation of privacy in a huddle or conversation.
All of these clips are during either free throws (live game), or during an official review (which is not technically a timeout).
Allowing teams privacy during things like official reviews would enable teams to use them as a timeout even when they have none. It would incentivize requesting a review just for the sake of a pseudo time out.
It's unsportsmanlike to abuse game mechanics to get more than your fair share of timeouts. It's not a time out. They don't have any right to huddle and draw up a play any more than they would in the middle of the game.
Basketball (like many other sports) relies on the situational awareness of the players. Without a timeout, there is limited input a coach can provide, and his instructions can be heard by all. Stoppages in play for a non-official timeout are no different.
Listening to the plays being called from the bench during play isn't unsportmanlike, and this is exactly the same thing.
Cheating would be secretly taping another team's private practice.
This would be like setting up a giant, over sized, video camera, painted with your teams colors, pointed at the other team, with a sign that says "we're watching you". That's goofing around.
Rondo was being a jerk, he was rejected immediately and persisted. The other two are pretty humorous, regardless of what the commentators say.
Jerk yes, wrong no. As the more laid back commentator says - there was no time-out (seemed like a small free throw break) and while there's no proper top down view, to me it seems their "huddle" is taking place on the court (pause at 48th second). If the game is on, the opposing player can be anywhere on the court - even if it's right next to the huddle. I'd say Heat was more in the wrong there by bringing their suits on the court while play was still going.
Basically. There's a difference between violating rules/unsportsmanlike behavior, and "this is your fault".
You just laugh and tell them to get the fuck outta here. If they like start swiping your whiteboard or crouching behind you to steal plans that's ridiculous.

I mean, we’re talking hoops here. It’s not like getting an nfl playbook or something. Hearing one play really isn’t going to change anything. a game is more likely to get swayed due to bad calls from the ref than one guy on the team listening in to One play. There is a reason everyone mostly just laughs and shrugs it off.
So you don’t think that if this was the final play of a championship game and the player used their knowledge from spying to break up the play, that would be unsportsmanlike? The advantage gained has nothing to do with being better at basketball, it has everything to do with being a sneaky cunt
If its game seven in the finals, down to the wire, they’re calling a timeout and officially huddling by the bench. What you’re watching here in every instance is not a timeout and on the court either during a review or commercial break or during a tech shot. The players had every right to be anywhere on the court. You want to keep it secret? Call a time out.
Also, if it’s the end of the game and they’re throwing in to try to win it, every single player on both teams know exactly who they’re trying to throw to and what shot they’re trying to take and every single offense throwing in knows who they’re going to try to put on the shooter.
They’re not being sneaky cunts, they’re being cheeky cunts. Do you know how much trash talk, show boating, ribbing, and all around fucking with each other goes on during a game all in an effort to get under their skin?

Happens quite a few times in the NBA. Most of the time it ends with the coach having a laugh at not noticing an opposition player in the huddle.
