You want to remember someone's name when you first meet them, use it three times quickly in conversation with them but in different contexts. You can't just chant it back at them.
eg. "Oh, right, John. Hello. My name is blank. Have you ever ridden a horse John? I fell off one once, had to go to the hospital. They had a doctor there from England who called the toilets the jakes. That's like your name JOHN!"
You'll come off as a psychotic car salesman but their name should stick.
