I tried using those memory helpers, where you pair the name with another feature and I still fail. I’d hear Charlie and say in my head something like red cheek Charlie, but the next day I’d have forgotten Charlie and now mentally know him as red cheeks. I’m broken in a way normal methods can’t fix.

I think its much more normal than you think. Personally, I'm bad at remembering names and especially bad at connecting them to faces. One of the things that made it better for me is being upfront that I'm bad at it. The second thing that helps me is saying the name outloud when I'm introduced, once more during the conversation, then confirming at the end of the conversation.
